I have now upgraded the software that runs the board from WowBB to the UltraBB system. No data should have been lost in the upgrade. The colour scheme is the default for the new system. I may fiddle about with this over the next few weeks.
The main features remain the same and users should have no problem in navigating around.

Hi tarotcol
Been using the new look software for about half an hour already, and yes, navigating just as easy as before. Everything seems to be there as before, and maybe it works better from an administrator's point of view...
BUT...

...I miss the old "look" of things :~(

Can't remember what the old "themes" were called; I know you could change them, but I always returned to the one I first saw. It was green and gray, and the logo top left toned in perfectly. Now it looks like it's just stuck on top of something else that doesn't match.
Call me a ludite if you will, but if you can "fiddle about with this over the next few weeks" as you say, please see if you can bring back the old look to the new software.

But I will cope if that's not possible :~)

If you go to 'Menu', 'My Account' and 'Preferences', it's possible to set the theme to 'Sea', which is a compatible green with shells and things...

Yup. I reckon that's the best of what is available too :D
But now our avatars have gone! and the pop up emoticons aren't fully functional.

I see your avatar, Sumada.  Do the emoticons work?

:c

Yep.  It would seem so.
So it's you.
Try logging out, clearing your cache, and eating a nice toasted cheese sandwich.  That oughta fix it.

I see no avatars, and the animated smileys are gone. (I just see words for them).

I'm running FireFox 3.6.8 for Mac.
(This is the latest version that will run on my current system.)

Logging out & clearing the cache has had no effect.

I spoke too soon. After running cache cleaner last night and logging out of everything, I too cannot see the avatars or emoticons.

*insert bashing head against brick wall emoticon here*

No avvies. I shall try reuploading mine.... One moment.. .. :gi

The emoticons don't seem to work - I can see them here to the left but they just aren't happening... :? (except for two of they...)

OK - I uploaded a fake while I find the original. So I guess we just have to re-upload them ?

I can see the avatar images and emoticons in Google Chrome.

In Firefox 5.0 most of the avatars and emoticons are missing.

In Internet Explorer 8 most of the avatars and emoticons are missing.

I feel sure this is due to the way Firefox and Internet Explorer are caching these small image files. The new software probably maps the image files to a different location but Firefox and Internet Explorer are going to their cache of these. Clearing the browser cache will probably help or the problem may just heal itself when the browser cache expires.

There will be some teething problems with the new software but no information appears to have been lost. WowBB has ceased trading and thus the software would not be developed further. I had no alternative but to move to the successor in business, UltraBB. At least we now have continuing support for the software.

Avatars and emoticons were working ok on my other machine, with FireFox 5.0, until I cleared the cache. Then they all stopped working.

I think if Adam re-installs the emoticons, they may work.

I'm not sure if he can do anything about the avatars.
We may just have to re-upload them.

Nice ! Too bad about the avatars/emoticons. Like Gregory above,
I uploaded a fake while I find the original.

Went to the farmers' market and came home to find avatars and emoticons intact. Magic?

Thanks, Adam :)

Oh crap - now I need to find my blue cat; should have waited :(

Thanks Adam.

Done - in a less bossy size ! Dunno what caused all that - but the first thing I did was clear my cache (firefox 3.6) - nada....

Hello

no problem here but I don'tdidn't even have an avatar and use Chromium - so I'm posting this post to thank Adam for the work of maintaining this forum !
I know by experience how complicated, painful and boring it can be to update and keep everything safe on a forum, not to speak about spammers or off-chart messages, and customizing those overly complicated themes...

I really like the Sea theme - it's so easy on the eyes and the little shells flip over rather appealingly.

Thank you Adam.

Variety is the spice of life...

I like the colour, but those darn little shells drive me crazy!

I'm running Firefox 5.0, all seems well at my end. Everything now loads much faster, even on my dial-up connection. Big difference :D I see emoticons, avatars, no problem. I'm liking this. :gi

I do so agree !

If these really annoy people I could try and replace them with a non animated image. It does alert us to a thread we have not read or one with a new post, but I find the circling shell a bit too insistant.

:c

People who don't like it can use another theme ??? (I LOVE them !)

I like the sea theme too.

And I really like having the page numbers at the top of page now too. Usually I'm too tired to scroll and it makes me fall out of my chair.
