The Surreal Art of Alchemical Diagrams
#1
" As well as reams of text, the ins and outs of the alchemist's task, steeped as it is in a dizzyingly complex symbology, has given birth to a whole host of strange and wondrous imagery over the centuries. Here we pick out some favourites, many found on Wellcome Images and the brilliant Manly Palmer Hall collection at the Internet Archive."

The Manly Palmer Hall boxes are also well worth investigating:

From Box 8 of the Manly Palmer Hall collection:

"The maidens will sing a song that no one will understand unless they are destined to open this book and break its seals."

This image is from Box 4 of the Manly Palmer Hall collection. We think it's by the Frankfurt artist Johann Samuel Mund, a painter and alchemist who established his own alchemical system of Freemasonry. As you can see, he was into his Bible. A book about Mund's system will shortly be appearing in English and German editions, published by Salier Verlag. Note the Seven Seals.
