You know, if we're going to discuss playing cards (which I'm all for, but in the end it's Adam's call, as it's his sandbox), perhaps we can ask Adam to establish another sub-forum for it. Otherwise this could become a huge thread, making it difficult to follow simultaneous discussions about different decks.

If I understand the organization of the board correctly, Adam could create a new Category, called for instance, "Non Tarot" or something like that and could then populate it with any number of forums (e.g., Playing Cards, Fortune Telling and Oracle Cards, etc.).
That way, we could have our discussions and the Tarot-only folks could easily avoid the neighborhood altogether.

I never thought, just let my enthusiasm go. No problem if he wants to delete the threads because theyare not tarot related.
I guess about 2/3 of my collection is non-tarot, so it's probably not pertinent to the board.
Yikes, guess I should have asked. Sorry Adam--put sandbox back the way it was if you prefer.
You're going to miss out on Le Jeu de Cartes des Croisades discussion though. Heart wrenching thought that.

Thanks for moving us...I'm relatively new to forums of any type, whereas I find myself easily sidetracked to follow wherever a thread leads.
Have you gone to this link at mxat.ru that displays all the Dussere decks as thumbnails on the one page which then link to the whole deck

Where do you buy your French decks? Are they spendy? I've never bought playing card decks per se, because until recently I thought all 54 card decks had the number cards as numbers only, and didn't sport pictures, too. I found out different and I love beautiful pictures, which is why I buy tarot decks (almost exclusively the decks that have individual pictures on all 78 cards. I presently have 88 decks I've been collecting since 1978. Anyway, at http://mxat.ru, the WWPCM site I was on the page of Lo Scarabeo (Italian publisher) and it turns out they have all manner of 54 card decks with pictures on all the cards. Like I mentioned previously, there's a gorgeous one of Medieval clothing and the British Royal deck includes all the British monarchs with their dates of rule on the card. Yeah, I was looking at some of those scans today to cement my mind about a couple of decks.
I buy my playing cards from Somerville usually. He has most popular decks from the big firms as well as tarot and fortune telling decks. The shipping and packing is excellent. He usually has samples from each deck.

I have a couple of the Lo Scarabeo playing cards--Alice in Wonderland, Fables of Fontaine, and one they call the Goethe transformation deck which seems to be another reprint of the Jeanne d'Arc transformation deck from 1805 or so. They are good quality like their tarot cards.
Hey, if you like Dusserre maybe you'd like some transformation decks? Transformation decks are those where the pip symbols are turned into images. Somerville has the Under the Sea deck featured on the front page I believe. Not to confuse you.
I also have the Dusserre cards about Saints and the Chemin de Saint Jacques (in Spanish, the Camino--famous pilgrimage route.)
Today I have ordered playing cards with non-illustrated pips. There were a couple of these I found to be interesting and some of them are patience size so my Tudor Rose deck will have some friends.
The front number is the Somerville catalogue number. If you click on Search you can put the number in and the deck will come up. Some of these facsimile decks are similar to the old stencilled tarot decks, but with odd people that I liked.
10130 - Louis XV
10145 - French Revolution
10147 - Henri IV
12765 - Claude Weisbuch (One Potato--I eventually broke down and nabbed one!)
12449 - The Crusades
13797 - Berliner Slim Card - as wide as patience decks but taller with courts in the Berlin pattern which I don't have in any deck.
The Swedish firm of Offason has some patience decks and English pattern decks printed in 4 colours (green, blue, red, black) for £2 to £2.25 which is about half the price of the bigger companies. I don't know what the card stock is like though.
I had to resist as I don't even have the money for these.

Well Ms. Max, you did it. I went to look at scans of Canadian cards at WWPCM and found a really interesting one published in 1972 and 1994: "Le Jeu de Cartes Québécois."
I can't find anywhere in Quebec online that might carry this or a used copy, but it's one I would be interested in buying--some nice historical figures pertinent to Quebec history on the face cards.
I did a small montage.

I'm ticked, Quid, about your visiting and liking WWPCM.
So you're in Canada? Or England?
I went to playingcardsales and checked them out. They have images of
the various decks and quite generous in size but still only 6-8 images
of tarot decks of 78, still, not bad.
Nice montage, too. I like the cards, as well.
You'll find that WWPCM site really packed full of all kinds of cards from
all over the world.
It's russian based/hosted and the site has changed their server at least
3 times now since I've been using them. Thank God, it's now a lot
in English. The first two servers and website were mostly written in russian
which I don't know a word of.
It would be nice to contact the host of the museum. What a collector they
must be to have so many cards online and at their "museum", I image.
I will write you about your post from the one above today's where you listed
card names from Lo Scarabeo.
Adam's Forum here is so awesome as far as allowing full sized images and
such for viewing. A lot of other forums I've visited are much more restrictive.

I'm in Canada: The place where you can't buy an unusual playing card deck for love or money. That's why I order from Somerville.
I have a collection of 114 tarot decks, but recent ones haven't done much for me so I got interested in beefing up my playing card collection, and I always like to buy new transformation decks if they are published. My card collection is in this thread:

Do you have the deck, Swedish Witch (Jolanda den Tredges), illustrated by Hans Arnold?
I saw the deck at taroteca and fell in love but found out it wasn't available anywhere, even eBay. So I did some detective work and found out that a company in Sweden by name of Fischer was selling the book that goes with the deck. I wrote and asked about the deck itself and got an email back saying this:

Actually, I just updated my list and find I have 261 decks in total. How did that happen? I had a whomping load of oracles and odd things too.
When I had five tarot decks I remember saying to people on a list that I couldn't figure out how people had these big collections.
Someone must have been laughing.
I'm not keen on the Swedish Witch but Stella's is a definite for me, and I'll probably have money by then.
