Frontispiece to Pretiosa Margarita

Here is the emblematic engraved frontispiece in the German edition of the Pretiosa Margarita.

Giovanni Lacinio

Pretiosa margarita, oder neu-erfundene köstliche Perle von dem unvergleichlichen Schatz und höchst-kostbahren Stein der Wiesen, in sich haltend den eigendlichen Grund-Riss und Lehr-Arth dieser göttlichen Kunst: ingleichen andere aus dem Arnoldo, Rhaimundo, Rhasi, Albert und Michaele Scoto zusammen gelesene Schriften...
Leipzig 1714.


As far as I know, it is not included in the earlier Latin version, such as that of Venice, 1546.

This seemingly rather cryptic diagram appears a few pages later in the book.
It has a text in both Latin and German which seems to explain it. When I have the opportunity I will translate it as I am a bit intrigued by this strange image.

Yes, you are correct there. These are found in the 1714 edition, but not in the earlier editions, as far as I know.
