This specialist forum has been set up to give we tarot collectors the opportunity to share information about all aspects of tarot collecting.
There do not seem to be many serious collectors of tarot cards and imagery, possibly because the subject of tarot has rather negative connotations to those who are not familiar with this imagery. Tarot's association with fortune telling, occultism and magic, appears to make many people uncomfortable. Art historians turn a blind eye to tarot, even though many respected contemporary artists have designed tarot decks. Its artwork is, consquently, neglected and often dismissed as trivial and childish.
Though a small group, we tarot collectors are usually aware that in making our collections we are gathering together an obscure mass of material, often finding items previously completely unknown. Most areas of collecting today (say coins, porcelain, paintings) are well documented by numerous reference works. We tarot collectors have only a small number of such reliable documentary sources available to us. Thus we often must rely on fellow collectors for information.
This forum has been set up to allow the small group of dedicated tarot collectors to share information, alert others to interesting finds or auctions, and to encourage people developing an interest in tarot art to build a collection.
