Rasa: the Fluid Essence of Indian Thought - Paul Ferguson - 09-12-2025 By Alejandro Martinez Gallardo Redo The term "rasa" has one of the most complex and nuanced semantic fields in the whole of Sanskrit literature. The meaning of rasa varies in the context of Vedic sacrifice, Indian alchemy. Āyurveda, aesthetic theory, religious devotionalism or Tantric ritual. In this paper I trace the evolution of the term, focusing on its etymology and on its different usages among different schools of thought.
