"The book is a masterpiece of exorcistic literature, providing priests with practical tools to identify and combat demonic presences. In addition to containing numerous exorcistic formulas, including the famous anathema "Vade Retro Satana" (Step Back, Satan), it offers alchemical remedies to cure ailments attributed to possession and describes in disturbing detail infernal metamorphoses, such as lycanthropy. It also includes an analysis of the heretical groups of the time and a meticulous cataloging of the Devil's titles: Satan, Beelzebub, Lucifer, Asmodaeus… and his various manifestations."
Zaccaria Visconti (c.1570-1630) was an exorcist and member of the Barnabite Order & Saint'Ambrogio of Milan, who taught the art of exorcism at the University of Pavia, he was one of the five priests of Milan authorized to practice exorcisms.
