2011 Collaborative deck.  No theme.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Restrictions:  One (1) Major per person and two (2) minors.   Only exception if someone wants to do all 4 a number on the minors, eg. all 4 3's, they can do those 4 and no major.   Any changes, suggestions, etc will be handled by Gregory and Marcia959

:ce:ce:ce

Da Rools:
The deadline is June 30th. We mean it. Any cards not with us – in their high resolution format - by then will be reassigned to fast workers – we know who they are.

WE MUST have a card of the right dimensions – see below - in jpg or tiff format, at a resolution of AT LEAST 300 dpi by that date. If you can’t do that yourself – find someone who can help you, and do it NOW. It really isn’t that hard.

If you are caught in a hurricane we require evidence in the form of a photo of your demolished home, with grid reference so we know it is really your home. Similar evidence is required of open heart surgery, unexpected childbirth or volcanic eruption.   To get over the problem of a few people last year who said “Oh I thought I’d done it” or “Oh sorry I forgot” we shall be sending out monthly reminders to all participants. Do not take offence. We shall be sending them to each other as well.

There will be a LWB!  May as well send your bios in now, and do prepare to write card descriptions too. If they are not forthcoming, gregory is awaiting delivery of what she is assured is the WORST tarot book EVER written – the one that says things like “These two cards drawn together signify nothing. It is a meaningless combination. Ignore.” We will (probably) include the description of your card from THAT BOOK if you cannot come up with one J Believe us, you don’t want that.

No title or card number, that will be in the border that someone else does. see last years as an example

gregory and Marcia959 have spoken. :ok

he-he-he, gotta love 'em

Card size and ratio.  (Same as last year.)

This diagram is the actual card size and dimensions.  The dashed area is the border which will be done by someone else, your design area is 2 1/2 by 3 3/4 inches.  To make the final design look as good as possible, it is always recommended to work at a larger scale.  Then when the final design is scaled down at the end, it minimizes any little imperfections.  It just looks better.  The second diagram is the the card sized up twice size, just to give you good working dimensions.  You can work any scale you want, as long as the final ratio is 1:1.5.  In other words, 1 inch in the horizontal equals 1 1/2 inch in the vertical.

All dimensions are in inches.

OOH someone is doing what I did with the threes ! Exciting !

Updated to here - but acucent has slipped up, so I've put Star and Sun on hold pending a decision on WHICH....

Please note - ONE major only, and 2 minors - OR a set of 4 minors as namasteindia has done.

Wow! These cards are going even faster then the Boltcutter's decks... :cl. So many cards sproken for in just a few hours time!

Good to see that so many are participating. I still don't know about the minors... I had my eye on the 6 of pentacles maybe, but I am perfectly happy to let NamasteIndia do all the 6's:ro. Those will rock!

Ok...um...Knight of....shiny things? Nice parting gifts?

I guess that would be Cups, then.

And I am going to need some big-time help with getting the size exactly right

Yeah...I know sherry stated what it is...but I am such a mathidiot, that I get anxiety attacks just looking at the  dimensions.

Can someone help me? pretty please? Or just tell me (in inches) what you use?

The area of the finished image (as printed) will be 2 1/2 by 3 3/4 inches.

While you work - if you, like me, like to work at a larger size and shrink it when you're done - you need to have 1 inch horizontal to 1 1/2 inches vertical - as in, say - 4 inches by 6 is what I work to.

And you have your Knight. I will update the chart AGAIN in a minute.

acucent has taken up her first choice - which now leaves the Sun up for grabs.

I am now going to bed. Anyone signing up after this post - I will add you in the morning. So please LOOK at posts after this one as well as at the chart. Thank you for listening !

Indeed you may. That's all the majors gone now, unless you count the title card.

