I suspect this forum will see new members.
There's not much discussion here. I think many have migrated to facebook.
Perhaps someone should give Adam a heads up?

Sure; will do. BUT - the main attraction of AT was talking about interpretations, meanings, reading and so on. I can't see that all that many will actually want to come here. Where that doesn't happen.

http://www.tarotcollectors.com/view_topic.php?id=1&forum_id=2

It's all very sad.

Debra, you should probably talk directly to Adam about this.

I was mostly on AT for the section of decks and decks creation. Which also fits here. I do hope that with the closing of AT, this forum will become more active. At least for information about new decks. It has bern too quiet here for too long.

I just posted a new thread on AT with my observations about which user groups are likely to become homeless after the shutdown. It's an opportunity for existing websites to cater for those people...

So much focusing on Readings, and forgetting that without artists, there are no decks.

I have done already - as debra suggested. He's watching how things go before taking any decisions.

I have been a lurker around here for as long as I have been buying decks. I have also been meaning to seek admission here for as long as I can remember coming here to seek more info about decks. I am one of those soon to be former member of AT. The only reason why I dragged my feet was not wanting to have to log into too many forums. But with the closing of AT, this forum and the Tarot History Forum were two of my top ones to register with. Tarot History Forum sadly has been unresponsive to my request for assistance in logging in. I have registered a couple or so years ago. I am somewhat relieved to see a deck creation section here. I have many artists I admire that I got to know on AT. One of them I know is on one other forum and I just saw his handle / username here too :) I am glad I finally made it here after so long :D

Out of curiosity, what do you folks think of idea of people posting some non-collecting topics here, like meanings and the like? The main focus of the forums is collecting (hence the name), but, with AT closing down, do you think we should be more accommodating with other tarot-related interests?

And it's not like it hasn't been done before. Like, I vaguely remember someone posting here about tarot and... chu spaces (I think?!) some years back.

Just throwing out ideas. I mean, Adam still will have the last say on the matter. But it would be great if this forum gets more activity again like the good old days (I remember all the cat herding involved then too! haha)

AT refugees are dispersing to a number of online tarot forums, three of which were recommended to me but which seem inadequate next to AT. Most seem inhabited by
deck of the week and talking tarot types (not a criticism, I'm just not into those categories.) I doubt Adam, a serious scholar would welcome a horde of bunnies here. But it's up to him. Anyway, AT's demise brought me back here :D

So sad everything has changed tarot-wise. I don't belong to FaceBook and remember the days when this forum was so much more active than it is now. I guess I'm partly to blame - too many projects to complete meant that I had to forsake the distractions of AT and TC, but checking in some months ago to find that AT's active life was at an end, Tarot History had slowed to almost zero mph and Michael Hurst had left this Earthly plane felt like a physical blow.

Journey well, Michael Hurst, you will be missed.

There are other forums springing up. I don't do facebook either, but I have a new tarot home now (this place being art and not tarot reading, I needed one for the latter !)

I had a google and thought the Cartomancy Forum looked interesting (and quite varied), but it seems one has to download a programme to change files to PDFs before being accepted. That rang alarm bells with me so I didn't proceed...

You're downloading a program that uploads your photos and turns them into links so they can be imbedded within the message instead of just attached. I've used the program without any issues.

It can't accept attachments - too expensive - so it is tied to a hosting site. But I didn't have to DOWNLOAD anything, just sign up to the hosting site (servimg.com) I don't know about this pdf thing... PM me what message you are getting and I will ask rif. (He's here too actually, but hasn't posted in years...)

I did register - user name, password etc., then the screen went darker and this new large window popped up telling me to download a programme (big green download button) that changes files to PDFs. I've seen something similar on clickbait sites, so I left the page, opened Cartomancy Forum again and tried to login with the user name and password I'd submitted but got a message saying I wasn't recognised. Perhaps if I sign up to the hosting site I can access the forum...

Edited again to update. I accessed the hosting site but got a warning from McAfee that it was unsafe. I thought I'd try registering again since I still couldn't sign in and this time a slightly different closeable window popped up with a big green 'Start' button (instead of the 'Download' one). So I just closed the window and was able to access the forum - very odd. It'll mean that I won't be able to post attachments, but that's OK...

Thanks for the help gregory - hope things are well with you.

OH. That has happened to someone on another forum I'm on. Run a malware check. (AV protection doesn't seem to pick it up.) You DON'T need to sign up to servimg first - I resisted for quite a while on principle.

I'll also alert rif.

Malwarebytes.org. Also run adwcleaner

https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/

And please do me a favour ? when you find what it is, let me know so I can tell the extremely stupid woman on the other forum who refuses to download anything because that's not safe, and says the forum owner should be able to fix it.

I asked rif and he says when I last tested it, there were big ads (not "darkening the screen") that were more prominent than the button to continue or verify or whatever was next.

I'm never here on Windows nowadays so I can't speak to whether it's different for windows.

If she is able to browse here from the hosting site, that's a bit odd. I wonder if it's a forum bug?

If she wants to register, she needs to look carefully as the verify link isn't quite obvious if you aren't paying attention. I don't mean that to be patronizing; just that a lot of people seem to have compliant or issues with that step because of the way it's laid out.

If there are truly bad ads, that's out of my control.

I had a root around and found this post on a forum:

"Re: SERVIMG.COM --- is it dangerous?
Post plantoid on 5/9/2016, 1:10 pm

Perhaps it is blocked by McAfee / Microsoft etc because they don't subscribe to the various forms of blackmail such anti virus companies use to gain new money . I understand that to host on a lot of the big boy's & girl's servers or run through them they want to make you pay a fee ."

The full post is at: http://squarefoot.creatingforum.com/t20575-servimg-com-is-it-dangerous

It sounds like a reasonable explanation. The difference in our experience could be due to the browsers used - I tried with both Chrome and Edge.

Oh, and I edited my original post to say that I managed a way round the download to sign in - I should have mentioned that as you may have missed it.

I re-registered and got a different window with a different green button ('Start' instead of 'Download'). The window was closeable (little cross in the corner) so I got rid of it, submitted my details and signed in. The forum list appeared and I was able to access posts. Odd...

Just to say that after joining Cartomancy one of the posts there alerted me to the fact that Photobucket had pulled the dirty trick of charging $$$ for third party hosting. I flew over to Tarot History, where I have up to 100 images on over 500 posts, only to find that all the ones stored with Photobucket had been replaced with an ugly grey graphic.

So I downloaded a Photobucket file rescue app from Google Chrome (link below), retrieved my files, signed up with Imgur (easy to use and no need to download anything either) and spent two days spring cleaning my Tarot history posts.

Unfortunately posts by others quoting mine still have the nasty grey graphic, but I can't change those. Hopefully Imgur will do well and resist the temptation to 'do a photobucket' - at least for all those who joined under the 'free hosting' terms. I can cope with a few adverts on sites, but Photobucket's pages now feel like an assault.

I will gregory - maybe after Christmas - but everything seems fine at the moment and I'm reluctant to start tampering with this machine right now. I think maybe all the warnings were just McAfee being over-cautious. :kt
