Put 'em here, partners!

Put your finished or proposed cards here

Please indicate which card it is.

What the heck, squee to your hearts' content!  I won't stand to be the wet blanket and hold back feedback.

OK, I know you guys will think I'm insane (again) but I've had this 9 of Wands brewing in my brrrrain for a while.

oooh! That's nice! I love his expression!

Here is a Knight of Cups.

It's a sketch that got out of hand.

And I don't know if I like it or if I am doing another version.

Both are so nice!  They are giving me inspiration and getting the deck off to a great start.

Good job so far! I like the sea breeze feel of the knight of cups and the quirky vintage oddness of the 9 of wands. :)

Here's my Sun card. It's... different from my other works, but well, I like how it turned out. And yes, that figure's me (after several photoshop filters).

OK. Here's one of my ideas for the Page of Cups: "Skin Deep"

First of all, I wasn't sure about nudity, so I have positioned the figure to not be revealing - however, the other figures are nude in that they aren't wearing any skin. If that's a no-no, let me know and I'll go for my other idea. Also, if I do go with this idea, I haven't decided on which postwork to use. If there's any preference, let me know.

Hello Philebus. I like them all - most original and surprising, but perhaps #3 best. I like the canvas background of #2 less than the plain #1.

What's 'postwork'? (perhaps it's the above...?)

Pen

And... Keeping the chat to a minimum as instructed - all very interesting and original so far...:ok

Ok, trying to keep this short & sweet… Marcia that 9 of Wands is adorable and charming. I love it!
How unusual Blue Toy that your Sun is B&W. And yet it is so warm and welcoming; joyous!
Chronata – such a beautiful, dreamy Knight of Cups. The card feels like liquid moods and is very soothing.
And Philebus, I agree with Goldenweb re: your Page of Cups. I love the 3rd version the best. More  texture, attraction…very visceral. Such gorgeous cards so far. So exciting.

Here is my Queen of Coins, which in case you wonder, is my Mom (I wish I had gotten some of the good traits of that card from her…) And the background is the castle that I will be staying with some Tarot friends this Autumn in Tuscany. The Queen of Coins card she holds is from one of my decks. She knows her power...plays her hand well.

By the way - I think maybe it was a mistake not allowing squee stuff... people are getting depressed. Can we have a squee thread, Marcia ???

Yes, I think you should.  Even tho I didn't comment a whole lot, I enjoyed reading them.  And I liked the feedback on mine.

HEY... I just noticed; YOURS says attachment; the ones that show say attached image. So I tested - and if you try to just save it, it says it is a php image. I have just saved it as a jpg. Let's see here....

Nope - I think it may be the pixel dimensions... just a sec - the info says it is scaled....

YES ! Just too BIG in pixels, sweety !

The cups look much better now.  Very nice.  Love the Seven of Pentacles, too.  You can see the waiting to harvest the seven growing things, not the waiting to take the seven sparkly gold baubles off the Christmas tree.

My cards were going as attachments until I sized them down, not just in resolution but in actual size.

No dog theme, it just happened that way.  My 5 of cups is very different.  If I go the way I thought, the more I worl it, the more I am not sure about it.

To be honest I can't stand it.

I'm going to try something else, if I have the time.

The idea is sound. I was going for a combination of the RWS card and the Thoth meaning.

Some of them plants are dying, he can do something about it, or not, it's up to him.

I just can't stand how it looks.

Ah well.

Naw, that's not what I thought.  I am used to replies jumping other entries, and I usually cross my eyes and try to figure it out, and if it doesn't make sense...shrug my shoulders and go on.  I assume it makes sense to someone.

It's hard to remember that there was a positive goal when the sorrow becomes overwhelming.
The Rider-Waite keywords=Disappointment, Sorrow, Obsession, Remorse, emotional regret.

Hello :-)

Hello and welcome! You know with a name like Laminate1, I'm sure you could come up with something, but I think all the cards are spoken for this year. Next year perhaps?