I'd like to do these four minors:

9 Swords

4 Cups

4 Pentacles

8 Wands (figured I'd ask for at least 1 upbeat card! :gi)

Alternately, Gregory, if you get no takers on the title card, I believe can swap two of my minors  for that one, and keep 9 Swords & 4 Cups.   Since I haven't done a collaborative deck with you guys yet (just one last year on another forum ;) so far), I may need some guidance on whether we want contributors' names or not.

Seems like a squinty, blindness-inducing, headache-causing idea :Zwith so many cards to credit, but I thought I'd ask to see some title card examples from previous years if that's what you usually like to do....

WELCOME !!!!!

TECHNICALLY it'd be three minors, I think (since you missed out on majors. The Four deal is only if you take a full set - as namasteindia has with the 6s. Must change the sign up to reflect this; I can't see why not 3 minors now. Marcia may kill me... Emails Marcia... Watch space...)

In case you want to take the title card - it should be up here somewhere in last year's thread... One (many) moment.

2010 isn't there, but the 2009 one is in that thread....

I THINK this is a link to it.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e225/mr-ahclem/TCFDeck.jpg

THAT was BlueToy's work; I assume the 2010 one was also. I'm not aware it isn't up for grabs - so you can have three minors (a fourth may be available later) or two and that. I'll put you in for your first two for now.

Names - up to you; the LWB lists our forum names on the whole. But as to the title card - NO - no names have ever been on that; just the name of this forum.

Is there a scan of the title card from last year anywhere ? I am assuming it is Ly's work, but it doesn't say...

And yes - not that many cards left to go; when AprilFool decides which way to jump, we will be down to only 22 +title card left :ok.

Agree, 3 minors unless you pick a whole set of 4 of the same number.  And we are a no-kill shelter here.  That doesn't mean we won't chase you down and torture you if you are late with your submissions, though.

Anyway, can I have the 2 of Swords and the 2 of Pentacles this time?

Blisters - see near the top of the thread. Now that all the majors have gone, you can go direct for three minors !

This is getting better by the minute.

OK, Gregory, I'm game! :ok  I'll take on the big shoe-filling completion task of the title card, along with the two minors you've already assigned me (4 Cups & 9 Swords).

So, I turn away from figuring out how to represent greed or speed (this year, at least)...

OK, I'll bite again. I'm getting into this already and have one option for the Page of Cups complete, so, as I've only taken two, may I also have the five of coins? (If we don't mind non-scenic pips - which is what I would like to try)

Just as reminder to all, only those who contribute designs to this deck will have the opportunity to purchase a copy.  That's part of the collaborative idea for this deck.

So, if you're waffling on whether to create a card or not, I hope this tips you over into the YES side!

Best wishes!

LOL Marcia, I am so relatively new here that I wouldn't know what the previous decks looked like. I do know that I love collaborative decks, and that I am signed up for this one. :ok

Hello Gregory and Marcia. I would like the seven of wands if I may. It looks like each person must take 3 cards. If so, then I would also like the seven and the king of swords. I finally have some free time and I need a nice little project. I use the GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program). This is what I used to make my avatar, a 4kb transparent gif ( just so you know I actually know how to use the software:D
I joined the forum too late last year to get in on the deck. Now I have the time and if I may, I would love to do a card or 3 for this year.

Excellent ! Welcome aboard. :ok

You don't ACTUALLY have to do three; you CAN just do one, but since you volunteered... I assume you read skad1's post about size and so on ? and no names or titles ?

Way to go - just THREE more cards to go - all pentacles.

Pentacles: Eight, Nine, Knight

Updated chart is here.

I think we'll give it a little while. There are some people with even less than three cards, and you have done four... :D

ETA and indeed someone who has only done one is thinking about it.

Hi, gregory, I agree.  I'm holding back on signing up for more than my three so we will have that wonderful collaborative energy we love.  I don't want it to be the Marcia Marcia Marcia deck.  I've already got a couple of those!!  :cl

So, folks, if you have signed up for only one or two, PLEASE consider giving us just another little piece of your heart, now, babies!!!

