I like this and particularly the architectural elements. I will probably order this after it is in-stock, as it's pretty fresh in comparison to the abyssmal rehash marketing by other publishers.

I agree though U.S. Games is just as guilty as other publishers for the sort of crap that gets printed sometimes.I like the deck and you can tell that this is something somebody put a lot of time into it.This is the sort of deck I'd buy more then one of as long term I think it has a lot of collectiblity value. Thanks Debra for the thumbs up. The designs for this deck are obviously an integral conception by the artist. This is the kind of work that should be published, rather than tarots that are scripted, designed, passed on to a graphics artist, and then edited by a committee. Those designed by a committee will, I feel sure, for the most part be consigned to the waste bucket of history, indeed, many are risible even today. Congratulations to US Games for having the courage to trust in the work of the artist.

Ok, We finally have a really good name for the various levels of stuff being printed now..."Committee Art" (Said in a very derogatory way)

Or those who "create" decks by using the graphic images of artists whose work has passed out of copyright protection, and do a few months rehash, colour and collage and then speak endlessly about "their" work and how much effort and design skill it takes.
The clip art publishers are as guilty as any company of scripting. Whether a committe of 1, 2 or 20, it's all the same waste bucket of editing.
[Edited to tone down a smidge.]

It's available for preorder at other Amazon countries too, so I pre-ordered it.
I can't remember what the last US Games deck I pre-ordered--might have been the Golden Tarot and the publication date was months out--think they had problems with the gold edges.
I hope this one isn't too far off in publication.
Edited: [I see elsewhere that publication is not expected for a few months, so much for that. I've been noticing lately that card publication seems to be deferred a lot in comparison to book publication--it's getting a bit tiresome.]

But then you wouldn't be YOU. I have that similar feeling when you run up against an artist you feel is more skilled or talented, and you feel defeated, but you can't think like that or your creative spirit will die.
There is "glory enough for all" as I'm fond of saying. Each artist has their own style and niche. Comparisons are irrelevant. You never know, other artists might look at your work and feel they can't measure up to your style.
Truly Mythos, your work has a lively wildness of colour, texture, and composition that is attractive and will suit as many people.
I think you might be going through a general feeling that you'll never get your own cards done, so feel discouraged. Not to fret, okay? Things will come together with steady work and commitment. Focus on what you have accomplished which seems like quite a lot to me.

Thank you Quid. You have said much that is true. I do feel discouraged and am finding it very difficult to scape even moments for my work, due to extra care needs of my elderly parents (my 82 yr old mother is in a coronary care unit at the moment), my intellectually disabled son and his partner, and in supporting my sister whose partner is dying of cancer. The emotional distress added to my own chronic health problems have resulted in a loss of work/creative/soul energy, and general depression.
I also know that unless I am creating, depression pops up to fill the gap. I recently entered a Hanged Man year ... and have yet to truly find my 'new perspective'.... though it is peeking through. The desire to let the mythos tarot go is in part, driven, I suspect, by seeing tarot from a new perspective. I find my mind muttering "... ah ha ... tarot as art ... that is it!".
I suspect that a 'new' tarot ... in light of the idea of 'tarot as art' is actually percolating and will result in a new deck. Maybe the mythos tarot needs, merely, to go on holidays for a while... or maybe I need to get out my canvases and re-examine them in light of this idea.
You cheer me ... it helps ... thank you
mythos:)

Hello friends,
The Deviant Moon tarot is set to be released in January, from what I've been told. Thank you for your comments! USG let me create the deck however I wished and I was totally shocked to find a publisher that didn't meddle with the work itself.
I will be adding more samples to my "Myspace" page very soon...stop by and say hello if you like.:)
PS......Mythos, please continue your work at all costs! Sometimes the misfortunes in life find meaning in ones art. I created the Deviant Moon under the most stressfull times in my life. My sister went insane(slowly but surely) and tried to commit suicide the same week my mother died of cancer...I too, suffered health problems at the time. I could do nothing, yet I found I was able to create.....don't ask me how, it is just something that fights it's way out of you! Best of luck to you, friend.
Best wishes
~Deviant Moon~

I agree. Having had serious problems in the last three years, I found myself reaching toward artwork and creative projects. I was simply compelled.
I am interested in the architectural textures, buildings and tombstones that inspired you, and that you melded into your drawings. I like that this is your own art, effort and work, and that no other art looks like YOU too. ;)

This was a wonderful surprise to hear about this deck and see these mesmerizing and gorgeous images and be told it's being released so soon (tho the release seems to change daily)!
Looks to be a top 5 deck for me in '08, I have it pre-ordered. I'm happy he's not releasing anymore card scans, I want to see this beauty for the 1st time close-up!

Thank you all for your encouragement. I am creating ... just not tarot ... stuck on the Star card.:(
I am confused about pre-ordering. Maybe someone can help me. It looks like one must pay up-front to pre-order. As I have absolutely no money, I am in no position to do this. I will have money in the future of course, but I would like to pre-order now, if that is at all possible. Can anyone clarify this issue?

Hey Mythos
At Amazon when you order something, be it pre-order or otherwise, they don't charge your card until it ships. So you're not really "paying" right when you order.
Hope that helps!

Are we talking Amazon here? My card never gets charged until the item gets shipped. Amazon is also famous for offering fabulous low pre-order prices, then soon before the item is released, uping the price a lot. And your original pre-order price and order disappears too, doesn't even show up on your account page. Shifty!
I get most my decks fromTarot Garden, they don't charge at all. You just pay when the deck is released.

Your rite Amazon doesn't charge you until they ship the item.So far they've honered all the pre-order prices on things that I got and didn't jack them up later...MikeLast edited on Fri Dec 7th, 2007 03:33 am by tantricknite

Thanks .... A bit confusing ... and not knowing what the postage will be to Australia is a slight problem. I guess that I will have to feed the Credit Card beast next pay day and remember that I need to keep a reasonable amount in there.

good.
... obviously some artists are very productive when they are focused...(not me)...you may be one of the unfocused painters too...so UNTAROTing your tarot may help you slip into that mysterious and creative 'no mind,' painterly space...

I don't think that pre-ordering will in any way hasten the publication of this deck. Also because it is a mass market deck, it seems totally unlikely that the initial printing will sell out quickly. It is not as if there are only 100 copies for sale. Nothing is likely to accelerate the publishing schedule for the deck. So I don't think one needs to pre-order unless one is then getting some discounted price. It may even be that those who wait a few months after publication will be able to get a copy at a discounted price. This often happens with new decks, smaller distributors decide to cut their margins and lower the price to get the business.
I find it fascinating how some decks seem to capture the imagination of tarot buyers. People get very enthusiastic for some particular deck, then it sort of totally disappears from discussion in the various tarot forums. I suppose it is the "must have it" syndrome. The anticipation is perhaps more intense than the actual possession of the deck.

Yea, pre-ordering won't make the deck come out faster lol. You can pre-order at Tarot Garden though. Amazon closed the DM for pre-orders months ago. Supposedly it's coming out VERY soon, but he's (creator) been saying that since december. But it was being printed in Italy about 4-5 weeks ago, so maybe June?
I agree too about seeing all this excited, constant talk about a deck pre-publication and than......nothing. If I'm really pumped about a deck, I want to talk even MORE when it is released and I'm working with. But it just seems that for the most part only a couple people want to do that and the masses who raved went *poof* Aquisition versus actual use and study I guess.

I'm new here, but my best wishes with this deck. It looks like a real winner and I would love to add it to my collection. It's fascinating to say the least.
Congratulations!
