Unfortunately the King of Hearts was missing from my deck. It was cello wrapped and in a plastic box so I assume the error happened at the printer. I've written to Mr. Somerville to see if he can find a King for me so I can have a complete deck. Rats.
This is such an odd deck I had to order it. The length is similar to a regular playing card 94 mm but the width is only 44mm, like a Patience deck. I like the Berlin pattern--quite charming courts.
I see that König of Spades is making a move on the Damen of Hearts, just because her husband has gone missing. Would that the König of Hearts would show up somewhere over in Europe and speed his way to the colonies before all is lost!!

I should have known this was a Flanders and Swann song. I couldn't remember who wrote it--I saw talented actor Vincent Price doing it on TV a few years before his death, and never forgot it.
So, just to clarify lyrics as we wait for our King of Hearts:

This is what I hate about the Internet when looking up lyrics or poetry: without an actual textual reference in hand, one has to go by what's posted, which may or may not be correct, and the incorrect version might proliferate due to rampant copying from one site to another.
Run-on sentences are so annoying!
I have no idea unless it's a poetic contraction for "made up her mind" or the word is missing.
Not to worry, have some Madeira, m'dear.

Quid, I'm sure it's a run-on line (I love them!) - the meaning being understood and neat/clever when you see it after the question mark that raises its head in the brain.
Not to worry, have some Madeira, m'dear.

Yes, it's really clever--you don't see plays on words like that much any more. All that good old humour seems to be dying off.