Best wishes,

Marcia!

I can't see how the dimensions in millimeters on the template were arrived at - surely they're wrong....?!

Don't stress; just stick with a ratio of 1 : 1.5

You are right though - mm should read cm ! Oops.

Though this does remind me of when I was offered an MRP replacement deck where the cards were (she said) 7mm wide.

I queried....:cl

:D I wasn't stressed, just thought it needed correcting...

It's actually wrong in centimeters too - it should be 6.35 x 9.53cm

Edited to remove posted image...Please see the Card Post thread.

I've finished all three of my cards (first draft) and will post low res. copies of each of them for your feedback.

First, on the title card, do you think I need to change the name of the deck to anything more creative? Also, how about an apostrophe at the end of the word "Collectors"?

Also, does anyone recognize the image I used as "paint" to fill the graphic? Hopefully that won't be objectionable for this year's title card, to use a collage of last year's images? I thought it might be a nice way to tie the two decks together, but I'm open to suggestions!

I'm having a bit of trouble with my graphics software crashing while it randomly decides to change the resolution and dimension of my files. I might need some help with my higher resolution versions from someone who can see if they are proportioned correctly.

Great cards Mr. la-luna and AprilFool. The title card works really well - nice cool/clean style, and I love others too.

Should they be on the Card Post thread as well?

I just got a question. Do you you, Gregory and Marcia know how many of the cards are actually finished now? I am kinda curious.

And for your information, version 1 of my Empress is ready. But since I have 2 ideas, I want to work on the other one too and then decide which one I will use. If I don't manage that before the end of june, there is at least one Empress ready to go in this deck.

Would offer to take the Magician, or even the Ace of Pents, but I already have three minors so not sure that's allowed.

Hello,

I'm new to the forum, since yesterday actually, I could have an ace of pentacles ready, for certain as I have a drawing ready to be painted. The magician I could start to work on and hopefully be ready in time. Otherwise I also have a six of pentacles but I think that's already taken ?

I think you mean Babalon Jones, artist of the Seshet Rosetta Tarot. I already said in the thread that it would be possible, but he/she is too busy with the book for the Seshet Rosetta Tarot to be able to meet the deadline of the 30th of june.

Sorry to cause more stress at such a late date, but a confluence of family and personal issues has made it virtually impossible for me to complete my cards on time, so I'll have to release The Devil and the 8 of Swords.

Again, sorry.

Hang on, Marcia mentioned we might have an extension, so Papoon may be able to stay in.  More info when I have it.

I'll be doing the border, so if you want to send me your final cards that'd be good.  Take Marcia out of the middle.  I am going away for acouple weeks starting this Friday, so I won't be answering emails very often!

I just received an update from the printer that they had run into an issue with rounding the corners.  They state that the shipment of decks will be sent to me today.

SO, if you have not made payment for your deck, please do so now.  Please refer to the TCF Message sent to individual inboxes.

Marcia

PS:  If they mail them today, I should receive them mid-week next week.

Delightful news!!!  The DECKS ARE HERE!  OK, IF you have paid me already, YOU will get your deck first.  IF you have not paid me, please do so now.  IF you never pay me, you will never get a deck.

I'm just a big meanie like that.

I'll be working on the deck mailings and the list of who has paid already on Friday, October 28.  First shipment of decks will go out that day.

Aren't you all just tingly all over???  And could someone, anyone, please wish our own skad1 Happy Birthday???

And I already said Happy Birthday to Skad1 on FB, so that counts too, right? :D

Hello, Lovelies, it's Shipping Day and I have the following contributors who have paid me for decks.  Please note where I have ? for the screenname, it means I don't know who you are (Lance F) so please let me know your screenname.  I need to be able to connect your name with the contributors list to keep it all on the up-and-up.