What a wonderfully strange effect the Hermit card  has - cover the top part and the deep blue is an infinity of night sky, reveal the top and it becomes a fathomless sky-pool...:ro

Do please have another...

Quarkling, we'd love to have more of your work in this deck!  Your Hermit shows the enormity of the task of the inner search, that it is not to be skipped over lightly.

A very intruiging Hermit, Quarkling! The sky of stars changing into a lake. I really like it! :ok Makes me think!

I so need to start on my cards. I already know what I want to do, but to get started is the hard part....:f:v

Wow, these cards all look fantastic!  :ok I have been thinking about whether to go w/ a CG approach or to TRY some hand-drawing or possibly collage effects...so many decisions to make.  Heck, I may do all three, since I've got three cards to do.  Or...hmmm.... possibly all three styles on EACH card??...no, probably not a good idea.

No worries, though; the title card will hopefully retain some class and sophistication...:hp

Hi, remember when you post, you also need to send me the high resolution versions of your cards.  And don't forget to do your LWB entries.  You don't have the be poet laureate; just tell us about yourself and your cards.  If you have a reason your image meant that card to you, that's a good way to describe it.  So exciting to see the cards getting posted.

I'll be putting up The List of what I have from whom sometime next week, so hear the clarion call, gang!  Post those pictures, send me the hi res, put in your LWB section and head towards Fulfillment.

Or gregory will come and get you.  You know she will, too.

Marcia -

I already posted the card definitions, and my bio. I wasn't aware that we needed to send you the images too, so I will do that right now. I don't know about high res - I will send you what I have.

They need to be at  LEAST 300 dpi and ideally 4 inches by 6.

The images are, I believe, at least 300 dpi. I had the images done in the smaller format, because that is what I thought was wanted. I will send what I have.

It's low resolution to show us the cards here.  But it's high resolution (4"x6" with at least 300 dpi) to send to me for the actual deck.

The difference is that the website can handle only tiny pictures.  But for the deck itself we need the larger high resolution versions so we can get that crisp detail of your design in print.

Thanks!

Gregory -

I have to apologise profusely! I am unable to scale the pics I am using to the right format. This was not a project that I should have chosen to become involved in, as I have no artistic skills, and minimal technical skills. I was originally going to do collage, but that didn't work for me either.

I would appreciate it if you would reassign my cards (High Priestess, Ten of Swords and Ten of Pentacles) to another person.

Blessings,
Bonnie

Oh no, Bonnie, please don't give up, for a very few bucks any decent-sized copy shop--the standard chains and probably the local guys too--can scan them for you at the right resolution, put it on a thumbdrive and/or e-mail it to you!

I agree! The cats must stay :kt.

Maybe this is an idea. Crystalgate, you said you used photographs. Maybe you can have the original photographs scanned at a copyshop or a photographer for the right resolution and size. I did the same with a picture that I had and liked and had no negative of. It should work fine.

Bonnie has agreed not to give up completely if I can work this out without a lot of trouble.  More soon.

(your meditation today is The Star:  the star seems really far away, but, darn it, if it did all that work to get its twinkle to you, you could at least have a teaspoon of faith!  Did I say that with my outside voice??)

The actual sizes are alittle different.  Sorry to add alittle confusion to the mix, BUT......

The actual card is 3 x 4.5 inches with a border, leaving 2.5 x 3.75 in design area. That the ACTUAL SIZE that will be  printed.  To maximize quality we've recommnded doing the design at twice the size.  That would have a design area of 5 x 7.5 in design area.

Now if you set your new design up in pixels rather than inches, the preferred size is 1500 x 2250 pixels (5 x 7.5 inches times 300 pixels per inch)

If you are intersted, that makes it a 1 to a 1.5 ratio in width vs height.  In other words, for every inch in the horizontal, the design is 1.5 inch in the vertical.

