"The authorship of the iconic Taoist alchemical text The Secret of the Golden Flower is traditionally attributed to Lü Dongbin (born Lü Yan), a Taoist scholar, poet, and adept who lived during the Tang dynasty in China. According to legend, his life spanned over two hundred years. Elevated to the status of an immortal within the Daoist tradition, he is one of the most well-known figures among the Eight Immortals. At the same time, Lü Dongbin is also a historical figure, mentioned in the official chronicle History of Song, and widely regarded as one of the earliest masters of neidan, or internal alchemy."