If you just KNOW you have paid me and you don't see anything on this list that indicates you have done so, please contact me immediately.  My invaluable helper Andrew and I are going to be packing and packaging today.  I have the notes about the "conservative bank", the "extra hardy wrapping for NZ" and the "don't send it to the address in France".  If there were any other special notes, please let me know now.

Smoochies!!  :kt

My dears!  If you have paid for your deck, it is in the mail.

If you have not paid for your deck, why not?  It's delightful!  Contact me with your heartfelt excuses, explanations and promises.

Whoa! I just got home to find mine in the mailbox. (I guess it's an advantage of being in the same general area of Marcia.)

Have only made an initial quick scan through the cards, but so far, looking good.

Haha, if it weren't for the price of gasoline, I would have driven yours over!!

So glad it has arrived in good shape.

By the way, our own CrystalGate has asked if she can do a review of the deck and include some images. I asked her to contact the individual artists since our rule is that the copyright remains with the artist.  Let her know if you're ok.

Got mine today (addressed to my husband, of course - so it sat on the counter unopened ALL DAY!). Argh.

Love it. Fabulous job, everyone! We are a talented bunch, aren't we?? :D

A question re: sacredashes' 10 of Cups - is there part of the quote cut off? It says "Much of your pain is the bitter potion by which".

Ace Of Wands designer/credit is missing from lwb.

My personal especial favorites:

Hierophant (a card I don't usually like!)

Strength

Hermit

Star

Sun

Judgement

4 of Cups

8 of Cups

9 of Cups

10 of Cups

8 of Swords

9 of Swords

9 of Pents

10 of Pents

My only negative is the Happy Squirrel Card.  I don't think it's a proper representation of the true collaborative nature of the group to have one person's photo included on the card. I will probably just remove it....a shame.

Bring on 2012!!!

Hi Kimber,

I didn't know there were rules of what could and couldn't be included in the card; or maybe more precisely, of what should or shouldn't be included in the card.

I'm sorry my card disgusts you so much. Maybe you can just burn it.

And because of your cruel comments, I will probably be leaving this forum.

Janet, my comments weren't intended to be "cruel" - it is just my opinion that hilighting one person in the group detracts from the deck.  "Disgusts" is your word, not mine!! No offense was intended. It may work just fine for others.

The other half of the quote is on the 10.... Put them together and you get a single image. See what you mean if you draw one alone though !

Hi, Kimber, I guess you're just touching on the cusp of what makes it difficult to put this deck together.

Not everyone is going to like everyone else's artistic contributions.  It's a collaborative deck and it's a collage of efforts.

skad1 struggled to get everyone to submit their LWB entries in a timely manner (including *blush* me, the tardy one).  Several contributors feel comfortable submitting their artwork but are very shy to attempt to write about it.

Some people don't have the tools or knowledge to figure out how to submit high-resolution images.  Behind the scenes the team tries to work with those folks too so they can still be successful in their contributions.  We don't name names of course because we love them and don't want them to be discouraged.

It's expensive even though skad1 has found us a bang-up printer.  Someone, one of us (this year it's me) has to pay for all the decks in advance so that we can receive them.  Then, we're dependent on people coming through as they indicated to pay for their own deck.  We tried to get an exact formula to make sure all contributors pay for is the deck + shipping and handling, plus one copy for Adam and one copy for the Museo.  When people don't pay this year (you can do the math from the list of who has paid subtracted from the number of contributors), I get stuck with the extra decks and the extra cost.  Technically, there aren't supposed to be extra decks, so at some point I think I'm honor-bound to burn them!

Our chief nagger and cattle-prod-in-chief gregory has done everything short of dancing on people's heads to make sure that people meet deadlines for submissions of artwork, bios and descriptions.

We do our best so that it isn't a 2011 deck published in 2012!  When they go out, we're thrilled.  When people acknowledge receipt, we're thrilled.  And we hope to do this again in 2012.  Despite the trouble and the downsides, this is a very cool project that I love, personally.

