Another interesting acquisition, by Carol Hartman Devall. Ebay seller was hypnosix. Apparently she is an artist from Nebraska (I didn't think anyone actually LIVED in Nebraska! LOL), and the cards were part of an art exhibition she did at Gallery Nine. That's all the info I've been able to glean!

Just got my Cirque de Whimsy and I have to say I just love it.  It's hard to find a favorite card in the deck, but I do adore Mrs Preying Mantis with hubby's head for the Queen of Swords.  And I LIKE the Queen of Swords.  I think this will be a good reading deck as well as a collection deck.

Hey guys !

I located the artist who makes this deck ... woohoo!

She's working on a limited edition of about 30 right now... She will be sending me a deck sometime next week and I'll post scans....

I was thinking to start a new thread and maybe who is interested in getting one, can post, so we can put a list together.

What do you guys think?

She said she'll be making hand made boxes for this deck ....

Don't worry, she has a few decks ready to go, she is just figuring out how much the shipping will cost to me .....

But it will come down to $45 plus shipping for the decks I am buying since I pay for shipping and then for anyone in the US , one deck in a hand made box will be $40 plus shipping.

I might do another trade with you, Pen! I am sure I'll be keen on the sequels of your novel, too ....

So you will be #1 out of 30 : )

It takes her a long time to make these as she has kids, herbal garden and a busy Nebraska life with things that Nebraskans like to do.... gardening, cooking etc etc

: )

I've been bugging her for over a month now, she just finished setting up her paypal and so forth......

Finding her was easy as she's on Facebook, I just figured we organize a list to not overwhelm her with people bombarding her with facebook messages to order, but I encourage you all to post messages of excitement, it will definitely get her work on the remaining decks faster : )

Hey guys!

Carol just wrote me that several forum members have contacted her in the past week, which is fantastic .... she may not respond right away but she will : )

I'll have a couple of decks next week and post photos etc, I'm excited that you guys get her motivated... woohoo!

I'll have decks for Goldenweb and Tantricknite and everyone else can (should) order from her.

Hello dear, here's Carol's Facebook - you can contact her directly here:

http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1256868368

It took me about 2 months to finally get her to mail out 4 decks to me, so prepare for a bit of a wait.

Don't know what I'll do with the ones I already ordered but I'd rather not sell or trade them here as this will be causing another wave of the kind of stuff that baffles me.
I may give them away to friends or something, there's been too much weird gossip going around that translates to: "Beatrice is a profit hungry bitch, don't trust her etc etc" ....

I just don't know where this profit would come from , but I'd rather not further engage in what I thought would be a cool thing.

Sorry ....

I just want nice decks for myself, and pass along stuff to certain people, and ditch what I won't keep on ebay.

What's wrong or suspicious about this? You tell me. But I am sooooo tired of this kind of stuff, we germans get bored with the silent post game ; )

xoxo
B

B, I'm still looking forward to mine - I've PMed you about it. And I don't quite get the 'silent post' ref., but I've said it before and will repeat it here that you're definitely one of my tarot stars...

You know what ... if a well respected (here unnamed) forum member sends a PM to Langustl that I cannot be trusted as I "buy up clueless members decks and turn them for profit on ebay" .....

That says enough .... and that's when I know that "these shoes were made for walkin" .... fast.

Langustl happens to also be a personal friend of mine , and that makes this extra bizarre and cruel on a human level. And that's the kind of place where I don't want to go... my intention was to scramble up hard to find decks or try to work out more affordable decks for the forum - and not get hurt.

I'm sure you'd feel the same. And I am sure this very same person made sure to spread the "news" wherever these may have come up, cause that's simply not true.

I'm not down with this ....

That's simply unfair and wrongly judgmental on the part of this person, and I guess I would feel the same under those circumstances. Sending you good vibes....

I am also really sorry to hear that, LuluKat. I actually wrote a longer response already in the collaborative deck thread, but I feel the need  to repeat it here (or at least part of it):

I think it is sad that someone accuses you of being a money hungry monster. My impression of you is that you are just very enthousiastic. And that you do have a genuine interest in tarot and love to share it. Maybe some people find that kind of enthousiasm difficult to deal with.

You know, people could accuse me of being a money hungry monster too. I have sold decks on Ebay before (though I spend more on buying others then I ever made on the ones I sold). I have also bought up bunches of decks for friends of mine, for no profit. All those things you describe. And yes, I participate on collaborative decks. For my love of the tarot, but also because I am dying to have a copy of these unique decks. Does that make me a bad person. Or a money grabber with no love of tarot. No, I love the tarot. That is why I do it. So don't let yourself be discouraged by someone bathmouthing you. :tt

From what you've said it sounds as if it's just one person, who could have any one of a number of different reasons for doing this, as Tantricknite said on the Langustl thread. The rest of his post made a lot of sense too. I'm sure most of us here, like Truelighth says above, see you as full of love and enthusiasm for tarot rather than anything money-oriented - as tantricknite said, you're not going to get rich selling stuff on at cost.

