An alchemist at his furnace - Paul Ferguson - 03-16-2024

Coloured mezzotint by William Baillie after D Teniers the younger. The round cucurbite with the moorshead helmet stands on an open fire on top of the stove. This may be due to ignorance on the part of the artist, or a sign for the fact that here the alchemist is a 'puffer'.