I hope the contributors are proud of their work, will all be brave enough to write bios and descriptions next year, will all be financially flush to pay for their decks and will encourage others to be part of this wonderful collaboration.  We are all Happy Squirrels here.

Oh, and Janet, really the only comment I had about the HS card was that it seemed like a modest sized-collection considering the squirreling away I know I do...my mere 300-400 decks pale in comparison to some collections here!  Otherwise, we know what squirrel-hearts are and the pleasure of the hoard!  Your picture does depict that, surely.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed and who will continue to contribute.  We love you all.

And of course if you haven't paid for your deck and you meant to and it just slipped your mind or you were waiting for the check to come in from the Ace of Pentacles, there's still time to get yours!

This is so true, Marcia; I've had PMs from people saying are we really going to allow x, y, z cards.... Short of taking a vote on every card - basically, yes ! Someone volunteers - that's who gets the card. The number of cards allowed for each person is limited partly so as to minimise the ones someone who hates that person's work won't like.

What IS a collaborative deck ? Is it one where we all submit cards and then the organisers get to say Nope, not that one ? Do we showcase them and offer to can those that get the thumbs down from - how many people ? Contributors only ? People who do wonderful art ? what would be the criterion ?

I don't like all the cards. Big deal. I didn't in other years either. I assume there are people here who don't like mine. That's OK too. I was part of a project within a community, is all.

But I don't love you all. I will say that. You didn't stick to the freaking timetable. :ww For that I could cheerfully murder several of you.

But it's all over now. I wait mine with interest.

Hullo Janet.

I hope you will not leave the entire forum because of one person's comment that upset you.
I was thoroughly insulted by someone on the first collaborative.
So while I probably won't do another one because of that, I am still fairly active on the rest of the forum.
I hope you'll reconsider.

I second that (and all {or most of...} the above from gregory and Marcia). The TCF Tarot is my Must Have Tarot every year - it wouldn't be the same without your contribution.

Marcia, you know this would be a CRIME, and no one would expect you to dispose of them in that way! (Not that I really think you're serious.)

Perhaps we should make a plan re. the extra decks and and set up a poll or something...?

In previous years the contributors could buy extra copies but NO-ONE else. So they don't end up on ebay.

Is there any logical reason why the leftover decks shouldn't be auctioned on ebay or offered on Aeclectic's Trading Forum? It would help defray costs... Marcia certainly shouldn't be out of pocket.

Yes. It has always been the deal that they were for contributors only. This was hashed out in a long discussion when we did the first one.

If they were going to be up on ebay by people out to make a quick buck - well, I, for one, would not join in again.

I doubt if Marcia will be out of pocket - as far as I know we have always managed to sell them off among ourselves - though Sherry may now tell me otherwise.

Here's my list, which may be imperfect if I have not been able to match your real name and mailing address with your screenname here. SoulYogurt declined the opportunity to purchase the deck.  As far as I know I have sent messages to everyone and have two people who have paid and have been mailed their deck whose screennames I cannot identify.  If you wouldn't mind, could you assist me and if you see your identity here twice, please let me know through a PM.  If you do no plan to purchase your deck, could you please let me know?  Smoochies.

Now that I am calm (at least calmer) than the last time I posted, I'd like to thank everyone who asked me to stay in the group, a group that I very much enjoy being a part of.  And I will stay in, because I would have been "cutting off my nose to spite my face" if I had left.

When other people have written that they were also insulted by other members, I wonder what has happened to good manners and consideration to others? This forum is a microcosm of the macrocosm, and I'm noticing out there in the world, people have less patience and tolerance then they used to. I've observed they are ending relationships and situations, sometimes very abruptly. Some of that is due to the harsh planetary patterns in the sky, and some of it is due to the uncertainty of the future and the extra stress most people are under these days, IMHO.