It really is perfect.  And I can believe a cat thinking she is the the High Priestess.  I love cats, I've had a cat who couldn't understand why anybody would want to be anything other than a cat!  At the time my other kitty (the one who looked like my avatar) kinda suspected he was a person.

Gregory just was just worried with all the dogs I kept doing.  :cs

Corel Photo Paint 7. I've used it for the last eleven years, which is ancient in computer terms, but it still has depths to discover.

Hi Everyone,
I sure am enjoying viewing everyone's cool imagery for this deck and the comments shared. It is a great pleasure to be a part of this collaborative with you all!!
I kind of hurt my back being (obsessively) on the computer too much so must curtail my time for a wee bit, but did want to share my 2nd card: XXI World. Hope it will work for the deck...have been sensing Gaia's wrath (on humanity) a tad more than usual lately and so that came thru in this World card. Here is the write-up while its still fresh in my head.

XXI The World
The World encompasses our everything; food, shelter, body, mind & heart; our existence resides on this little blue ball. Our World is the primal mother Gaia and it sure feels like lately she is getting fed up with abuses of the laws of nature and is wrecking havoc on us. In this card, Gaia appears beautiful, timeless and fit to kick some serious butt. A snake; (symbolic of ancient Goddess culture and the life/death/rebirth cycle) is coiled like a whip, ready to strike. In Gaia’s other hand she holds earth (fuse lit), while a primitive creature grabs for it. The ancient Roman column represents Democracy while a more modern looking column refers to its evil offshoot Capitalism; which most often is in direct opposition to our role as guardians of the World. Our collective greed and lack of foresight may be a ticking time bomb. In the background a Twilight Zone vortex swallows up our sense of time and space and the pathway leads off to nothingness.

Thanks, I'm sure looking forward to seeing all the cards as the deck evolves. So exciting! Xo

June 30th was decided upon at the start. If we extend it will be like every other year and people will just start assuming that come June it will move to August and so on.

Three of Swords.  Greatly compressed.

Really, I hate it.  But a combination of crap software and crap ability result in a crap card.

So I haven't sent the high-rez copy along yet, as I may just dump the whole thing and try again.

Silly thought here, but I think that this would work if you super-imposed the heart over the figure. :ro

Thanks for the suggestion, Bonnie.  I am thinking about that heart, without having it look like an Ace of Hearts in a playing card deck :?

Still thinking ...

Anyway, here's the Three of Cups.  I'm enjoying the photography models as we speak :ok  It's only ginger ale, unfortunately, but they do call Schweppes "the champagne of ginger ales".  I should have added grapes, too, but nobody in our house really eats them so I couldn't justify the purchase.

Here is my first draft at a title card. I have a problem with randomly crashing graphics software and may need help resizing my high resolution version from someone... Meanwhile, can I have a vote on whether I need to add an apostrophe to the word "Collectors", and whether there is an objection to using a collage of last year's cards as "fill" for the graphic below?

Here is draft (or final, perhaps) of my 4 of Cups. I took the photograph while walking in a park which is just full of fantastic, unique sculptures. I thought the flat metal tree was perfect for a mood of cool detachment.

And finally, my version of the 9 of swords. The photograph of the castle you see in the background of the little girl's bed was taken on a vacation several years ago. Although it certainly wasn't a frightening castle in the daytime, I'm hoping it evokes a bit of a shivery mood in the context of the card. I was a bit hesitant to keep the image so prominent of the "angel" in the graphic... does that offend anyone? If so, I can obscure the wings, or face or make other adjustments to just highlight the little girl's sense of worry without focusing on what might be causing it.

Keeping with the grey tones in the title card, here's a back and border sample.  They are both low res, so the final version will look alot better.

I had to go back and grab acouple more cards just to look at.  The text is wrong, but these are samples and it'll be ok in final version (I hope)

The size of the fruit was off, I had to cut off on the sides to fit.  Make sure your dimensions or proportions are ok, or they'll be edited to fit.

