  Between al-Rāzī and the Pseudo-Rāzī
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-14-2024, 06:13 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

"This contribution focuses on two Arabic alchemical treatises that circulated under the name of the 10th century philosopher, physician, and alchemist Muḥammad ibn Zakarīya al-Rāzī: the genuine Book of Secrets (Kitāb al-Asrār) and the spurious Book on Alums and Salts. The two treatises are discussed in the context of al-Rāzī’s genuine and spurious production and of their reception among Western scholars. By examining the contents and structural features of these two treatises, this work seeks to shed light on the relationship between perceived authority, structure, and laboratory practice in medieval alchemy."

Video: Lost Alchemical Textbook of Agrippa FOUND!
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-14-2024, 06:06 PM - Forum: Alchemy texts - No Replies

"Agrippa is famous for his Three Books of Occult Philosophy but we also know he was a lifelong student of the Hermetic Art of Alchemy. For centuries his alchemical theory and practice were only understood from a few, brief passages in other works and letters - most still untranslated. However, in the past decade an otherwise anonymous text published in 1572 known as De Arte Chimica (On the Art of Alchemy) has been shown to have very probably been composed by Agrippa! Why do we think Agrippa wrote it? What do we learn about his practice of Alchemy? How does his Alchemy interact with his famous Three Books of Occult Philosophy? Join me as I explore a lost textbook of Agrippa's Occult Alchemy."

Fiction: A Locket of Hermes (Adam Craig)
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-12-2024, 08:31 PM - Forum: Reviews and book notices - No Replies

"Ruined by the 1929 stock market crash, Tristram finds himself penniless and stranded in Budapest, friendless and far from home. He's given a last chance to save himself - simply deliver an old locket to be repaired. But in a near-miss road accident, the locket vanishes and he finds himself on the streets. Befriended by the suave but dissolute Voit, Tristram becomes convinced the locket has been stolen by the ruthless Attar Nox and he and Voit try to steal it back. The robbery goes wrong and Tristram finds himself on the run. Along the way, he meets Alba, Nox's fiancée and former prisoner. As they find temporary refuge in a small basement flat, Tristram is haunted by spectres past and present and, when their safety is finally shattered by the appearance of an unexpected ghost from his past, he is forced deeper into a quest that is stranger and more challenging than Tristram realises. Blending echoes of Celtic myth and Grail legend with an undercurrent of Alchemical thought, A Locket of Hermes is a spiritual quest towards a deeper reality, a deeper sense of self."

  Video: Nigredo by Steve Seven

Nigredo: A Full Initiation into Spiritual Alchemy. Foreword read by Steve Seven.

"This volume is based around the occult history of the toad which has been a common symbol for the shadow in alchemical systems throughout the centuries. There are many facets of the toad which has made it such a popular candidate for a symbol of the shadow. Most obviously the toad has very definite stages of metamorphosis from an egg, to tadpole and then into the toad proper. This life cycle lends itself to being an apt symbol of the transformation of the fires of alchemy. The present volume is brought to resolution with the closing chapters on the psychology of the so-called “evil eye” and the toad in Western alchemy. The rituals and exercises that are detailed and discussed in the closing pages of this book are part of a series of practical elements of the initiation and Work of spiritual alchemy and these will be extended and added to throughout this series."

"We challenge conventional wisdom by exploring the intriguing contradictions between alchemy and Greek philosophy. Discover how early Christian thinkers, like Bardaisan, rejected Greek syncretism and forged a unique alchemical path, distinct from Platonism and Aristotelianism."

"CCCC MS 395 is a compilation of alchemical texts copied partly in the early fifteenth century and partly in the late fifteenth or early sixteenth century. It begins with a long text by Iohannes de Rupescissa OFM (Roqetaillade, d. c. 1362 - pseudo-Ramon Lull), his Liber de consideratione quintae essentiae. This section contains a few diagrams and coloured drawings, notably two full-page (ff. 49v-50r) illustrating lunaria grass."

  Breast milk

Short but quite interesting article on breast milk.

"Virgin’s milk was actually the “milk of Wisdom’ (Sophia, feminine creation life force of God and personified wisdom); a metaphor for the food of philosophers (the lovers of Sophia), Gnostics, and alchemists."

A Fool's Wisdom
Science Conspiracies & the Secret Art of Alchemy
By: Steven A. Young MSci PhD
Narrated by: Steven A. Young
Length: 8 hrs and 9 mins

Attend to these words gentle soul, herein ye shall find a two-part alchemical discourse concerning the purity and veracity of scientific thought, separating the 'ugly truth' (science conspiracies) from the 'beautiful truth' (the secret art of Alchemy).
Part One takes aim at the post-modern secular worldview of Scientific Materialism or Scientism, rebuking and revealing the fatal flaws inherent in its core beliefs and cosmology, as well as the various conspiracies and occult shenanigans underlying physics, chemistry and medicine. It is said that 'adventure is an attitude towards discomfort', and to the theorists, statists and sophists take heed, there may be some discomfort ahead, as the pillars upon which you stand will be systematically dismantled and debunked through a combination of wit, fierce logic and timeless wisdom.
Part Two unveils the ancient Hermetic practice of Alchemy, also known as The Science of Transformation or The Art, a universal system of spiritual knowledge common to all mankind but hidden behind a mantle of domestic counter-intelligence and worthless academic theories. Alchemy is so empowering and enlightening that it is deemed unfit for public programming, and so it must be sought out by curious individuals who initiate themselves on the path.
