Am really interested in getting Infinite Visions deck, but couldn't afford.  Emailed designer and she said she will be selling sheets of the cards that then just have to be cut apart and corners rounded.  The difference is 90 (for her to do cutting) or 30 (for sheets that need cutting and corners rounded).   Just wondering, would any of you get sheets over already cut deck?  Have you heard of other artists/designers doing this?

Hi luneblanc,

I've been eyeing that deck myself, but like you funds are limited. I don't think I am willing to try cutting the deck out myself, I know myself too well to believe I could get all 78 cards cut evenly without damaging a couple along the way. I don't have access to a paper cutter so it would have to be by hand, with a pair of scissors. I guess you can buy little gizmos to round the corners. With the popularity of scrapbooking I understand those things can be found in crafts stores. As you may have guessed, I'm not a crafty-type person ;) I'm sure other people would be happy to take a chance on cutting the deck themselves. I'm just not one of them.

I don't know of any other deck creators who have done a similar thing.

Thanks, Sebille.  She suggested I take to a print shop to have done.  She also mentioned something about her cutting outside and would then just have to cut cards apart.  I would really like this deck, and if I can find a print shop that would cut and round corners for a small sum, would be worth it to have.  Just an fyi, I asked if someone would be handling (like Amazon) so she could sell on more of a mass scale (hence bringing price down) but she said she wasn't interested in that.  That's when she told me she was planning on selling sheets.  I'm calling print shops near me tomorrow and see what that would run.  If it's maybe 10-20, I'd seriously think about it, but more than that.....I'm not a crafts person either (I put presents in gift bags so I don't have to wrap them if that give you an idea!).  I actually thought of using manicure scissors!:cl  If I could get her to cut one, maybe I could follow that in cutting, but decks to me have to be pretty perfect.  It would ruin it for me if the deck was "off".   It is a cool deck though!

Forget the manicure scissors.  Little corner rounder "punches", available in crafts stores and perhaps stationary shops, cost only a few dollars and are easy enough to use.

Thank you, Debra!  I really want these cards and don't want to spend an extra 60 just getting them cut. :f

I got an uncut one when she was first offering them, months ago - then she stopped. Cutting it was easy enough - but I have never had any success with corner rounders (I have a classy one I got from Gail Kettleson, who used it for ages for her own decks  so if anything it SHOULD have worked, but...!) on laminated stock - so I just left the corners square.

It worked very well. A very usable deck.

Thanks, Gregory!  I'm so happy you are such a fount of info.  You obviously know your cards and that's exactly what I was hoping for here, lots of info on so much I don't know.  If I get the deck, I don't think I would mind not rounding corners.  Of course, my cutting skills aren't that great and I thought about having a print shop just take a minute to do for me.  I would hate to mess one up.

I'd do it yourself if I were you. There is at least one horror story on Aeclectic from someone that too a deck to professionals to have it cut and laminated.... :f

Retain control. It isn't hard. Use sharp scissors.

Another way to cut the sheets would be with an x-acto knofe and a metal ruler.  Depends on what the cutting lines are like.

Thanks, Gregory and Skad.  It would be worth a shot, as I want the deck.  I like the xacto and a ruler idea.  I'm just sooo bad at cutting.  I know, simple thing, but if you could see me wrapping a gift, you'd understand

Don't get me wrong, it's easy to mess up with a x-acto too.  And it's easy to cut yourself too.  If you haven't cut anything this way in awhile, I'd practice first.

I don't know, Skad.  Kind of like giving a two year old a sword to play with!  Some people are just more skilled at this than others.  I may coerce one of my more nimble friends to do for me after hearing the print shop horror story.

The cutting lines on her deck are VERY easy to follow :D I am as cack-handed as they come. Trust me. I cut right through a card with a wheel guillotine once..... (luckily it was one I could reprint !)

Depends on your tolerance for blood.

And who knows, maybe 'blessing' the deck with alittle fo the red stuff may help readings.  Then again, this may just be too gross to deal with.

Skad and Gregory, you're crackin' me up here in the (beautiful, sunny) Arizona desert!  :cl  Thank for letting me know the cards were well-marked, Gregory.  I keep picturing just solid borders and trying to guess.  For 30 plus shipping, I think I will wind up taking my chances, but waiting til I get used to my first deck.   The ones I want next are definitely the new Anna K (IF I can get it), most likely Ananda, the Infinite Visions if I don't wind up taking my fingertips off....

I just emailed her, and she said the cost for the uncut sheets was $40.00 plus 5 for shipping.  She is going to get a link up on her etsy page.

Hmmmm?  I was told 30 + 5 for shipping about a week ago.  45 sounds like a lot for a deck I have to cut myself, particularly when there are other decks out there I like for less.  I may wait and see if someone who has regular cut deck is willing to trade at some point or I can pick up on ebay or amazon.   I don't want a used or open deck, but price seems a little steep.   THANKS FOR UPDATE, SKAD!

Is this not a small limited edition deck?

If so you may be disappointed and wait years till one appears on Ebay. Others
will also be waiting for a copy to turn up so you will probably not be the only bidder on such an auction.