Whoops ... probably my math.  I had thought it was right ... :cs

1:1.5 = 2:3 = 4:6.  That was what I tried to go with.  Mentioned as much to Marcia when I sent the high-rez, but never heard back from her.

Sigh.  Back to the drawing board.  :f

Okay ... try this, and I'll send the new one to Marcia as well.

I like the back a lot; the small acronym repeated over and over is really clean and contemporary and is a perfect complement to the color scheme and "mood" of the title card! And....drumroll....added bonus of reversibility!!! Pure genius!!!

Given that the borders are gray, and have multiple lines, to me they look a tad Thoth-ish (IMHO). That's not a criticism, but an observation. :hp

I absolutely DO like the design; it's creative and crisp; but I'm wondering if there would be a way to keep them clean, but un-Thoth them a bit more. I definitely see and really like the unique treatment of the corners, and the change from one to several lines as the lines go from horizontal to vertical. None of that is Thoth-like at all, so I'm not sure what I'm seeing. What does the group think about black lines in the same pattern as the gray sample? Too harsh? How about rounding the border corners? :hp

Since 2008, the TCF Collaborative deck has been open to all styles of tarot, whether TdM, Thoth, Rider-Waite-Smith, or any other style. As long as the design is cohesive, I'm happy.Variety is the spice of life!

I'm not a fan of borders for a deck like this.  Borders take away space--without them the images can be bigger.  Uniform titles and numbers are enough to tie the cards together.  Last year's came out great--can we use the same template?

The backs have been the same since 2008, designed by OnePotato, it's a nice touch to have the same backs in different colors.

I have been playing with the borders alittle more, and need to adjust acouple more things, but is this less tothie?

The cards will have rounded corcers, they do that at the printers.

I really like having a border.  It ties all the many types of cards together into a cohesive deck.  Without the border, it's just a bunch of cards, with a boder, it's a unit.  by using OnePotato's back, it ties in all the decks done on this forum.

I've often thought it might have been nice to have had exacly the same back and border every year, so that you could make up different decks from an ever increasing pool of cards.
But it's too late now...

However I do "like" this new border :ok

Thanks for letting me know the backs have always had the same design year to year; I agree that's a nice tie-in!

I like your tweaks to the borders! From what I can tell in the photos it looks like you darkened gray value of the lines just a bit so you could fade towards the ends. Also, I like that the font is more prominent, which in this collaborative type of deck is really helpful.

I like the borders. I like the second version more then the first. You did a great job tweaking them:ok. In my opinion having the darker outer line, enhances the images of the cards. As far as I can see right now in any case. :cl

And of course the backs should be the design of One-Potato. I think the work you did looks great, Skad1. I like the grey backs, it fits with the title card.

Ah, such wonderful cards. Really, everyone is doing a great job! I love it!

Pen, your Strength literally blew me away. I absolutely ADORE it!:ro

I have a version of my Empress ready, but it is not the one I really wanted to make. So hopefully I will be able to find the time in the next two weeks to make the one I really wanted. I am just too darn busy... grrr:ww:z

Thanks for the lovely words, people. I really appreciate the diversity of our TCF decks, and somehow 'knowing' the creators of the individual images a little makes them extra special. Really looking forward to holding the finished cards... :D

anyone know how we are doing on number of cards submitted?  it looks to me like there might be quite alot out yet.

Yippie... I finished my Empress :ce:ce:ce

She turned out very much like I had in my mind all along, so I am happy with it.  I am gonna keep the other Empress I made for maybe another deck one day, but this one is the vision I really wanted to share and that had been haunting my thoughts for two years now. I hope you all like her.

She is the Mother, and She is also the Earth, pregnant with life in all it's forms. In other words, She is the Earth Goddess herself.

I told my spouse I had to finish a collaborative Fool card for a forum tarot.

What's the theme? he asks
Well..no theme really...it's a tarot collector's Fool.

