| London, City of Alchemy: a walking tour |
|

When: Thursday 18 June, 11.30am to 1pm
About this tour:
London was not only built in stone and gold: it was shaped by centuries of obsession with transformation.
This walking tour explores the hidden alchemical imagination of the City: the pursuit of the philosopher’s stone, the dream of turning base matter into perfection, and the early scientific and spiritual ideas that helped shape modern London. Moving through historic streets and buildings, we will uncover how architecture, commerce, belief, and experimentation intersected in a world where the boundaries between mysticism and science were far more fluid than we might expect.

""In The Serpent's Secretion, a groundbreaking synthesis of ancient wisdom and modern biochemistry, readers are invited to unlock the dormant spiritual energy coiled at the base of the spine—the legendary kundalini. This book reveals how the pineal gland, often calcified and suppressed by modern toxins, serves as a biochemical gateway to visionary states, out-of-body experiences, and dimensional travel. By integrating yogic breathwork, sexual transmutation, and dietary detoxification, the author provides a step-by-step roadmap for safely awakening this primordial force and reclaiming one's birthright of expanded consciousness."

Thursday 4 June
By popular demand, Amal Salem returns to Treadwell's to deliver her illustrated talk on Islamic magic, occultism and beliefs around the unseen:
In this talk, Amal offers a concise introduction to Islamic cosmology and the Golden Age traditions of astrology, mathematics and esoteric thought. She highlights notable texts and scholars before moving on to Islamic beliefs around angels, jinn and other invisible spiritual beings. The evening includes a discussion of magic and witchcraft in Islam, with reflections on whether 'appointment over jinn' makes someone a magical practitioner. Afterwards, we have a Q&A before heading upstairs for complimentary drinks.
Amal Salem is a researcher studying magic and occult sciences at a UK university, specialising in Islamic occultism. Of Arab background, her interests include jinn (jinnology), karamāt (spiritual gifts) and esoteric Islamic traditions. She runs the TikTok channel @magicandoccult and founded The Occultists, a space for dialogue among magical and spiritual communities.

"The authorship of the iconic Taoist alchemical text The Secret of the Golden Flower is traditionally attributed to Lü Dongbin (born Lü Yan), a Taoist scholar, poet, and adept who lived during the Tang dynasty in China. According to legend, his life spanned over two hundred years. Elevated to the status of an immortal within the Daoist tradition, he is one of the most well-known figures among the Eight Immortals. At the same time, Lü Dongbin is also a historical figure, mentioned in the official chronicle History of Song, and widely regarded as one of the earliest masters of neidan, or internal alchemy."

Science historian Kit Chapman introduces The Age of Alchemy, tracing the long, global evolution of chemistry before it became a modern science. Travelling from ancient Sri Lankan steel forges to Egyptian alchemical texts and Chinese herbal laboratories, he reveals how early experimenters, merging mysticism, medicine and metallurgy, laid crucial foundations for scientific method and discovery.
