Anyone seen These before? I can't see the name of the artist anywhere - even on the linked site - perhaps I've overlooked it? Reminds me slightly of the deck by Robin Barnitz.

Yep. I've got 'em and so have a few of the Usual Suspects here. They're postcard size. The guy did them when he was a student yo so many years ago.

Thanks Debra - I'd found that page as there's a link to it on the listing, but no mention of the artist's name as far as I can see.
I can't quite bring myself to click 'Buy it Now' - although the drawing is confident and the content original, and there are some I really like - too many darkish/overly masculine cards maybe...

Pen, I find it interesting and I'm glad to have it. It wouldn't be a priority if I was wanting a more controlled collection. It's not a tarot structure, and very much 1978. This was a pretty good year for me but apparently not so good for the artist, judging by his cards. They are copyright to Gaetano D. Marabello.

It's mentioned in Jensen's Manteia Courier 1998-99; apparently in Kaplan's Vol. III page 107
There's a guy on facebook by this name in New England in the US and if that's really his photo, he looks to be about the right age. Maybe.

Thanks Debra, I'd guess the copyright belongs to the artist, although the info page mentions 'investors', who might have wanted something for their input.
I only have Kaplan 1 and 11 - I wonder what else I'm missing?
According to the listing some buyers thought they looked Satanic - perhaps that's why many are left (out of the edition of over 1,000). I don't think they're at all Satanic - just deep and fairly dark.
Judging from the info page the artist seems to have moved on.

I have the deck. A friend of mine who lives is Poughkeepsie, NY gave them to me a few years ago. It was a fabulous gift! The information I have is:
Bone Black's Cards, A Modern "Tarot" by Gaetano D. Marabello was self published in 1978. I have the 2nd edition of 32 cards.
All the above info was taken from the deck itself.

Also, the deck I have came in a large cardboard box. It came with instructions typed out. I think my friend Dawn purchased them in the early 80's, since this is a second edition.

Alrighty, I've dug up the stuff that came with the ones I bought from exactly the e-bay site you've linked, Pen, in Feb. 2010.
There's a single-page typed letter:"Thank you for your order.
As we explained in the listing and website, the contained cards were hand-wrapped at the time of their printing in 1978 and have never been opened. ..."
Etc. Info on downloading card meanings from the web site, no returns, etc.
There's also a Certificate of Authenticity printed out just for me that specifies the purchase date and,"This certifies that the Bone Black's Cards you have purchased is authentic and was one of the original printings created in 1978"
and specifies
Control No. Deck # 124 out of 1650
With a picture of the backs and a line entitled Artist's Signature which I assume has a pasted-in copy of his autograph.
They're nice enough, as I said. Would I walk five miles to get a set? No. Maybe two miles, on a nice day.
eta: Also 32 cards. Nothing said about reprinting them. An edition of 1650 is strange, and I don't see that they're numbered anywhere. It's like an alternate reality in more ways than one.

I was rather amused by this note on his website.
Only 1650 decks were ever printed, and only
1544 remain in existence....
Shipping will occur every Thursday until
the supply is exhausted.
I have sold nowhere close to 1544 copies from
all twenty three decks I produced over five years,
so 1544 of a single deck could take a few lifetimes

It's a great deck for $20 bucks.
A very creative, individual, original view of the tarot.
The drawing style is somewhat "of the time", and a bit raw, but seems to be very adequate for capturing the mood he wants.
It's good, honest work. I like it.
It's offset printed, so the quantity hardly matters.
It will probably only be around as long as the seller is around.

OP, I know, I know, but there's something about some of the cards that's stopping me clicking that button.
I think it's that I don't want to visit those dark places the artist experienced back then. And there's a bit too much testosterone too.
I guess this means I'm not a 'true' tarot collector...

Also, as it does not have a clear tarot structure, so purist tarot collectors might not want to have it in their collection.
