I'm not too familiar with the forum, but this was the place that Google came up with when trying to find a place to discuss tarot card designing. I've recently started my own Tarot deck, and have so far finished the whole Major Arcana and the first three Swords.

I haven't come up with a good name for this deck yet, but here's a sample of four cards. Please note that these are actually bigger than the drawings in real life, and after I've completed the deck, I plan to edit the words and numerals digitally so that it doesn't look quite so messy.

Comments? Also, I'm associating Swords with Fire and Wands with Air - does anyone have any major problems with this?

Hello Saffi.

Welcome to the forum.

Very nice work.
I like the animal concept.
You have a nice sense of composition, and a pleasing rendering style.

I also like the hand written titles.
I don't know exactly what you mean by "edit the words and numerals digitally", but I hope you'll consider keeping them as hand drawn instead of replacing them with typesetting. I like seeing your "hand" there, and I think it integrates well with the images.

One suggestion:
You might consider moving single numbers up to top center.
You have plenty of room there, and I believe it might offer a slight improvement in balance.

As I said, very nice work!

Hi!

I made a few mistakes in the formatting and size of some of the letters - and I completely mislabelled three of the other cards. As I can't erase anything due to the ballpoint pen media, the only way out of it seems to edit it with a computer.

An attempt at it (Judgement and The World):

I was hoping to find someone else to do it for me, since I am hopeless at mixing art and computers... I know the colours don't really match and the words do seem rather out of place.

Some of the others don't have quite as much space at the top - but I suppose this could be fixed with some careful digital editing. Sigh...

Thanks for the comments!

I like your concept of The Chariot Card. The use of an owl and the wolves.

Can't wait to see more your work. You've provided an interesting view of the imagery.

I've always liked researching the traits of a particular animal used by the creator to better understand the energy it lends to the meaning of the card. :ok
