I vaguely remember reading about something of the sort in AT. So I checked and found out it was you who started the thread! I don't know what the bill's current status is, but it sounds like a scary thing for artists. But perhaps other people here know more about it can enlighten us on the subject?

Yes, there's a male and female version of each card. It started out as something on a whim, and now I'm having trouble figuring out how to go about publishing it! Plus there's the other section (the zodiacs) whose inclusion to the deck I've yet to decide. :(

Just a sneak peek at something. I've also been working on a deck for Adam, since I felt the original one I submitted might not be in line with his other published materials. I'm down to the last 2 cards (Emperor, and the Wheel). I've attached some sample images. There are 2 samples per card since I don't know yet which version I should use. The one on the left is the original, more colourful-but "flatter" one, and the cards on the right are the more atmospheric, moody ones. The inspiration were the works of Rousseau and trippy 70s art and just went rambling from there.
PS I've noticed that there is a works-in-progress section here in the forums. If this thread could be moved there...

I don't know if the original colorful ones are 'flatter" I kind of prefer them actually.
Beautiful!

So, do you know yet which one Adam will publish? This new one or the other one you submitted?
Ok, I am kinda hoping this one, because I won that deck in the raffle and I LOVE this one!
I agree with Nicole, I like the original 'flatter' version more. The images are just clearer to me.

I prefer the original ones too. The atmospereic ones jsut seem darker to me, and alittle blurrier...
But other than the, great cards! Ly does it again!

The new one. I was a bit embarrassed with the "sketches" deck I made, since that was really me trying my hand at Chronata's minute exercises. Anyway, I shall temporarily refer to this deck as the Naive Deck, since it is partly inspired by Naive art, and because I want an outlandish, fantasy name for it (but haven't really been struck by a good one).
At the onset, it was a choice between the naive deck and a... cartoony deck. I had made empress cards in both styles and vacillated between one and the other, but finally chose the naive deck. I'm attaching a sample of the cartoony one, as a sample of "what could have been."

Hi Ly,
Thanks for letting me know. The cartoon is cute, but I am glad it is gonna be the other one that Adam will publish. It is more my style . Those images are just amazing .

More experiments. The result of the star card (sort of) which i made for the second TCF community deck. I can't draw anything with pen and paper lately, so I figured why not do it with a mouse. Like what happened with the star (though that was also the result of a particularly horrible insomnia attack)
(AAAAND anyone suggest a good name for this?)

The Dark Rider! And I love them!
Remember we spoke about copyright and I mentioned that I thought the Rider Waite CR was due to expire soon? (I'd read it somewhere, maybe over at AT, but can't find where now). I got to thinking about that afterwards. Pamela died in 1951, so technically it shouldn't expire until 2026, unless the copyright belonged to the publishers rather than to her. This can happen sometimes with commissioned work. I think however that what I remembered was that Kaplan had a license to publish it, and that's what is due to expire fairly soon. But... in any case I'd imagine that the treatment of the images is different enough for that not to apply to your designs. The RW has already been copied with (sometimes very slight) variations so many times already

Ly, it is gorgeous!!! I have no idea about the name. Although Dark Rider would sound ok.. or maybe something with shadows/twilight. Hmm.. Twilight Tarot, does that have a ring to it? Just made it up as I was typing .
Anyway, wonderful work again!
And eh... I want!!!!

I thought about that too. There's been a number of decks both commercially-produced and self-published ones that follow the RWS' details very closely and yet at the same time, they're original works in their own right.
I like both Dark Rider (very death card!) and Twilight Tarot, though people might associate the latter with the Vampire-themed series.

I like it. It's very dark (darkness at noon).
Synonyms. I'd steer clear of "murk," though :)

Eventide sounds very promising! I'll use that for the meantime. The Tagalog word for dusk would have been perfect: agaw-dilim; literally, darkness snatches (the word somehow gives the feel of light and dark tugging at each other). Perhaps the only thing that's against Dark Rider would be that it doesn't properly give homage to the original artist (Pixie). AND, well, Pixie Tarot would be too... Fey.
Yes they are rather dark aren't they? Even at noon. (the Sun card looks like an eclipse!). I originally wanted a Drogi feel, how luminous those golden strokes look on the black BG, but somehow, it evolved into something different. So far the cards I want to be the basis for the look and feel of the whole deck would be: 2 of cups. dark, and even dirty, like some old piece of ephemera that's been around.

