Hey all. I'm looking for some help with an old Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Cards deck made by the Standard Playing Card Co. As you can see in the picture, there's a code at the bottom of the Joker- "K6117." This looks exactly like the code the US Playing Card Co. uses on their cards but normally their's is on the Ace of Spades. From what I've read, USPCC acquired SPCC c.1895 so it wouldn't surprise me to see a USPCC code on a SPCC deck, but what has me baffled is that it's on the Joker. Does anyone know when or if USPCC ever put their codes on the Jokers??

I've attached a chart of the USPCC codes that shows how they're used for dating decks. Every 20 years the letter changes. I don't know what the numbers mean; I think they're relatively meaningless for collectors. If the code on mine is actually a USPCC code, it would have been made in 1907, 28 or 48.

I just checked my deck and it too has the code, in my case H6403.  The tax stamp dates mine to 1919 -1924. The LWB is C. 1903.

I finally got into the World Web Playing Card Museum, they've been out of commission for several days. It says that SPCC was owned by USPCC since 1894 but was operated independently. In one place, along with a card sample, it says the SPCC logo was used until 1930, at which time they merged with the Consolidated-Dougherty Corp.

I feel quite certain that the code in question is a USPCC code that was adopted by SPCC. I don't know of any other code that looks like that, or why SPCC would be using it. From looking at other card samples at the WWPCM, it seems it was common practice for SPCC to put the codes on the Joker.
