American Nuclear Society: The Quest for Gold
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 01-24-2025, 09:33 AM - Forum: News - Meeting - Events - No Replies

"Alchemists have been trying to make gold out of other elements for centuries. Can nuclear science finally make this dream a reality? Join nuclear alchemist Candace Davison as she explores nuclear science’s approach to making “gold," how nuclear transmutation works, and the many ways we benefit from this process. During this live webinar, she will share activities and resources to teach transmutation concepts, including the Radioactivity Game, Chart of the Nuclides, and the ANS Isotope Discovery App."

Johann Arndt and the Little Ice Age
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 01-24-2025, 09:28 AM - Forum: Alchemy texts - No Replies

"The sky in the northern hemisphere had been darkened, the winters unusually harsh, and the summers barely arriving for decades when the German Lutheran author Johann Arndt published his Four Books on True Christianity in 1610...Arndt’s book was unorthodox: there was very little of Luther’s theology, and quite a lot of alchemical philosophy. He borrowed heavily from the work of the Swiss alchemist Paracelsus, often simply excerpting large portions of the latter’s writing without attribution. In doing so, Arndt injected early modern Protestantism with a heavy dose of Hermetic philosophy."

  Alchemy in Ancient Egypt
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 01-21-2025, 08:57 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

By Junseo Moon

"Alchemy in ancient Egypt was no cheap sorcery nor an inferior makeshift belief. Rather, it was an unique concoction of both magic and science; a blend of the hypothetical with the actual. Alchemy in ancient Egypt was a medium that channeled the critical beliefs and conceptions of the moral and immortal life, along with the socially crucial elements of Heka and Maat."

With useful references and bibliography.

  Spagyrics
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 01-21-2025, 01:53 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

"Spagyric essences are non-toxic, harmless and have a low alcohol content. They are among the most popular and well-tolerated herbal remedies. Practice shows that the advantages over classic phytotherapy are enhanced. The effect is more penetrating, faster and broader than is usually the case with phytopharmaceuticals. This means that spagyric essences can significantly support, enhance and thus reorganize a formula on all levels – where they are needed."

Good article with embedded interview in German (other languages available).

The fungus that eats ionizing radiation
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 01-21-2025, 01:43 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

"In the late 1980s Ukrainian scientists studying the dark, dangerous interior of Chernobyl’s destroyed Reactor 4 found that a black, mould-like fungus was growing across the walls and in pools of radioactive water. The fungus was not just surviving the immense radiation levels in the reactor building, but seemed to be thriving – even growing towards the very highest levels of gamma radiation. Over the next 15 years thousands of strains of hundreds of different species of microfungi were isolated from in and around the Chernobyl disaster site[1]. In tests many of them grew towards strong sources of ionising radiation and some even appeared able to digest so-called ‘hot particles’ – immensely radioactive graphite from the reactor core itself."

The Invention of Chemical Recipes in the Ancient World
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 01-21-2025, 01:36 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

By Dr. Sydney H. Aufrère
Professor of Linguistics
Aix-Marseille University

"The principles used in the preparation of Egyptian recipes were highly technical. The study of recipes engraved on the walls of Edfu’s laboratory shows that Egyptians used three types of preparations: fumigations, fat-based cooked ointments, and resinous ointments for the divine wood or stone statues to make them look like the representations that the Egyptians had of the gods."
