I'm looking for any information on a deck I inherited. The top card says "First Edition Publisher's Signed and Numbered Decks / Number 34/100" The numbers are hand written. There are four signatures: Israel Regardie, Robert Wang, Stuart R. Kaplan, and Edwin Nigg. The copyright date is 1977.
The deck is edged in gold and is in a gold-colored box.
Can anybody tell me anything about this deck or what it might be worth? I have not been able to find any information about it.

WORTH, you ask. This is one of those things that I suspect is so rare than you would be looking at a "see what it gets on ebay but put on a decent reserve" situation....
Or contact a dealer. I'll see what I can find out....

Numbered Limited Edition, this being number 11 of 20 copies signed by Israel Regardie, Robert Wang, Stuart Kaplan and Edwin Nigg. The complete set of 78 cards are gilt edged, they were drawn by Robert Wang under the direction of Israel Regardie to, as near as possible, reproduce the original Golden Dawn tarot images Fine in VG Box Order No. 300203 £130
I would have thought that on the low side, to put it mildly.... But if you decide to sell for that - please let me know :)
It was sold from the COIL collection.

Last times I saw one on eBay was august when there where 2 with some time between them they went for:
Price on eBay:
- ?? aug-08 => US $177,50
- 15-aug-08 => US $330,00

My ex-wife and I bought it in Los Angeles in 1978. When we divorced she took the deck. Then when she passed away she left it to me. Back in the 70's and 80's I had quite a respectable collection of Tarot decks, but this is the only one I have left. I am thinking I will probably offer it on eBay.

I searched ebay records a couple years ago and found references to other signed and numbered editions, but I haven't been able to find out anything about this edition. The man I bought it from told me that he had heard that 50 of the copies were destroyed in a warehouse fire. I have no idea if that is true or not. (That was back in the late 70's or early 80's that I was told that.)
I would eventually like to sell it, but I have no idea what it's worth. Over the last 30 years or so I've gotten rid of my tarot collection, all except for this one. My late wife had it, and when she passed away she left it to me. I have no particular reason to keep it, but I want to see it go to a good home.

I would write to Stuart Kaplan. If anyone knows about copies destroyed in a fire, and editions of a deck it would be him. He is usually pretty responsive to queries, or so I have heard.
I would be lean toward the fire story being an urban myth. Tarot deck prices really depend on what you can get for a deck, and who is looking for that particular deck at a particular time.

I recently sold one of these to someone (#78/100) and I had it for quite a while. Though of interest because of the signatures, etc., the deck itself was, I thought, difficult to like very much. Thanks for the reply. I'd pretty much forgotten about that post.
I inherited the deck, and I don't really care for it as a deck to use, and I'm not the kind of person who collects things for the sake of collecting. I'd just as soon see it in the hands of somebody who could really appreciate it. I was mainly curious about what sort of starting price I should put on it in ebay.

Ah! Same here regarding deck affinities. I sold mine for $300 but I liked the fellow who bought it and took about $100 off what I thought I'd get. I would say between $300 and $500. Hope that helps.

I own a copy that I never took out of the plastic wrap it came sealed in. The box is off white with GD emblem stamped on the box top in gold foil. It is numbered #217 of 500 & in mint condition. I have kept the deck all these years in a zip lock bag to keep moistures influence away & stowed in a plain wooden box. Owning a precious artifact such as this has been an honor & joy. When I was much younger, they served as both a conversation piece & trophy. I recieved the deck as a reward from a former mentor for achieving a proper Grade. I do treasure them dearly.
I have wrestled with myself over the years. Was I doing the deck, Order or authors any justice keeping them in a box unused? Perhaps not. No I'm much older and wiser & decided to sell should the opportunity & deserving party present themselves. Perhaps now is the time?
They are priceless too me, but in need of a new home & owner. I will listen to any reasonable offer made, but in this case next owner's character is more important than his or hers money.