We can and should all make our points and express our feelings. I have no problem with Kimber not liking my card. But with a little extra thought, hopefully we can make our points tactfully and without shaming, blaming, or insulting anyone. That is my wish for us at the Tarot Collectors Forum. After all, there are enough people who don't like (or are afraid of) tarot cards out there, that we should all stick together and be supportive of each other in here. :D

 My three pentacles...

Hmmmm. They could still end up on ebay if those contributors (or any of us for that matter) decided to sell a copy.

I remember that in the past, I think with the TCF2 deck, we first did an inventory of who wanted to buy the deck from the contributors. That way, nobody would be out of pocket. Or is that not possible for another reason. I do think it should not be mandatory to buy one if you contribute. If it would be, then maybe some people would not take part and that would be a pity.:kt

Looking forward to seeing the deck! :ce

No you shouldn't be obliged to buy one. But we did also agree that non-contributors - except Adam and the Museo - couldn't, but contributors could buy extras if they liked.

I admit to skipping that step of asking who wanted to buy before we ordered, hence my willingness to take on the expense of my mistake.  Contributors are NOT obligated to purchase a deck.  It is optional.

I just want to make sure everyone gets one who wants one.

Ok, I just wanted to clear that up really. Maybe next time, we should first make an inventory. Last year, I think Skad1 also didn't.

And I agree, non-contributors (except Museo and Adam), shouldn't be able to buy them. But I do think it would be a pity for Marcia to be out of pocket. I remember getting an extra copy of the TCF2, which was very nice.

Thanks, I was feeling the pressure of holding up the schedule and rushed to get our print numbers. Seriously, no cats will starve if I pay for a few decks!  But I will offer the extras for sale to contributors.

I have to say, I didn't expect it to get here so fast. But it was. And it is absolutely great. The borders do give the whole deck some coherency that is just wonderful. I am just very happy with it. :hp

I got mine and love them!  Guess I didn't get my descriptions of my cards in on time.  Too bad - they don't make any sense otherwise.  That'll remind me not to wait till the last minute next time!

Thanks again for all the hard work to those who had their hands in the collecting and publishing of these decks.

Yes, there are penalties for being late.  I, for instance, am now on gregory's hit list.  We used to be friends, so there you have it. But I'm still in for doing this again in 2012!

What emails, gregory dear?  Did I make ALL of you crazy?  Shall I bow out of helping you and skad1?  I know I'm a mixed bag of reliability but I do like to show I come through in the end...which for those of you who think I somehow slaved away on this for months on end like skad1 and gregory did, I most certainly did NOT.  I played hooky most of the year and gave everyone high blood pressure.  I just want to be up front with my atrociousness (and gregory's probably well-placed motive for her hit list).

I draw the Ace of Cups for all of you who feel hurt, abandoned, insulted, less-than-perfect, not up to par, merely human or just not extraordinary.  ALL of you.

And I draw the Ace of Cups for all of you who wish the rest of us were perfect and you noticed, to your dismay, that we are not.

I draw the Ace of Cups for all of you who have expressed yourselves in innocence, annoyance, a fit of pique, anger, jest or good will.

I draw the Ace of Cups for all who might lurk and be intimidated by the noisy people like me, who are noisy by nature.

I draw the Ace of Cups for all who wanted to hear a voice from the quiet ones and never did.

Drinks all around, my loves.  We are all here in our many voices. Let us celebrate ourselves and each other.

What a shame - there isn't one !

Hullo Janet.

I hope you will not leave the entire forum because of one person's comment that upset you.
I was thoroughly insulted by someone on the first collaborative.
So while I probably won't do another one because of that, I am still fairly active on the rest of the forum.
I hope you'll reconsider.

I believe that member was me. :f

Assuming it was - it was the result of a misunderstanding on my part, followed by more misunderstanding all round, and in any event nothing in my post was intended to be an insult - your work is some of the best around, and you know I think so. Assuming I am right, I apologise unreservedly for all that, posted in a moment of GREAT frustration, not that that is an excuse, and will positively grovel if you or anyone else wishes. The deck is poorer for the lack of your art, and we are all the losers. So I also apologise to everyone else for depriving them of it.

