I just received my copy of the recent Insect Tarot by Osvaldo Menegazzi. It was rather expensive but as it is in an edition of only 36 signed copies, I decided to buy it. The deck comes in an amazing hand-made box.

The 22 'cards' are actually thick board wrapped in a dark paper onto which the printed image has been pasted. These are large, about 6 by 4 inches (150 by 100mm). The artwork consists of extremely finely detailed pen drawings of insects which were then coloured.

I hesitated to buy the Clothespin Tarot  because I did not feel the artwork merited the high price, but with the Menegazzi I did not hesitate for even a minute. It will be one of the treasures of my collection.

 congratulations Adam!

the artwork is gorgeous (it was tempting, but I'm just not a bug person LOL) and of course those wonderful hand constructed Menagazzi boxes are a delight.......it was very expensive though
but this is certainly one of the trophies of your collection.

Fabulous, glad you bought it Adam.

I am a bug lover and also a lover of scientific illustration, something I aspire to do myself. I couldn't afford these but nice to see them in a good collection.

It was produced this summer and, I believe, announced at the Tarot event organised by the Museo de Tarocchi.

Apparently he produced two limited editions of 36 copies. One with the limited edition numbered in arabic numbers and the other using words to indicate the numbers.  You should perhaps approach Menegazzi.  I believe there is a link on Arnell Ando's web site to his workshop.

Me, too, a bug person, very much so. Yes, and also a lover of natural history and natural science illustration and art, which I, in my own very humble way, have made my field.

very much enjoyed seeing this deck, Adam, thank you.

Here are two of the cards from the Insect Tarot.

La Forza is, naturally, depicted by the Stag Beetle Cervo volante.

The Hanged Man is the orb web spider, Gibbaranea.  Of course we all know that spiders are not insects, but does a couple of extra legs matter in a tarot deck !

Really seriously spectacular.

I have both the goliath and stag beetles in my own little bug collection here at home.

*still fairly seething with envy*
