The point is that some folks want to show or see work in progress and are shy to do it here.

I'm shy - yes - but more to the point, I am NOT posting original stuff where it can be nicked. I'm in the same position with my personal deck. I'm not going to sell mine - but no-one else is going to profit from my work and ideas, either !!!!!

So what I can do - IF people want - is post the cards/progressing work - on flickr for other participants to see.

That is quite separate from how the DECK is produced.

If the software here will allow a secure area of the site where only participants can go and post, we don't even have to think about this.... It has been done on TarotAmerica for sensitive readings.... maybe it can be done here too ? It would be a lot easier; I was just trying to get around what is at present an awkward issue.

And I think that at the last count OnePotato had offered to print the cards, as BlueToy didn't want to because of dodgy postage issues....

I understand now what Gregory is doing.

I think the group has to work out just who is going to act as the coordinator/designer for the cards.

Someone has to be acting as the receiver of the images. I thought that was BlueToy.

Can this be sorted out quite quickly ?

Despite a few mentions of my name in connection with this collaborative deck - please understand I am not acting as the coordinator/designer or even the printer or distributor of the cards.

Yes, I think it can be sorted quickly.  BlueToy has been away from the keyboard, but here's the agenda, as far as I can tell:

1. We individually design cards. The amateurs express anxiety but do it anyway.

2. Some folks may want to post the cards, in progress or finished, on Gregory's flickr site OR on a password-protected area here, if that is possible, Adam. This protects against theft and allows the modest to remain so.

3. We each e-mail the image at a suitable resolution to BlueToy, who will consult with the group and add the titles, numbers, borders, and deal with whatever other layout issues are involved.

4.  BlueToy sends the card image files to OnePotato, who prints them with his nifty printer.

5. We send OnePotato our mailing addresses and a bit of money to help offset his costs of printing and mailing the cards (or the sheets, for those who would prefer that the cards not be cut).

6.  Meanwhile, folks prepare something for the LWB.  I'll start a thread for this, I think, somewhere here, with a simple template of topics to discuss.  I have editing experience so I'll clean up typos and spelling errors. You can have the English of your native land, yes.  I say color, you say colour, we're still friends.  I'll talk to BT and OP and whoever else about what the LWB should look like. It probably won't be more than a sheet or two of paper, but suggestions welcome. This can simply be a document printed by yourselves in with any b & w printer, or I can run some off and mail them, too.

7.  We congratulate ourselves and admire our handiwork.  Good will all around. Someone does a reading.  Someone throws shrimp on the barbie.  Etc.

I mentioned your name only as someone who should have a printed copy, as you deserve one. You will deserve two if you can make a secure area for contributors on here. :) It would be way the easiest.

PS - do we know what resolution BlueToy wants ? I usually go for 300 dpi myself....

I have set up a folder  in which I can place your images.

http://www.tarotcollectors.com/collaborative_deck/

Send them to me at  adam@alchemywebsite.com and I can add your image.

Password protecting the folder seems rather severe. Ultimately other people will get to see the images so why password protect them now ? It is not as if anyone is going to steal and misuse these images. I cannot understand why one needs to hide these from others. Surely this is not some secret tarot for a select few. I don't really understand the need for secrecy.

Anyway if this is of any help please feel free to send your jpg to me and I will put it into the folder

OH for crying out loud.  I was about to e-mail "Justice" when I made the mistake of looking at the "Wheel" card already in the folder.

Anyway, here it is.  It didn't come out anything like I had envisioned.

I've sent Adam a low res version of where I've got to..........

Uh huh. I'm relieved that the eyes are recognizable.

Quarkling is here (hi, Quarkling) and he's about to choose a card to do, too!  That will leave us with only 3 left unclaimed as someone has adopted Temperance....

Sorry, I had put the original image of the Flemish painting  (and reversed it!) by mistake onto

http://www.tarotcollectors.com/collaborative_deck/

rather than my facsimile. I have now put my actual version into the folder, also the correct way round.

Gregory, dollink, it's 1 : 1.5   (BlueToy suggested that ratio so as to leave room for titles in the border if the cards are printed as 3" x 5").

Not to worry....a solution will present itself.

Where IS that Blue Toy when you need one????? :P

...........................................
Edited to add:

It's the interior of the black border that's at 1:1.5 ratio, in my image.

Is it too early to start telling each other how wonderful these look?  Palestrina, Gregory, Adam:  tres bon, wonderful, brilliant, hooray, bravo, whoo-hoo, throw confetti, the game's afoot!

Hello, hello,

I am also interested by the Judgment. But it is perhaps better by another person...
If nobody is interested I make it...

Gregory, I love your card....

Egad folks ....  I hope there are some spare bags for people to put over their heads.  Like me f'instance.  The images so far are extraordinary and I feel like slinking off into a corner and hiding.

Add to that, my sister just sold 2 of her paintings for $1600 each.

The mention of you Adam was more about trying to use the deck (maybe) to provide a donation of funds to help with running this group.  Otherwise, just a small donation to help out.

:fThis emoticon is because I have just spent 20 minutes trying to explain to my son that I can't let him know the back door is locked when I didn't know it was locked myself.

