Three of Swords.  Greatly compressed.

Really, I hate it.  But a combination of crap software and crap ability result in a crap card.

So I haven't sent the high-rez copy along yet, as I may just dump the whole thing and try again.

Silly thought here, but I think that this would work if you super-imposed the heart over the figure. :ro

Blessings,

Thanks for the suggestion, Bonnie.  I am thinking about that heart, without having it look like an Ace of Hearts in a playing card deck :?

Still thinking ...

Anyway, here's the Three of Cups.  I'm enjoying the photography models as we speak :ok  It's only ginger ale, unfortunately, but they do call Schweppes "the champagne of ginger ales".  I should have added grapes, too, but nobody in our house really eats them so I couldn't justify the purchase.

Here is my first draft at a title card. I have a problem with randomly crashing graphics software and may need help resizing my high resolution version from someone... Meanwhile, can I have a vote on whether I need to add an apostrophe to the word "Collectors", and whether there is an objection to using a collage of last year's cards as "fill" for the graphic below?

Here is draft (or final, perhaps) of my 4 of Cups. I took the photograph while walking in a park which is just full of fantastic, unique sculptures. I thought the flat metal tree was perfect for a mood of cool detachment.

And finally, my version of the 9 of swords. The photograph of the castle you see in the background of the little girl's bed was taken on a vacation several years ago. Although it certainly wasn't a frightening castle in the daytime, I'm hoping it evokes a bit of a shivery mood in the context of the card. I was a bit hesitant to keep the image so prominent of the "angel" in the graphic... does that offend anyone? If so, I can obscure the wings, or face or make other adjustments to just highlight the little girl's sense of worry without focusing on what might be causing it.

Keeping with the grey tones in the title card, here's a back and border sample.  They are both low res, so the final version will look alot better.

I had to go back and grab acouple more cards just to look at.  The text is wrong, but these are samples and it'll be ok in final version (I hope)

The size of the fruit was off, I had to cut off on the sides to fit.  Make sure your dimensions or proportions are ok, or they'll be edited to fit.

Whoops ... probably my math.  I had thought it was right ... :cs

1:1.5 = 2:3 = 4:6.  That was what I tried to go with.  Mentioned as much to Marcia when I sent the high-rez, but never heard back from her.

Sigh.  Back to the drawing board.  :f

Okay ... try this, and I'll send the new one to Marcia as well.

I like the back a lot; the small acronym repeated over and over is really clean and contemporary and is a perfect complement to the color scheme and "mood" of the title card! And....drumroll....added bonus of reversibility!!! Pure genius!!!

Given that the borders are gray, and have multiple lines, to me they look a tad Thoth-ish (IMHO). That's not a criticism, but an observation. :hp

I absolutely DO like the design; it's creative and crisp; but I'm wondering if there would be a way to keep them clean, but un-Thoth them a bit more. I definitely see and really like the unique treatment of the corners, and the change from one to several lines as the lines go from horizontal to vertical. None of that is Thoth-like at all, so I'm not sure what I'm seeing. What does the group think about black lines in the same pattern as the gray sample? Too harsh? How about rounding the border corners? :hp

Since 2008, the TCF Collaborative deck has been open to all styles of tarot, whether TdM, Thoth, Rider-Waite-Smith, or any other style. As long as the design is cohesive, I'm happy.Variety is the spice of life!

I'm not a fan of borders for a deck like this.  Borders take away space--without them the images can be bigger.  Uniform titles and numbers are enough to tie the cards together.  Last year's came out great--can we use the same template?

The backs have been the same since 2008, designed by OnePotato, it's a nice touch to have the same backs in different colors.

:ok

I have been playing with the borders alittle more, and need to adjust acouple more things, but is this less tothie?

The cards will have rounded corcers, they do that at the printers.

I really like having a border.  It ties all the many types of cards together into a cohesive deck.  Without the border, it's just a bunch of cards, with a boder, it's a unit.  by using OnePotato's back, it ties in all the decks done on this forum.

I've often thought it might have been nice to have had exacly the same back and border every year, so that you could make up different decks from an ever increasing pool of cards.
But it's too late now...

However I do "like" this new border :ok

Thanks for letting me know the backs have always had the same design year to year; I agree that's a nice tie-in!

I like your tweaks to the borders! From what I can tell in the photos it looks like you darkened gray value of the lines just a bit so you could fade towards the ends. Also, I like that the font is more prominent, which in this collaborative type of deck is really helpful.

I like the borders. I like the second version more then the first. You did a great job tweaking them:ok. In my opinion having the darker outer line, enhances the images of the cards. As far as I can see right now in any case. :cl

And of course the backs should be the design of One-Potato. I think the work you did looks great, Skad1. I like the grey backs, it fits with the title card.

Ah, such wonderful cards. Really, everyone is doing a great job! I love it!

Pen, your Strength literally blew me away. I absolutely ADORE it!:ro

I have a version of my Empress ready, but it is not the one I really wanted to make. So hopefully I will be able to find the time in the next two weeks to make the one I really wanted. I am just too darn busy... grrr:ww:z

Thanks for the lovely words, people. I really appreciate the diversity of our TCF decks, and somehow 'knowing' the creators of the individual images a little makes them extra special. Really looking forward to holding the finished cards... :D

Amazing cards, I love them all.  But that Strength is especially awesome, and I love the kitty in the Q of wands.  But then I like kitties...

anyone know how we are doing on number of cards submitted?  it looks to me like there might be quite alot out yet.

Yippie... I finished my Empress :ce:ce:ce

She turned out very much like I had in my mind all along, so I am happy with it.  I am gonna keep the other Empress I made for maybe another deck one day, but this one is the vision I really wanted to share and that had been haunting my thoughts for two years now. I hope you all like her.

She is the Mother, and She is also the Earth, pregnant with life in all it's forms. In other words, She is the Earth Goddess herself.

This is actually the third attempt at finishing this card.
I'm not sure what happened to the other two contenders.

I told my spouse I had to finish a collaborative Fool card for a forum tarot.

What's the theme? he asks
Well..no theme really...it's a tarot collector's Fool.

Well, isn't that a bit redundant? he said

And so...this image of the Tarot Collector Fool was born.