If it would bring you back IN, I would cheerfully (well, no, not cheerfully as then I couldn't; HAVE one, but I would !) drop out myself.

I would also add a grovelling smiley or two but they seem to be acting very oddly today - so here is my sorrow, as the best I seem to be able to do... :sd

Ah, no... and there's no 'Add as Friend', either. How unobservant of moi...:D

Still, I don't need buttons to ignore myself...

Now what we really need here is a 'Generate New and Exciting Tarots' button.

Edited to add that this is my 777th post - is that lucky or what...?

Also, re. the insults and misunderstandings, I blame the damned pixels, which seem to change one's original and intended meaning on the sly and cause no end of trouble.

Hi guys, i haven't been getting notifications so i haven't thought to pop over here and comment.

1. each year there seems to be at least one card that that i don't like, or even offends me.  but there are also cards that i think are the bestest ever for that card (this years High Priestess, as an example, or the tower card)  i took this years happy squirrel as Janet saying how happy she is to be a collector and an artist.  you could always draw a mustache on her to disguise her.  ( :? )  but the variety is exactly why were do a collaborative deck, rather than a deck purely by invite, created to be inclusive.  (BTW, this does not mean i didn't like the happy squirrel)

2. every year we have been very specific that decks are to go only to contributors, and that is used as an incentive to contribute.  i am willing to bet eventually decks will show up on ebay or wherever.  collections get dispersed, whether from economic necessity, or a beneficiary not understanding or caring.  but that is different, and not part of what we decided as a group about the initial sales.

3. i never lost money on the 2 years i financed the original deck purchase.  it was close the first year because i didn't know to factor in the decks and shipping for adam and the museu.  but then afew guardian angels chipped in some extra and i was good.  both years there were people who didn't get the deck, but there were always enough that wanted an extra copy to balance them out.  i knew my job was dicey so i chose not to do the financing this year, which turned out good because i did get laid off.

4. do we want to start a 2012 now?  or how about a quick 22 card pre-2012?  are ya'll up to a challenge?  I have an idea for a 22 card deck for the forum, but it'd be a challenge and not thrill a few.  it is a themed deck, but would only work for this forum.  want me to work it up for ya'll?

5. if we do a 22 deck or wait for another 78 card deck, i am willing to do the organization this year.  i needed a break, but then i missed it!  i would need someone to help with the financing, and help emailing would be nice too, but that;'s optional, especially if gregory really does step back

6.  i think special thanks should go out to gregory.  the emails to everyone are really a hassle.  the organization and stuff is easy and fun for me.  i think it was because of her efforts you are getting your decks now, middle of november.  last year the lucky ones got them for Christmas, the unlucky had to wait for the new year.  that is a significant difference,  so thanks sweetie!

final note: after all the good and bad....

WE ROCK !!!!

:ro:gi:ok:ce:ro:tt:ok:tt:ok

THIS IS AN AWSOME DECK THAT I AM REALLY PROUD TO HAVE BEEN A PART OF.  THANK YOU, ONE AND ALL.

Re. the 22 pre-2012, I'm intrigued, but honestly think that one deck a year is enough. I'd probably contribute if 21 others were keen though...

time wise that's the one i meant, do a 'quick' 22 card one, then in feb / mar start the regular 78 card deck.

so

dec 2011 to feb/mar 2012 -'22 card challange deck'

feb/mar 2012 to july 2012 - 78 forum deck where anything goes (sorts, within our regular guidelines)

Hi goldenweb and skad1,
OnePotato didn't really want to interrupt the thread rehashing old news, but I feel there are some things that need clarifying here.

I don't believe "pixels" had much to do with the problem.