Thank you for thinking of this. However, the costs of running this board, renting the web space and the board software, is really very low. To run the board for a year costs considerably less than I have often spent on a single tarot deck, so it is not a problem for me. I am just pleased that this forum has evolved into a such a worthwhile source of  information and opinion about tarot collecting and the amazing artwork found in modern tarot.

Well, several cards finished, and it looks like we're off to a good start. :)

Does anyone here do calligraphy?
It might be nice to have hand done titles, instead of typeset.....

My (0) position moving right along. Is there a date/deadline in sight?

Will there be a Minor with our Major? I noticed the suit cards are all open. Personally I think the adding of the Minor's may be an introduction to a 'never' ending (or completed) story... just me 2¢

Also, I am planning to approach my friend in Australia Steve Kilbey, to see if he may like to join this little forum and contribute a 'card' for the deck. Steve is an amazing Artist/Musician (The Church, Mimesis, Jack Frost) and might be happy to contribute.

What an interesting moon, Mr.laLuna!  For the past month the tide here (the US pacific coast) has been very, very low--it is wonderful and disturbing at the same time. I related immediately to the imagery of the woman in the water.

I like all the cards so far.  I love the smooth bright evil beauty of Palestrina's devil, the complexity of the imagery in Adam's Wheel, the whimsical curlicue-ness of Papageno's Tower, and the "no kidding, no way out of it, Death"-ness of Gregory's XIII, with the rainbow bridge there for hope....

We missed you.

I think Quarkling was going to take a card, too--he said he sent you an e-mail?

It would be nice if we could have 22 different artists.  Gregory is encouraging Jackdaw, who is moving house and busy but once she's settled.....

How do you like my new hair-do?

Jeepers ... will you guys slow down please.  I'm only at the 'making-really-bad-sketches' stage of card development.  Just remember ... 'The ox is slow, but the earth is patient.'

Okay, so the last sentence is a line out of that crummy movie 'Highroad to China' ... which my Dad likes, so we often watch it .... but the message is there.  I'm a big slow ox ... you guys get to be patient earth (she sighs impatiently:shock:).

Loving the results so far.  And I get the bag Papageno .... so there:P  Your Tower works.  A whole deck by you would work.  Think upon that, my friend.:ok

list edited to add Quarkling for Judgment.

Still having pc problems. urgh. so my time online's very erratic. if it's ok with everyone, i still want to be the project's organizer :).

also, i think onepotato's offer's the best one yet, especially since he has had experience printing fine art (like his own deck). plus there might be problems if i were to do the printing here - someone has to receive it by bulk (and via courier), and send it to everyone else. yes, postal service here sucks big time. :(

i also like the idea of handwritten titles, though my handwriting's like chicken scratch, so... maybe someone else can volunteer?

anyway, great job so far on the cards guys! i'm ebarrassed to say i haven't started colouring mine yet (cuz of said pc problems).

-blue

Edited to add:

only 3 cards left! strenght, hierophant, and the emperor. oh, and the back design's open too. i was thinking, maybe we can also have 1-3 more cards with all our signatures in it? just so each deck we get's "signed" by the artists? :)  like, we scan our signatures, and they'll just be laid out together on 1-3 cards.

I'm not using my real name or signature; papageno will suffice, besides, that's how everybody here knows me. it's more meaningful that way......in my mind, certain people here will always be associated with their online personas and that's part of the charm

and for the sake of discretion, some people may need to keep their private and professional lives distinctly isolated from each other....it should be up to the individual

SO.....if you all take a look at the Members list....you can see who you know already and maybe send them a little PM asking Hey, don't you want to come do art with us?  Can't hurt!

ONE MORE CARD TAKEN!

Demian Brennan-Gould  says--He'll take the Heirophant!

I'm catching him up by pm on all the details of the deck.....

So now it's just the Emperor and Strength left.....

I sent a couple of more pms.

Maybe someone has an idea for a small repeating back design?  Or shall we let the Potato decide that?  Polka dots suit me fine :)

And I love the idea of a signature card or two with whatever name anyone wants to use!

PHILEBUS ALSO SAID YES!

I asked him to post which card he wants here.

So only one left.

I sent Ambriel a pm but I haven't seen her here in a while.

Maybe we can start thinking about the minors  too   :P

I'll have a go at Strength if that's ok.

As regards numbering though.....that can vary for this one - any preference for the system we are using?

Don't put a name or number on the card.

BlueToy will add names (and maybe numbers--we haven't talked about the 8/11 thing yet) on the borders (which he will add, too).

The idea is that the deck will look more unified with a same-style name throughout.

Scroll up to Feb. 7th in this thread and there's a link from Adam where some of the finished cards are posted.

I think they were to be unnumbered....?

OnePotato wanted to use a full bleed back - I'd leave it to the expert to devise one...!

SO.....if you all take a look at the Members list....you can see who you know already and maybe send them a little PM asking Hey, don't you want to come do art with us?  Can't hurt!

Debra invited me and I am thrilled. :)

I'll take Strenght if that's okay. :)