Those who wait for small limited editions to appear at cheap prices are not necessarily adopting a productive strategy.

In fact I cannot see how anyone can sell a hand produced self-published
80 card deck for only $90. I have tried to reduce my costs in order to sell 78 card decks, but just cannot do it. The $45 uncut sheets are indeed a bargain.

I do see your point, Adam.  However, the designer has been in Aeclectic in the last week and from what I'm reading in her posts, I have decided to wait.  I think I found it by just seeing an infinite visions post topic and she had lots to say about what and how she's doing the deck.  It's not a must have for me right now.  I'm more interested in the new upcoming Anna K deck because, well, I just want it!  Decks are so personal, unless someone is just a collector for the money involved and I don't see that as being a primary interest to most here.  Some decks you just feel you have to have and I want the updated Anna K, which I think is close to ready.  I emailed artist and I think she will be putting up more re what's going on with it soon, if anyone else interested.

I didn't see anything anywhere about it being a limited deck.

This is a quote from her website.  " I don't know how long I will continue to make these by hand or how long they will be available. Being handmade, they are not going to be perfect. This project is in its infancy and I am learning as I go. "

Sounds like they are not numbered or signed.

I emailed her at the address on her website, and she replied with the 40 dollar cost.

I agree, Skad.  I read much the same and her answers on Aeclectic were the I'm still working on it, not perfect variety.  If I felt I HAD to have in the near future, would probably get it in the uncut version now.  I'm taking my chances waiting, I doubt the costs will go up any time soon (altho the difference between 30 a week ago and 40 now was interesting, I guess she rethought)  and the quality may just up.

Gregory, you asked who told me 30 plus shipping?   This is directly from an email I got from Gloria Jean on 3/12/10:

I do not plan to have this deck mass produced by a publisher. I am
considering things like a digital file where you can print your own,
and a program where you can do readings on your computer with my deck,
and I am about to offer this deck in an uncut version for $30.00 plus
shipping. ($35.00)

I'm not suggesting not worth the additional money, just saying was a bit of a surprise I finding out ten dollars difference about a week later...

My copy is signed and has the number  10 - 31.
I am not sure if this means it is number 10 of an edition of 31.

It is beautifully produced, cut and corner rounded. Few people
would be able to do anything approaching as good a job
at cutting them out.

People should consider buying the produced deck.

At the speed new decks appear lately, many of them worth having, between $30 for an uncut deck and $90 for a cut deck, I would choose the uncut deck. It's true, I have time and like cutting them. (Corners I do with an ondulated craft scissor Fiskars -diferent sizes according to the size of the cards). And, with the difference in money I would buy another deck (that maybe I wouldn't otherwise). I am not saying I would do this on a regular basis, but

many self publishers make a very limited edition because of the work involved with cutting the cards (ex. Jumbledance). After all they are artists and probably get bored of cutting the cards (I guess). Between not having a deck or getting it as an uncut sheet I would always choose the later.

rylla

(so...running to buy the Infinite Vision uncut sheets)

Edited: also for $90 I would be more picky which decks to buy - which ones worth for me the price - but gladly I would do some of the work myself just to buy than another deck.

Sound advice for people with the extra $60 burning a hole in their pocket.  For the rest of us, the uncut would do just fine.

Rylla, even tho I got an email from designed saying 30 only about a week ago, I now see it's 40, both plus another five for shipping of course.  I'm not saying that much of a difference for those of us who want her deck who don't want to dish out 90, but wish you were in my part of the world.  I would happily pay you to cut my cards!  I'm really hesitant getting an uncut deck when I just messed up cutting something much simpler!  I know the measure twice, cut once thing, but helps if you are one of those better at cutting.  Not as simple as it first sounds, when you know you CAN'T make even a little error.

I am rubbish at things like that - and mine came out OK... :ok

You don't have to measure - it has lines to cut along !

No offense but as much as I don't mind cutting them out for myself I couldn't do it for somebody else (that's why I imagine artists don't really want to do it either) - I guess you do it gladly as part of being passionate about tarot,  because you like the deck (sheets) that you've got and you are eager to see it as a deck, so you have the drive to do it - things money can't buy

Adam's decks are professionally made - and that is not a compliment it's a fact -everyone who brought decks from him knows it - but I've got more than one (I think 3 or 4) self-published decks where the cards were so poorly cut that I actually had to correct/hand-cut a few of them ( so if I would've had to cut them in the first place I could've definitely do as good job as they did)

Well, WAS getting Infinite Visions uncut, but that was when I received an email from Gloria on 3/12 she was getting ready to offer for 30 + 5 shipping.  Now that's it's 45 plus shipping, I'll have to wait a little longer.  Not suggesting this deck is not worth it, but when you're planning on which decks you can afford at the time and have others on your list, well, it made me reconsider for right now.  Hopefully, in the future, if it's still available for a bit longer.....

Wondering if anyone recently got this deck and if anyone knows if there has been any changes in card stock or lamination?  Still thinking about, but votes aren't all in yet.....Nice images, but feel of cards very important to me.

So you like, Rylla?  Was the stock what you thought would be?  I'm asking because I haven't read much re feel or look and lamination can make a big difference re quality.

Thanks,