For those who weren't around or don't recall, for the 2008 TCF Collaborative deck OnePotato did the deck layout, card back, custom wrappers, supplied the card stock and 6-color inkjet ink, did color correction, printed and cut the decks and wrappers, and covered the shipping costs. (A few people chose to pay an optional $10 for printed card backs.) Blank backed decks were entirely free to participants. He did this so that any artists who wanted to participate could do so without having to consider the financial burden, and would not have to go without a copy of their work.

Of course this involved quite a bit of labor, and quite a bit of time, particularly since it had to be done in between his real life obligations.

Unfortunately our printer suffered a clogged head, and despite his best efforts to soak it in solvent for a few weeks, it ultimately had to be replaced entirely. This was explained on the forum, and OP apologized for the delay.

At one point, Gregory posted a public call to have him fired from the project, and asked if anyone was willing to replace him. She went on to say that he should have been paid in the first place, as then there would be a legal "contract" that he could be held to, and people would feel free to complain about his poor performance without feeling guilty.

When someone else expressed a bit of outrage about this, Gregory went back and edited her post to read like an innocent question about progress on the job, making it sound like she was being unfairly shouted down. (IMHO the whole thing could have been avoided from the outset with a simple PM rather than an attempt at public humiliation.)

Now, I don't see how anyone could characterize this as some sort of innocent "misunderstanding." But since it has been brought up again, I did think at least people should know what the issue was. For what it's worth, OP thinks it should be dropped, and believes the matter should have no bearing on future projects.

It is nice to see an apology after all these years.

Hope that clears up any confusion,
Little Window

Hello Little Window. I was absent from the forum for the creation of the first deck, (coincidentally due to a misunderstanding of a rather flippant and jokey post I made about card creation and Photoshop filters), so have no knowledge of the above. My comment re. pixels was intended generally and from my own experience rather than specifically.

Back to the annoyingly upbeat:  Arnell, Morwenna and blistersnbutterflies, your 2011 Collaborative Decks were mailed today!  I'll update that spreadsheet when I get to my other computer.

With respect, while I accept FULL responsibility for OP's hurt, and stand fully by my apology (and I did actually send one by PM at the time, though I found out MUCH later that several PMs I had sent via this forum (and AT, actually) never made it - I was at that time on VERY poor dialup) I didn't call for him to be FIRED, as in make him go away like people are given the sack - I suggested (ineptly) that someone else take over. At the time, it seemed that the printer was going to take forever to repair, and I thought that was a reasonable suggestion which would take the pressure off him. I edited my admittedly very tetchy post when I realised this had been very badly misunderstood, and also to prevent anyone else seeing it once I knew more about the issue... (I did want him paid, though. I ALWAYS wanted him paid - for his WORK, though.)

By the time I'd found out about the missing PMs - and I didn't actually know exactly which had gone AWOL; there were about 40 between the two forums, in total ! - I honestly thought he knew I was sorry and had taken it all back. Honestly I did.....:cs I still grovel unreservedly, and everyone may still hit me.

Peace to all and that.

Back to business - I now have FOUR missing in action packages from the US and this is (as far as I know) one of them...

I am not ordering ANYTHING else from the US till they show up. :sd

ETA I take THAT back ! OUR DECK has just shown up (delivered to a neighbour. It looks GREAT !) Three missing ones to go....

I just mailed Sacredashes' deck today!  Hooray!  If you contributed and still want your deck, it's not too late.

Also, I would like to thank one of our contributors who very generously paid for a deck for another contributor. The deck has been delivered to the mystery participant although they may not have seen it yet.

I want to wait until January 15 or so before I put the left over decks up for sale, just to give people a chance to order theirs if they have not yet done so.

Blessings of the solstice, the Yule, Christmas, the end of the fiscal year and anything else you may celebrate with my profound apologies for having left you out.  I just love tarot!

OK, did everyone get a deck who wanted to purchase one (contributors only, per Da Rools)?
