Several people have suggested a thread for identifying members' avatars. Well, what the heck. Here's a thread. I hope this is the right place for it.
I think "guessing" is in order, however.

OK.
So how do we go about guessing?
Is there some kind of order involved?
Do people line up to guess?
Or to be guessed?
Or should we just shout out?
And, are there PRIZES...?

Cripes. I hope you're not asking ME.
The answers to all your questions are yes, until something more organized happens. Yes.
I think we should just SHOUT OUT the answers until the Contest Committee is formed.
They might want to specify prizes, too....to be awarded by, um, er, the nonexistent Prize Committee.
:P

Mine is from an actual Tarot Deck, but it had a rather limited run. One.
The Oxnyx Tarot. 3 of wands is the image on my avatar.

Hey, what happened to guessing???
I suppose Debra's is Nigel Jackson's Fortuna's Wheel's World.
Ok, then. That's four possessives in one sentence.
So, if someone can explain mine, I'll send them a prize.
And if you are particularly specific, I'll sweeten the deal...

Ok, how about this:
If you guess what the prize is, I'll tell you the avatar.
The prize is a little print of an image by One Potato!
That's my guess.

It's a King of Coins, I believe, for a new deck, possibly a collaborative one. The artist is Bill.

And yes, my avatar is from Fortuna's Wheel. This is a lovely 22-card deck. The colors are quite beautifully shaded, the renderings are amusing, the composition is pleasing, and the production values are terrific. Yay.
Also, I look exactly like this in real life.

Almost was used for a king of coins, for a current collaborative that seems sort of nearly forgotten these days.
But that's weather in his hand, not a coin.
It's not from a deck.
And yes, Bill cut the woodblock, half a lifetime ago.
So, you're pretty close to winning.
If you stop now, you get the basic prize.
If you can identify it better, you get the sweet version...
So...?
(Or anyone else...?)

MORE? MORE is required?
Good grief.
Well, perhaps it has something to do with typhoons or hurricanes.
Hint would be nice.

Well, I SAID you can stop here, and take the basic prize,
or go on and try for the extra good version.
It's hard to see that he's surrounded by water, because the bottom is a bit cut off.
You've already said your own hints.

WHOSE midnight, one wonders?
The hour's now come;
The very minute bids thee ope thine ear;
Obey and be attentive.
So of course I listened-- to Papageno! Perhaps...this island-bound fella is from The Tempest?
And although I felt that I should NOT take advantage of this insight:Come, follow. Speak not for him
Papageno told me to Go for It!
The little man on the island, Prospero from The Tempest by Shakespeare.

Hey, if that turns out to be correct, I must admit that I could not have guessed it without debra's groundwork. So in that case, I cede the prize to her.
(And if it's wrong, all three of us can share in the wrongness.)

Yes, Prospero & The Tempest it is!
From a cover designed for an Offset Lithography class project.
Since all three of you collaborated, more or less, I think three prizes should be awarded...
Ahclem, debra, and papageno can all pm me with a mailing address.
This contest is now officially closed!
Thank you to the participants!

Ok, by special request....
The source of my current avatar....
As I said, this was done for an Offset Lithography class at Cooper Union, circa 1983.
I cut & printed the woodblock, then it was shot as a halftone & offset printed as part of a book cover design.

I like everything about it....the gentle way he handles the storm, the black/white balance, the tension between movement and stillness, and the sweet stoutness of the magician himself, with his under-eye circles and his little ankle bones!

I've always been old.
Here's the source. It's a Japanese banner I cut into three pieces and hung from a bamboo pole. Astute viewers will note it is backwards.

[The main artwork is by Susan Woldman from her Relationship Cards]
I was going to post this as my new avatar but didn't want to die from a lightning bolt.
I am however going to be in BIG trouble when New York wakes up.

Wow, isn't that great??!! I also have her Contemplation Cards which is another 54-card deck, created a bit earlier than the Relationship Cards.
I found her artwork very fresh and lively. I bought the decks, and have been using them for 6 weeks or so to draw a daily card by the computer. I find that pulling a single card like that is a good way to connect to a new deck.

You are correct, that is from the Hermit card on the Rocambole Tarot, or what some have referred to as the Mayan Lego Tarot. I really like the geometric tribal energies in this deck.

Lovely Queen of Cups from the Victorian Romantic!
I am currently working on the court cards for that in my visual journal.
The Queen of Wands insisted on the purple paper to go with her dress. And then ALL the Swords said they'd look well with red. As you can see, the Queen of Cups is gazing at the green paper and thinking how WELL she and her companions would look with green--always thinking about others and their emotional well-being.
The Pentacles are Burgundy, they like red earth and lots of wine. I personally feel the Page looks a bit soused, but young men do like to carouse.

:) Well Q, you are right next to my heart...my beloved Victorian Romantic Tarot.
Isn't is lovely? My deck of choice, the deck of my soul.
And yes, that is me, the Queen of Cups, ...always putting others before myself...well, 99% of the time anyway. :P...but that's what mother's do.

The Victorian Romantic is definitely in the top 15 for decks I like. I have so enjoyed working with it.
The colours always seemed nice to me. But more importantly, it brings out memories of my own life. Words, images, it's a nice deck for reconnecting via art and experience in the journals I made for it. I have the plain deck so I made my own journals.
I don't think I've ever done a reading with it--I'm sure you are scandalized, but I bought it for the art connection and the opportunity to do a visual journal with one deck, so that's the way it works well for me.

 Oh soooo scandalous! LOL!
:P Just kidding...I do enough reading with it to make up for anyone elses lost time anyway.
But you are right, it a visually stimulating deck....aesthetically pleasing to the eye and just plain beautiful. ....Don't tell, but I print the cards on plain paper sometimes and color them myself with color pencil....I'm a VR lover, like no other.