Hmm.. maybe Dark Smith would be better then.. instead of Rider .
I really like the way it turned out. Different then the drogi indeed. But the way they turned out, the feel of them, they remind me a bit of the foiled decks that I have from Myamo.. especially the foiled Bota. They also have that 3-dimensional thing going for them, which I really like. Still, it is different from the foil one as well.. and it is RWS and not Bota .
Edited to say: I just looked at the scans of the foiled Bota and well, they are different. The only thing they do have in common is the 3-d effect actually.

I checked out images of the foil-stamped Thoth in TG and I finally figured out why you associate the look with the Eventide. It's with the (digital) brush I'm using to colour the images. That's what gives it the crumpled look, I think.
And yes, I'll be using Eventide as a working title. Thanks guys for the suggestions. The threes are about halfway done.
-----
For those wondering what happened to the Art Nouveau deck, the project's currently on break. The tarot part's done, actually, all 44 images are finished, but since I decided on adding zodiac cards as well (both Eastern and Western zodiac x 2 each for each gender), that totally only about half of the deck.

It was mostly the feeling of 3-D that made me think of the foil-stamped. But the colouring on the foil-stamped BOTA and Thoth is actually much brighter then it was in my memory. So the similarities are not as big as I first stated.
The Eventide definately also has that 3-D effect going for it!

Hello all.
Ly is too shy to say this, so I will.
His Nouveau Nouveau needs love.
Most of his work has been destroyed or horribly damaged by the recent floods in his part of the world. He is trying to dry out and iron what he can, but.....
However, the hard disc with these cards on miraculously escaped unscathed. I am VERY much hoping it will be available to buy soon and am hereby asking him to set up a pre-order arrangement so that we can a) let him know just how much we want it and b) (if paypal will allow, given what has recently happened with re-orders for the Gaian deck ) get him some MONEY to try and salvage some other decks.....
Join me in my VERY LOUD PLEA, people ! There is also a thread on AT.

Hi guys. First off, thanks to those who've expressed support for and interest in the deck! Yes, Gregory is right in that I feel embarassed about asking for help (that, and I'm having keyboard problems), but then it would be rude not to thank people for their concern and kindness.
So far, from the quotes I've gotten from the printing presses (the final look for the deck might involve two presses), something around $80 will be my asking price per deck. It will be limited to only 45 copies. The deck will have 44 cards (separate male and female versions of each Major arcana card), 3 by 5 inches. and I'll try to include some freebies as well.
It is a bit difficult for me to ship from here deck by deck, and paypal is an equally problematic area, so if all goes according to how I'm planning it, someone from the US will receive all the decks, receive the payments and mail the cards. Which is why I have to ask around regarding shipping costs. If it fits the budget, then it can be included within the $80 price. I know that that's a price more expensive than normal decks, but this is a limited edition deck, and I would rather receive payment for something I've worked hard for than just receive dole-outs without having worked for them.
I'm consolidating the list of people who have expressed definite interest in buying the deck here and in the other forum. If you're not interested in getting the deck anymore, and you want your name to be removed from the list, or you have two entries here (probably as different usernames), please tell me. I'm trying to make the list as realistic as possible (people who really will buy the deck once it's available), as this will help me with costing estimates.
1. Gregory
2. Naneki
3. Aerin
4. Nicky
5. Jenna
6. Truelight
7. Rwcarter
8. Manda
9. Chronata
10. Conversus
11. Karenquilter
12. Quarkling

At the risk of asking a stupid question, which deck is that you are publishing now? They are so many different posts in this thread I'm not sure. Is it the Eventide Tarot? (the one that appears on top of the page). I thought that is going to be a 78 cards deck.
Thank you!

