I'm curious to know when it became commonplace for printers/publishers/creators to start Gilding the edges of decks. When did the fancy lamination and card stock become a thing.
Knowing would help me take my collection in a different direction I think. I want to have a well rounded catalog of Tarot
The earliest gilded edges I have are on the LE majors only Sacred Rose from 1980. Then came the de la Réa 1982, a special ed Waite-Smith from 1990 (USG) the Kazanlar (1996),Truth Seeker's (2008) a Konigsfurt Waite/Smith (2009), Tydlwick (2013), Illuminati (2013)....
So not entirely new. But it does seem to be a big thing among self-published artists, who seem to think it adds appeal. I'm - not that convinced except in the case of the first two.
