Wow! That's a nice-looking find, and in such great shape. So many of those old Lenormand decks you see on eBay are pretty beat up. Thanks for sharing.

I just got this Lenormand deck off of ebay. It came in an old (yellowed), plain white hand-made cardboard box with penciled notes on it saying "Vieul lenormand (larusson) USA(?) 1890." I think the box was a later addition. The cards are in perfect shape although the paper may have very slightly yellowed - if so, it is uniform.
It is obviously of the same general type as Langustl's, but with the addition of this lovely colored background. BTW, same size and also plain white backs.
Anyone have any more information?
A similar style is found in various 1920s decks known "Madame Le Normands Mystic Cards of Fortune" but they tended to be monochromatic.
Could this style be a late 19th century German design from which the US decks were later copied?Attached Image (viewed 109 times):

Beautiful. These informations were written in combination with my cards.
Maker unknown. SF. 36, compl. Letterpress, 92x59 mm,
square corners. no I. Rs.: White. Lenormand deck, which
is coloured in contrast to the decks mentioned by
Hochman and Jensen. Comp. Hochman FT2 & FT3; comp.
Jensen 1.27. 1900 ca.

I don't have the Hochman or Jensen books, but I have compared this design with earlier ones - the Spiel der Hoffnung (1798) and one almost identical to the Hoffnung cards that is from 1846 and named a Lenormand deck (possibly the first one). Clearly the deck that you and I have was redrawn with minor changes in most cases, but that are a few more significant changes (the Tower, for instance). Our decks appear to be identical except that mine has the light pink and blue sky/background. I've discovered that both decks above are of the the type known to have been published by the Kunst-Comptoir publishing company in Berlin as early as 1854. This is the design that the Mertz Lenormand is based on. It's also the original design that was published in New York as Madam Morrow's Fortune Telling Cards - perhaps as early as 1860. In 1886 the Madam Morrow cards were even more beautifully redrawn.
