I noted on the Aeclectic Forum that Truelighth has worked out that around 75 tarots had been published in the year 2007. If we average out the price to buy each deck at, say £25 to £30 ($50 to $60) including the postal charges, that means one has to spend around £2000 to £2300 ($4000 to $4500) just to keep ones collection up to date !

To be fair, quite a few came in at less than that....
Signed: the one who has finally had to rein in the acquisitive horns....!

Hmm.. I hadn't thought of the financial picture when I made that list. It sure makes me scared to actually look at how much I have spend on tarots this last year!!!
But yes, I agree... keeping the collection up to date does cost a bit. Especially if you want to have all those wonderful self-published and handmade decks too. Then again, the price of the mass-produced decks is a lot lower though.. so that helps

I came to collecting Tarot sometime in 2005.So I find that I've been playing catch up as well as trying to stay current.I've invested around 30,000+ us dollars into tarot since I began collecting. What drives up the cost is acquiring rare OOP tarot. If I had begun collecting Tarot 10 years ago my collection would have cost me about a third of what I have actually spent. So keeping current is key to building long time value into your collection...

It may seem like a lot but it's just like saving money.I spend around a 1000 a month and over the last two and a half years its added up.Most of the decks will retain their worth and others will become more valuable. Many years from now I'll pass my collection on to other interested collectors but in the mean time I get to enjoy the beauty of tarot and have a rewarding hobby. My grandad collected toy trains and had the biggest train set you've ever seen. After he passed away we found out his trains were much sought after and quite valuable.I don't collect trains but I do collect tarot. My tarot collection in my home is like having the Louvre at my finger tips.Tarot art is so diverse and reflects just about every imaginable art style.Think about how many simular Jungian archtypes are reflected artistcly in so many different ways and how all of them can fit in the palm of your hand.........

I am sorry to tell you that I've put more in.... though it has taken me 35 years..... Since 2005, tk - that is IMPRESSIVE. Are you a merchant banker ??? lol....
I do tend to buy when things first come out - but I have in my time bought hand made and very limited ones.... I rarely do so any more....(sob) When my mother dies, perhaps.... I don't buy much ELSE.... you should see my wardrobe....

I am not surprised really, by that number. Especially if you have been playing catch-up. I actually also spend most on catching up. I was new to tarot in 1996, but didn't start collecting until 2000 or so. My total investment right now, over all those years, is about double from what you spend I think. Result 1000+ decks, with some very rare and oop ones. Yes, they do cost quite a bit to aquire!!! Oh, and I don't think it would have saved you much starting 10 years ago.. maybe more like 30 to 40 years ago. Then again, according to Gregory, that also doesn't matter.
