A friend just brought this one to my attention this afternoon - the Wormweird tarot:
http://www.eos-press.com/products-ww.html

I haven't heard anything about it before, but it does appear to be for sale ($29.95 USD).

Has anyone else out there heard of it, or have it yet? To be honest, it looks a bit . . . odd . . . but then the price is low enough that I might take a leap of faith and order it anyway.

Edited to add - here's another website, with more pictures:

It's too modern a sensibility. It is like a B movie horror flick collaged from out takes. If Roger Corman still lived he would market it.

I'm getting very cynical about some of the newer decks. Sorry, but there are so many good artists out there, producing real art.

Unfortunately, potential purchasers outside the US have to face a $40 charge for International postage.  $29.95 + $9.50 (postage) + $40.00 (international surcharge) brings the real price up to $80.

In defense of the Wormwierd Tarot, I'll simply say that it doesn't pretend to be something it's not......which is more than I can say for a certain new release which bears the namesake of a major house.

That still doesn't convince me to purchase it.....but, for serious gamers whose primary focus are RPG's and not Tarot, it's definitely ok for what it is (fun n frivolous) .....and for people who do aggressively collect RPG Tarots for their own sake, well....ya gotta have it.

Finally had time to look. . .

It was made to honour a very significant and laudable anniversary, yet contains old ideas, trumped up with a gimmick. I cannot assign value to Pop Tarts and Cocoa Puffs. No nutritional value.

What a tragic loss of opportunity to showcase twenty years of excellence and contribution.

I like it, I don't know why, but it looks cool.  I am looking forward to getting it.  Like papgeno357 said, it doesn't pretend to be anything that it isn't, which is not something you can say about some decks.  It looks like has good production quality and attention to detail.  Like many have said, alot of the decks coming out now seem to be thrown together and put out there for the money.

I agree that the big publishing houses are getting formulaic, and I have stopped buying them.  That is probably the only way to counter this trend, after the decks don't sell as they wish, maybe they'll go back to the more interesting decks.

Viva variety!

I just checked the EOS site and the Wormweird tarot is labelled

TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK, PREORDERS ONLY

This seems strange. Has it been pre-announced ? I had thought it was available for sale. I cannot remember if anyone yet has a copy.

I tried to buy a small stock to distribute to colleagues in Europe, but did not get a favourable reply from the sellers.  I had thought that EOS were the publisher but maybe this is incorrect.

The deck is by the amazing artist George Higham. I attach a picture from his web site showing him with one of his sculptures.

Someone posted at Aeclectic recently about having received their copy. I'm still waiting on mine, though, and it's been a while since I placed my order.

I'll bet that alot of us from this forum tried to order the deck and we overwhelmed the system!  I did get my order in, and I hope to be getting it soon.

I am rather disappointed with the publisher of the Wormweird tarot. I bought this on the 23rd of October and had to pay an additional $40 International shipping over and above the shipping charge. At that price I was expecting delivery by courier within a  few days. Now it is three weeks since I placed the order and it has not yet arrived.  That is an attrocious service and I feel totally exploited !

Today I got in communication  with the Wormweird Tarot distributor. It turned out he had confused my order with some other product and had not even sent it out yet.  He apologised and agreed to refund me the International postage and send a deck as soon as possible.

Well I suppose I will get the deck eventually !

Interesting, Adam . . . I hope your deck reaches you soon!

I'm a bit frustrated, too, in that I've still heard NOTHING from the seller and still have NO deck, though I placed my order weeks ago.

I think I'll send an email to the seller . . .

I also didn't receive my deck.  I just emailed Eos Press, and they replied saying that what I did was order a pre-order and, quote " Now, the good news is that the shipment containing your deck is almost here - I should get the notification that they're in Customs any day now. Once the shipment is in the warehouse, your order will be mailed to you directly."  And i need to join a mailing group at Yahoo to hear when they are shipped to me.  Apparently the few decks they had in stock were left over from 'convention season'.  I never knew there was a season for conventions.

My copy of the Wormweird Tarot arrived today. It was well worth the wait. I found it rather engaging and spent rather too many moments today, going back to the deck, in spite of having a lot of work to do. I would recommend  it to my fellow collectors.  I have put up a few remarks about the deck onto my tarot weblog page  http://www.alchemywebsite.com/tarot/tarot_weblog.html

I love the deck. I described it on Aeclectic as "campy cool". It's deliciously B horror movie fun.

Did anyone notice that the artist resembles Stephen King?? LOL

I've read some pretty nasty horror stories about people (many people!) ordering this deck and waiting MONTHS to get it after sending dozens of emails. Also that the "site owner/publisher" always blames the elusive shipping guy for everything!

Yikes!

I ordered the deck back in early January, it came within 1 weeks time! I guess I got lucky?!

I too love this ghoulish deck. It's fun and extremely unique. The codex IMO is a fascinating "story"....it flows wonderfully and is engrossing! The artist did an excellent job with this Tarot :)

I was given this deck as a gift today.

I SO Love IT!

I'm suprised to not have heard of it before now that art work is amazing. I think the quality is excellent & haven't seen any decks that are like it in the way it is printed. One thing I didn't like was that all the cards were stuck together. I feared that the pictures would tear from the cards as I seperated them. That did not happen & it was not as bad of a situation as I thought at first. I'm going now to read the Codex that came with it.

Love this DECK, very Beautiful!!!

I have copies of the Wormweird Tarot available if anyone is looking for a copy.
They are brand new, complete decks that I have personally checked.
There was a lot of trouble with the printing of this deck so I check each
deck before it is shipped.

$40 US including shipping

Thanks!  Have a great week everyone!