Well, isn't that a bit redundant? he said

And so...this image of the Tarot Collector Fool was born.

Man, I hate it when you type and type  and type, then attach your attachment, and it's too big, and you lose all that typing.  Especially if you can't remember what you said.  :f:f:f

Anyhou, this is a list of the high resolution cards I have to date.  I haven't looked at them yet, so there may be questions later.  If you aren't on the list, go ahead and send it over to me.  Marcia is going to be really busy for the next month, so she may not repond right away.  Plus I am going to be on vacation for the next couple weeks, so I won't be checking in too often either, so the list will probably only be updated weekly.  (Yes, we are ignoring you, yes you!  :cl:hp:D)

My email is sherrykadrmas(at)gmail(dot)com

For those of you in the states have a great holiday, for the rest of you, have a great!

I have actually taken off a half day tomorrow morning so I can be up all night finishing my card. This is the first attempt which has been making me so psycho ... I have no idea how to use all the photoshop stuff to turn things and make dimension... of course I could read the manual but ...

so this is most likely not the final image... my daughter promised to help me with the  alternate version of the stack of cards...just thought I would post where I was so far so y'all know I have been working on it...

Well, I hope it's okay with everyone if I take till Sat morning (July 2) to get my 7 of Swords, and LWB entry in. I've got to go to bed and get up for one more day of work. Then tomorrow night I will clean up the card and email to you skad1 instead of to Marsha. Sorry for draggin butt across the finish line, but I'll get it in for sure

Oh, I know exactly what you mean!!! That is so frustrating. :v:ww

I sometimes just make sure I copy and paste my text to a txt file until I send the post, because it has happened to me so often. At least then I have a backup.

Anyway, I saw on the chart that you don't have hi-res versions of my 2 of pentacles and 2 of swords. I did send them to Marcia, but I will send them to you directly. So I will be filling up your mailbox.. better check it before you go away on holiday. :cl

I sent the high resolution cards for the Hermit and Nine of Pentacles to you on the 28th of June. If you do not have them, let me know so that I can re-send them.

Hi I sent the high res images of my cards World and Queen of Coins and the text to you back in April so I should be in the clear... but last time I looked at the chart it does not mention that they were received (tho I do have an e-mail confirmation from back then). Please let me know if you want me to re-send anything or everything.... I don't mind at all but they should be lurking in some dark corner and so I don't want to waste your time/space if not needed. Thanks again, this was great fun to be a part of and even tho this time around I didn't get much chance to mention how much I enjoyed seeing all the wonderful art, I really did!! It was a real pleasure...

THE STAR. At a specific time, the brightest star beams down from the heavens, alchemically blending its light into the earthly waters. Water, earth and sky become one.

The Star...and here is a lighter version. pls select whichever works(last years deck printed a little dark).

suggestion: if printer is willing, it may be beneficial to proof one or two of the darker cards. color, saturation, brightness and contrast can be based on the proofs.

I think I prefer the lighter version. It just gives more of a feeling of light from the Star as well. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

...good, i think lighter also. doesn't show much difference on my screen, but i did thin out the 2nd image quite a bit in photoshop.

images can get denser and darker when they actually go to print.

so this is most likely not the final image... my daughter promised to help me with the  alternate version of the stack of cards...just thought I would post where I was so far so y'all know I have been working on it...

Hi Skad1,
No problemo - I've just sent you my two cards as high res files. Please let me know if you want them in another format (such as tif files) or anything. Thanks so much for everything you've been doing to make this collab deck such a wonderful experience. And I'm getting such a kick out of seeing everyone's fabulous artwork. This is going to be such a special deck...
Have a great weekend,

Thanx for the compliments truelighth - Since I foolishly waited until the very last moment to get moving on these three cards, I really had to go to extremes to come up with something :f
I see so many members put a lot of time and effort into their art. Posting my third card 1 week and a half after the deadline was cheating. But, I did suffer !

