Kollerstrom: Secrets of the Seven Metals

[Paul Ferguson]

"Traditionally, there were seven metals which were experienced as having a connection with the seven planets seen in the sky. Silver was always associated with the Moon as was gold with the Sun. Today we can re-experience these beliefs - experiments show how the properties of iron for example will vary over a conjunction of Mars, the planet always traditionally associated with iron. This core feature of alchemy, shows us a more imaginative approach to chemistry. The modern metal plutonium may have a connection with the planet Pluto."
