Does anyone have any leads how to obtain a deck of the Derakkusu Tarot?
Could only track down the Taiwan edition and it seems to look very different from the original....

I purchased the Derakkusu from Sasuga Japanese Bookstore, at

http://www.sasugabooks.com/product_info.php?products_id=7300

However, it appears they are on back-order at the moment.

Seems to be more a special order  it says it "can be ordered from Japan" and they can usually ship 3 weeks after you place your order.... :ok

This is - I assume - the same manga-art as deals on e-bay, so.....

Yeah this edition is different though... not quite the same like the actual derakkusu ban!

Yes.... from Tarotgarden.
The cards are light creamy though, not as yellow as in the photos, but you should notice the difference.

So basically, one version is on cream colored stock, and the other version on purple stock?

I think there are at least Three versions…

This is the info from Tarotgarden.

Derakkusu ban Hihou Tarot
Designer(s), Artist(s): Mondo Oki
Country of Publication: Japan
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 1999
Publication Status: In Print
Reference: Encyclopedia of Tarot, vol. III, p. 403.

Description:
Exquisite set of 78 cards, with imaginative black-and-white illustrations by the creator of the 'Big Arukana 22' and 'Meditation' tarots. Pips are unillustrated. An earlier edition of the Derakkusu tarot is listed in Kaplan's 'Encyclopedia of Tarot, vol. III,' under the name 'M. Oki and M. Unasaka Tarot.' Book-and-deck set, packaged in purple cardboard shelfbox

I can't seem to find any info (like pix) on the earlier version.

I have both the latest Japanese version (the one in the TG scans that lulukat posted) and the earlier Japanese version referenced in the TG description (originally copyright 1982). The later one is a much nicer production in terms of print quality and card stock. I'll post scans of a few cards from the earlier version when I get home tonight.

Also, from comparing the scans, it appears that the Taiwanese edition not only adds Chinese text to the top of the cards, but the actual images seem to be in a different aspect ratio than that of the Japanese version.

So here's a comparison between the latest Japanese version and the original Japanese version. As you can see, the original is straight black and white, is slightly smaller than the newer edition, and has a different back design. What isn't obvious from the scan is that the original is on thinner, unlaminated stock while the newer edition is on substantially thicker stock with a very glossy surface.

For anyone interested, here is the packaging of the original edition:

The Taiwan one looks like a complete different deck. I wouldn't even think they'd be related if they didn't bear the same name....

I like the original packaging much better though. Oh well.
I had no idea that the one I had is a new edition!