This is a current list of the high resolution cards I have to date.  If you aren't on the list, go ahead and send it over to me. Yeah, I know, again.....

My email is sherrykadrmas(at)gmail(dot)com

Remember, if you haven't sent me the high resolution card, it ain't done yet!!

Stats:  of the 80 cards, 65 have uploaded to forum, but I only have 36 of the high res.  15 people haven't turned in anything at all.

So, now I turn it back over to the people who are managing this deck.  Nagging emails to follow (I hope, gotta light some fires under some people!)

edited to add:
I just got 2 more cards from Quarkling, so the total is up to 38.

What is the resolution? My hires files are massive, I could optimize them for the size you need so they don't take up quite as much memory.

4 inches by 6.

Or similar in centy metres. As in a ratio of one to one and a half.

OK - I have sent emails to everyone who hasn't sent in hi-res cards... But look people - we are FAMOUS. See that swing display case, at the top ? That is our deck from 2009. People pay TEN EUROS to go in and see it ! (2010 is there too...) They look FABULOUS, they really do.

We can expect this one to be on display too - IF WE EVER FINISH IT..... GET TO IT, my loves.

I have to say, I am going RIGHT OFF EVER DOING ANOTHER here....

I know on line caps are shouting. I am shouting, OK ??? :cl

OK and NOW - about the LWB. Many have posted their "bits."

We want an LWB (even if it is an on line one to save print costs) as not having one would be unfair to those who have taken the trouble to do that.

So it's name and shame time.

Would the following people please pull out their collective finger and post LWB bits.

acucent (done)
AprilFool (done)
Lillie (done)
Quarkling (done)
wvzookeeper (done)
mr la-luna (done)
nicole (done)

BlueToy

crinwil
hoo
Marcia959 (yes, I know. Shocking innit !)
soulyogurt
Palestrina

There will be PMs soon. Followed by emails. And I'm not sure, but my PERSONAL inclination is to put "couldn't be arsed" in the book next to the cards done by defaulters.... but I think I will be overruled on that one....

If I have named anyone who has in fact posted - you may now have the joy of hitting me right back. And if you can see anyone who isn't listed, tell me and I will hit them too. :ww:ww

RIGHT. I have emailed everyone I had emails for about missing LWB notes, and PMd the others. And to my shame I emailed Quarkling, as I copied the list from Sherry's email.

OOPS. Self flagellates. :n:cc
Earlier post updated to reflect the people who promptly responded !

Thank you.:ce

I am permitted to quote our resident sinner, the lovely Marcia959, with her "excuse"

I have this little thing called a job I have to tend to that pays for the house, the food, etc. However, I will right this horrible wrong quickly. You may quote me.

I wish to point out that most of those who have turned their stuff in could say the same....

Absolutely gorgeous. How the two cards come together. I love it!!! :ro

I also notice the art is a bit different from your usual cards (from the Dairy). More like half of a sketch here and there, but it works wonderful. And the radiating beams all the way over the cards... yep, definately love it!:ok:bl

Ash glad to see your posts and your work here again. Spectacular atmospherics as always. It's about time somebody put a sexy bat-winged Death Rocker cocktail waitress in the Tarot !

There's been a lot of posts since I last got to check this thread. I love all the different styles in this deck ! People your artwork is wonderful and magical.

OK, the Prodigal Organizer is back with all her excuses intact and here just to keep you folks excited about this (and not about her poor excuses), ANNOUNCING: we are just about ready to get the decks printed.

Will be sending payment information very soon, hopefully this week after I make an itty bitty confirmation.

Payment will be made via PayPal to morganmm@aol.com.  Exact amounts coming soon.  IF YOU CANNOT MAKE PAYMENT BY PAYPAL, please send the excuse from your doctor to gregory who collects such things and explain to me via private (and discreet) message what your idea is about making Other Arrangements.

I love you all.
