  Alchemical imagery in political cartoons
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 10-13-2025, 11:27 AM - Forum: Alchemical symbolism and imagery - No Replies

"We’re all familiar with the format of political cartoons: caricatures of political figures drawn in a way to criticize or satirize their policies and decisions. As the Science History Institute’s assistant museum collections manager, I’ve undertaken a complete inventory of the museum’s collections. While working on our fine art collection, I noticed that we have a number of political cartoons featuring chemical or alchemical imagery. Why, I wondered, is this such an oft-used motif?"

Roger Bacon: The Mirror of Alchimy
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 10-13-2025, 11:24 AM - Forum: Alchemy texts - No Replies

"The Mirror of Alchimy is a short alchemical manual, known in Latin as Speculum Alchemiae. Translated in 1597, it was only the second alchemical text printed in the English language. Long ascribed to Roger Bacon (1214-1294), the work is more likely the product of an anonymous author who wrote between the thirteenth and the fifteenth centuries."

  Videos: Introduction to Taoist Alchemy
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 10-13-2025, 11:17 AM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

This video introduces a Taoist secret breathwork practice known as the Lesser Mandala of Heaven, or Xiao Zhou Tian 小周天. Rooted in classic Taoist inner alchemy (內丹, neidan), it teaches you to unlock a hidden energy circuit that runs through your body, up the spinal Du 督 meridian and down the frontal Ren 任 meridian, forming a continuous loop of vitality:

This is Part II of what we started in Part I on the Lesser Mandala of Heaven. Part II covers the Greater Mandala of Heaven, and in doing so, provides an advanced introduction to Taoist alchemy:
