Sorry - only just saw this.
Yes. WEIRD card stock - heavy and not easy to bend/shuffle. But a rather nice deck, all the same. Printed in 2007.

Debra has pointed out to me that this is a coloured version of the Light and Shadows deck by Michael Goepferd. I suppose they got permission to use his artwork.

Crumbs. How did I not notice that - and there is no credit given. I thought Death looked vaguely familiar....

I did not notice it either. The strong colouring does seem to change the whole style of the imagery. To me it seemed to locate it within an Indian cultural context. How easily one can be led to recontextualise a set of images.

Indeed - I just had it out and I still wouldn't have.... Kudos to debra ! It really works - I just hope Goepferd does know.... (I have just come from a thread where an MRP deck has been "stolen" and reprinted in Russia with no consent given.

I have enquired of the original artist and publisher by e-mail.

The thing about the Light and Shadow Tarot is the ambiguity of the images within images - to colour it, decisions about what to show and what not to show would have to be made. Or perhaps colouring it has revealed things that are more fascinating to find in looking. I love and admire the Light and Shadow greatly.
I can't imagine the artist himself giving permission for this, let alone allowing attribution to Midha Seema, yet I guess I could be wrong.
It'll be interesting to find out.
I was reading the AT thread about the MRP BG too - so soon after Adam's recent entries in his weblog re. theft of his study courses. It's sickening and disheartening.
Pen
Edited to add: I had an idea that Michael Goepferd was no longer with us - just checked this out on google and it seems to be true.

this deck is sold at a very high price in India.
i feel every tarot artist or tarot reader should publish their own deck conceptualized on their own artwork or pay a designer for same rather then steal others creative ideas and market it as their own and make a fast buck.

Ah, apparently Brian Williams has also passed on.
Thank you for the information, Namaste. I agree with you completely.

I received the following e-mail from the publisher:
Thank you for your email informing us of the copyright infringement on the Light and Shadows Tarot. We have not licensed any Indian edition of this work. Hence, we are sending a cease and desist letter to the publisher (which we know) and asking the company for an explanation.
I am curious to know your relation to the author and how it is you came to discover the Indian version of the cards?

I explained about where I saw the cards and gave them a link to here. They were curious if I am related to Goepferd -- I am not.

Debra,
You really did a great job.
The original artist should get full justice so what if he passed away long back.
Stealing of art and copyright infringement should be severely punished.
so that no other person tries it again.
Please keep us posted about new developments.
Namaste
