Did anybody else see this Morgan Greer today on ebay U.S.? I thought it went a bit high and I wondered if there was something about it that I don't know. It looks like an older copy, but there were only two photos and I just didn't see anything that special about it.
Auction # 120967418093
I have seen that page Holly has about the older decks, but I've never seen one go quite this high. Just an ebay fluke?

Lord don't YOU start.... AT is buzzing !!!
There was no box shown; it does not have black borders so is not the VERY first edition, based on Holly's page - so I think it was overpriced, myself.

Thanks, gregory, that's what I thought. But I wondered if I was missing something. You just never know about some key detail

Wow, I can't believe a MG Deck went for that much. I've got two of 'em (boxed), both US Games, but one was printed in Italy, and the cards & deck are in English. The other was printed in Belgium, however those cards and box are in German; it still has the $18 price tag on it, LOL. I'm sure mine are newer print runs tho'

It was listed under Antiquarian and Collectable Books and I suspect the bidders don't know much about the tarot deck scene.

The buyer didn't even list the name of the deck and my thought is that the people who bought it didn't know anything about tarot cards. I agree with Debra.
I have first edition (printing) of the Morgan Greer which was published in 1979 and the second edition with was published in 1983. Both came in boxes and were published by Morgan and Morgan, Inc.

Yes, Thanks, I thought this was an ebay fluke, but wanted to make sure there wasn't some other obscure version out there known only to the initiated.
I have a strange one myself, it has the black bordered cards but it's in the brown box, so it's a first edtion deck, but in a second edition box theoretically. Of course, you just never know when a box or booklet has gotten changed up or if there was an overlap from one to the other at the factory. You can't assume they had just right number of boxes and decks from printing to printing, can you? Makes it tricky to ever know anything for certain.
Why couldn't I have gotten obsessed with rare books? There at least everything is sewed up in one piece!
Oh, the trials and tribulations of the Tarot collector!

A little late getting here, but to add my two cents. According to Kaplan III, those black borders appear on the second edition and were subsequently dropped. So I think they're more rare. Might account for some of it. I didn't see the auction though.

I've often wondered about the publication order. I have four versions; brown box, acqua box, navy blue box and....can't remember (I'm at work). so we beleive the brown box is the earliest edition?

I have the turquoise box Morgan & Morgan....but no booklet with it. It says 1979 Morgan Press on the box, but my deck doesn’t have the black borders. Is it likely the 1983 edition? Does your 1983 edition have 1983 printed on the box?

Hi,
I thought the brown box without borders was the first edition and the second edition had the black borders?
Do I have this backwards?