Yes ... but me also selling my overflow on Ebay makes the above a contradiction to most - understandably.
The only thing that freaked me out was that some people started wondering if this is just another profit making strategy of mine, but maybe asking me personally would have resolved many things in an instant.

I think the main issue was that I had bought a deck from a forum member in April (which I still have, by the way) but had later acquired another copy that was in a collection or something like that... don't remember.
I think I was bidding on that deck on ebay, then purchased said deck from this forum member and then the auction was over, and I won that deck too!

When I offered it for trade in the forum (the ebay one, not hers) , this person got upset. When I put it on Ebay, it became part of a nasty discussion in a Ebay related thread in the AT forum.

Now, I never told the person that I never sold her copy ... but I was upset about her pseudo samatarian remarks about never making markups when reselling, which is not true, and under the pretense of the holy martyr who would rather burn in hell than making a markup, she took it as a platform to bash on people like tantricknite, which is NOT okay.

He is always honest when he buys in the forum and lets the sellers decide wether they are OK with him reselling those or not.

Therefore I felt that her remarks were extremely out of line.

Sorry... to much talk about nothing ; )

I think you have explained your situation throughly and we all get it. And Yes it's T.M.I... I also think its time to move on and drop the discussion as it's getting to personal. What happened to you was not cool but one persons devious actions (In regards to Langustl ) in no way at all reflects the attitudes of the rest of the members of the forum...And you don't need to prove anything to us.
Me personally I accept the fact that some people are not comfortable with my Laissez-Faire world view but I also try to understand what they are about as well.......

This is what my daddy called unjustifiable optimism but I live in hope...

Is it over now ?:kt

Can we talk about how we all want a wooden Kashmiri ?

And if we all don't, can I have the first one that shows up ?

Thank you for listening, and good night .

These are the available boxes for the decks that I have, I'd need Pen and Tantricknite to let me know which color you'd like.

The cards are shrink wrapped (pics are of my copy of the cards).

I have one extra deck left, if someone's interested, please PM me, otherwise you can order them from Carol through her facebook account.

Gregory is taking my extra copy - will try to find out Carol's personal email for those who'd like to buy a deck.
As it seems, most of you don't use facebook (understandably).

Any color is fine with me ... Pen and Gregory can choose and I'll take the one thats left  ... I like her art . It simple yet it interpets the tarot archetypes quite well .I like the Tower card: It's more scary then tragic.I tend to view the tower cards as a 911 event. This one reminds me of nite mares or maybe a party gone terribly wrong. In other words a lot of the drama we have in our lives is just a self fufilled illusion and not the earth ending event we imagine it is .....

The cards are shrink wrapped (pics are of my copy of the cards).

I have one extra deck left, if someone's interested, please PM me, otherwise you can order them from Carol through her facebook account.

I saw the twin towers blow up from my window in NYC but never saw a connection with the card .... this one reminds me of what would happen if a bomb went off ... at a sideshow.

For me 911 forever changed my perception of the tower card. It went from being a picture of a medieval tower you might see in a fairy tale book to something very real.Probably an extreme interpretation but the images from 911 affected me pretty strongly and I've had a hard time separating tragedy and destruction from the tower card ever since... So her art on of the tower card softened it a bit and gave me an insight I hadn't
had before.Clowns are actors and pretend to be happy, sad or silly and are about drama....

Orange please if poss., Lulukat, but it's not that important.

We've seen so many moving (in both senses of the word) pictures of 9/11. Yet these stills move in a quite different way by their very stillness and intimacy. That first picture with the police car and the image on the bus stop (which seems now like an odd prophesy of the people who jumped) - words can't express the feelings of that day.

Like tantricknite, I find that the Tower card has never been the same for me since. I actually drew a sketch for a tower card with a skyscaper and two figures with their arms outstretched and flying away before I realized the parallel. I can hardly look at it now.

OK, orange deck for Goldenweb.

Now only Gregory has to pick a color....

It's interesting for me to see how many people associate the tower card with 9/11 ... for me personally, even though I was there for the disaster and saw/smelled/felt it in the flesh, I never see the connection.
My close friend who visited 3 months prior, actually had a dream of a meteor blasting into the twin towers.

To me, it's the burning rubble and the smell and lack of air and running/crying people that is etched in my mind, along with a severe sleep disorder (now 8 years and counting) and jumping up in my sleep when I hear helicopters.

I am sorry for everyone, everywhere, for the post traumatic stress associated with the 9-11 tragedies.
I send best wishes and light to all, for peace.

As for the cards, the Wheel of Fortune is great!!
