"This video starts with the Emerald Tablet — about three hundred words, translated into Latin in the twelfth century over an Arabic source from around 750 to 800, which says that the father of the work is the Sun and the mother the Moon. It goes to the Splendor Solis, the most reproduced set of images in Western alchemy, whose oldest version is dated 1532 to 1535 and whose author is unknown: the name Salomon Trismosin attaches only to later copies, and there is no independent evidence he existed. Then to the sentence these writers repeat for six centuries — our gold is not the gold of the common people — and to the green lion swallowing the sun. Put together, they say one thing consistently. The sun in those books is not what lights the room. It is what decides where you look. And the first instruction, in every version of the work, is to put it out."
