  Art Exhibition: Suzanne Treister
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-12-2025, 01:58 PM - Forum: News - Meeting - Events - No Replies

"From the prophetic early paintings of the 1980s to her groundbreaking digital works of the 1990s, the exhibition charts Treister’s evolution through key projects including those of her time-travelling alter ego Rosalind Brodsky, and the influential HEXEN 2.0 series, a Tarot deck and group of alchemical diagrams connecting cybernetics, surveillance, countercultural movements and internet histories. Her recent project, HEXEN 5.0 (2023-25) continues this trajectory, critically examining AI, the climate crisis, and quantum science."

  Video: The Crowning of Mary
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-12-2025, 01:54 PM - Forum: Alchemical symbolism and imagery - No Replies

" In the Rosarium philosophorum (1550), Mary’s coronation marks the final stage of the Great Work—the rubedo, when matter and spirit are perfected. Jung saw this image as the psyche’s journey to wholeness, the exaltation of the feminine, and a symbol of individuation."

New Voynich theory: a symbolic operator system?
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-12-2025, 01:52 PM - Forum: Alchemical symbolism and imagery - No Replies

"My main premise is that the Voynich is not a ciphered natural language or random nonsense. Instead, it functions as a symbolic operator system — a structured framework of actions and processes, encoded in both glyphs and imagery. Rather than treating the text as phonetic writing, I approach it as a grammar of symbolic functions (operators). This means the glyphs are not “letters” in the traditional sense, but instructions that align with alchemical, cosmological, and Hermetic tradition."

  Video: David Brafman on Alchemy
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-12-2025, 01:45 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

"Now recognized as the ancestor of modern chemistry, alchemy is a mysterious and often misunderstood blend of science, philosophy, and spirituality. Alchemists were notorious for making artificial gold, but their impact extended far beyond their desire for noble metals. David Brafman, associate curator of rare books and curator of "The Art of Alchemy" at the Getty Research Institute, discusses how this medieval magic has had an enduring influence on scientific and artistic culture."

  The Alchemy of Baldness
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-12-2025, 01:42 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

"I have been leaning on the wisdom of the ancient natural philosophers for my understanding of MPB (Male Pattern Baldness) because
(1) I tried the science crap and it didn't work, and (2) it's way more interesting."

Rasa: the Fluid Essence of Indian Thought
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-12-2025, 01:35 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

By Alejandro Martinez Gallardo Redo

The term "rasa" has one of the most complex and nuanced semantic fields in the whole of Sanskrit literature. The meaning of rasa varies in the context of Vedic sacrifice, Indian alchemy. Āyurveda, aesthetic theory, religious devotionalism or Tantric ritual. In this paper I trace the evolution of the term, focusing on its etymology and on its different usages among different schools of thought. As David Gordon White observed "rasa was and remains the ‘fluid essence’ of Indian thought.”

Google Arts & Culture: Venice embraces alchemy
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-12-2025, 01:25 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

"In the 16th century, Venice began to be seen as a magical city, capable of captivating intellectuals from all over Europe, just as Prague would later do. However, Venice was primarily the beating heart of the typographic arts and a place of surprising cultural tolerance. Books exploring hermetic doctrines, Kabbalah, and alchemical practices – often viewed with suspicion by ecclesiastical authorities – were published here."