UPDATED LIST:
This is the reservation list for people interested in the deck. This is for a limited edition run of this deck - limited to only 45 copies. I don't have plans of reprinting this since that would be unfair to those who bought it.*
Again, a reminder: The deck 's target price is more or less $80 - I'm hoping this would cover the shipping as well, but I'm still asking around. I'm saying this now so the list here would be realistic (people really listed really will buy the deck once it's out of the printers). I appreciate those trying to cheer me on by saying "they'd buy the deck in a heartbeat" or something like that, but it gets really disheartening when you build up your expectations on who'll be getting the deck only to find out they weren't serious with what they "pledged." So please - again thank you for trying to cheer me on - but if you aren't serious in getting the deck, tell me so I can remove you from the list.
Here's the list so far:
1. Gregory
2. Naneki
3. Aerin
4. Nicky
5. and 6. Jenna
7. Truelight
8. Rwcarter
9. Manda
10. Chronata
11. Conversus
12. Karenquilter
13. Quarkling
14. Ahclem/Papoon
15. Alta
16. Netzach
17 and 18. Jann (2 copies)
19. Conversus
20. Sientara
21. Divinemsm
22. Jenna
23. Iceclone
24. Faerieluca
25. Adam McLean
26. Skad1
* There might however be an "expansion set" - not minors but "zodiac cards." But that will still be far away in the future, and in any case, they won't include the cards in this tarot set.

I totally forgot to reply to this! Maybe in the far-off future I can work on something in a similar vein, but it won't feature the same images. Just a little fyi: the first card ever created for the deck's the empress, and that in turn was inspired by naiive art, specifically rousseau's works (and again to be more specific, his "Snake Charmer" work). Then I got fascinated with persian miniatures along the way (which hopefully shows in the bg of the star and judgment, among others). So it's a mix of different inspirations which hopefully still result in a coherent-looking deck.
and just an update of sorts. apparently I have a friend (a trustworthy one) based here who has a paypal account, and he's agreed to receive payments on my behalf. So that problem's solved.
I talked to the printing presses (there will be 2 - a digital one for the fronts and an offset one for the backs), and it seems having two types of lamination would be too expensive (I originally wanted glossy fronts and matte backs), :( but hopefully there's still enough... aesthetic contrast between the white fronts and the kraft-faced backs.
also, I will be adding a surprise or two with the decks, but, well, telling you what they are will result in a philosophical conundrum (since unrevelation is part of the nature of surprise. lol). well, someone here knows what they will be, but I don't think she'll tell anyone.

Sorry for the longish gap between updates. There have been funding and printing delays. I really still am hoping the people who've "pledged" will get their copies this December. The cards are currently with the "back printers." Next week it'll be the "front printers."
I would have wanted to keep this as a surprise, but I figured, it would be good for people to know they would be getting good value for the money they'll be paying for the deck - plus it will be good encouragement for people to actually get a copy of the deck too. You see, when I was doing the layout for the printing, there were all these extra spaces left after the Baging Sining cards have filled-in most of the sheet. They weren't big enough for me to put in more Bagong Sining cards (which would have saved me some money since there would be less sheets), but these spaces were enough for...
2 more Mini decks! So yes, aside from getting a copy of the 44-card Bagong Sining Tarot, you'll also be getting 2 extra Majors-only decks free. They're very small, and are really more of... tarocature doodles, since they're very character-driven. They will also be released in a limited-edition run of only 45 copies, so I won't be making any more of them (though I plan on maybe expanding on the visual style I used for the monochrome one, maybe in the future).
So here are card samples from the 2 extra decks:Attached Image (viewed 123 times):

So here are card samples from the 2 extra decks:

Ly really needs a few people to pay up front so he can pay the printer. PM him for details if you are up for this.... then we can all get them that bit sooner.
I am up for it. I will pm him.

I just got the pics from last weekend. I'm posting some as a "progress report" of sorts on the deck. The big cards have finally been cut, as well as the Giguil deck. Still cutting the cards of the Parac deck. I swear, the small ones are actually more difficult. The boxes are mostly done too, I just have to line the insides with some iridescent paper.
The pics show the Tarot Bagong Sining, the Tarot Parac, and the Tarot Giguil, as well as the box the Bagong Sining comes in.
Thanks all for your patience!Attached Image (viewed 48 times):
