Welcome to the TarotCollectors deck. I’m Sherry, the official 'Cat Herder' or organizer for the deck. I have put together a document with basic requirements/suggestions. It is much easier to communicate via email than messenger, so I would like your email address. Just send it over via messenger. Once I get the email address I’ll send the formal deck requirements Thanks, Sherry

I will be checking Facebook more often, so if you are a member there, it's best to check there too.

deadline extended to August 31 st.

Card size and ratio.
See diagram for the actual card size and dimensions. The dashed area is the border which will be done by someone else, your design area is 2 1/2 by 3 3/4 inches. To make the final design look as good as possible, it is always recommended to work at a larger scale. Then when the final design is scaled down at the end, it minimizes any little imperfections. It just looks better. You can work any scale you want, as long as the final ratio is 1:1.5. In other words, 1 inch in the horizontal equals 1 1/2 inch in the vertical. The border is area is completed by me, or someone helping me. We also do the text-card number and title. Having the border and the text the same ties all the various cards into a cohesive deck. If the card doesn’t fit, I have been scaling it into the border. So far this has worked really well. If it distorts the card too much I will let you know.

Card Size:
Imperial Inches = 2.5 x 3.75 in
Metric = 63.5 x 95.25 mm
Pixels = 750 x 1125 at 300dpi

I would prefer the final design you send me to be in jpg format, I can deal with a few others, but if you can convert it to jpg, it will save me from having to convert it. A minimum resolution of 300dpi is requested, higher is better, but 300dpi is minimum.

Can I get the Hanged Man? I guess someone asked for the Magician in the seconds between my seeing it available on FB, and asking on the forum, perhaps twenty at most.

Okey dokey. It may have been taken in the comments section. She was one of the first to request a card over there.

HP and sixes, please.

And I do think forum requests should take precedence over FB (see Quarkling) - it is the TCF deck, after all.

High priestess is gone already.

As for the other, tough. I believe I mentioned I'd be checking FB more often. It is much easier for me. And we do want it to be easier for me, don't we? :-)

Well there you go. It wasn't when I posted :sd So if FB wins out - I'm sorry but this site needs to be updated as soon as a claim is made there.

Judgement - and if that's gone I'll just pass on majors; not worth the hassle.

YES we want it to be easier for you, and you are wonderful to keep doing it, but if FB claims always trump TCF claims...

So here we are - I posted 10 hours ago and haven't been listed yet. And I guess if someone has asked for it on FB today, they will get Judgement....

Did you read it? It says clear as day "cards taken but not reflected on listing- judgement".

If this is too much of a problem we can just cancel the deck. Or if you really want it exactly as you want it, you can take over and manage it.

Nah I'll just do the 6s and forget the majors. (Though why it wasn't on the chart, if you could post it...)

I was listed in the area I mentioned. I am working on the listing now, and I will take it off. There is enough interest now that it will come in handy.

I think changing the chart actually takes more work then just mentioning it. But why don't you do Judgement now, Gregory. It was already reserved for you.

I think the way to solve the problem is the following: look at what time people have posted their request on fb and on the forum. The first one (time wise), gets the card. That way there is no fb takes precedence over tcf.

Thanks truelighth. It does take more time, it's not just a quick update. There is about six steps to get a form that will work on both the forum and facebook.

I used to use the time thing, but in this instance I was still setting up everything and people were selecting cards (and complaining, or commenting). It was just timing.

As for the Judgement card, she said she didn't want it and I've already created a new listing, so there's that.

I was just told it was reserved. If that post had said "you got it..." I'd have realised that. The implication I took from it was it had gone elsewhere. I'll take it IF it's actually available. Otherwise I'll stick with the sixes.

I do know the chart takes more work. I didn't know having it on FB made it even harder - maybe a googledoc is the less stressful way to go for skad ? (the dragon forum finds them most useful for monitoring linages !)

So it wasn't reserved for me - as I thought it wasn't.

So truelighth understood it wrong too - maybe you could put who it's reserved FOR in that top post too ?

No, someone else picked the card after you said you didn't want it, before you decided you wanted it after all. If you weren't so scared of Facebook you could see the timestamp.

That's fair enough. No worries. But it would be worth putting the names in the first post, in case it happens that there are two people asking for a card and its title goes up there and they don't' know which of them got it.

You might find a google doc was less hassle for you to maintain than editing the pdf.

Just for the record, though, I am not AFRAID of Facebook. I do think it is thoroughly noxious and I refuse to engage with it. Please don't attribute thoughts to me that aren't mine. :ce

What I prefer to do, though, is maintain my personal space on line. That is a whole separate issue and not directly FB related.

The world.

The center of the card shows the Nebra sky disk, a bronze disk with astronomic symbols on it from c. 1600 B.C. It contains sort of the first scientific theory in human history, answering the question how the sun manages to disappear behind the western horizon and show up again at the eastern horizon. The idea is that the sun is being put on a boat (depicted at the bottom of the disk) and carried around the outer edge of the world, that was still flat at the time.

The rest of the card was meant to be drawn in the tradition of alchemical symbolism. But that didn't work too well. It ended up as a riddle made from pictograms about various other scientific attempts to make sense of what we observe about the structure of the world as a whole, or, as David Deutsch has put it, the fabric of reality.

Cool stuff again, Ly. I also liked Marcias cards a lot. Is anybody else still here instead of doing facebook only?

Well, whatever, I made a simpler version of my world card. Perferences anybody, of those still looking at TCF?

I am ONLY here, but chose not to post my cards ahead of publication; I sent them to Sherry :cs

Given that some are here and some are there, I didn't see much point in posting them now, as they'll never be all together till they are printed :cl.

trzes - I like the simpler one better, myself. There are some bits on the other that I don't get, and that sort of clutters it for me. If that makes sense.

That does make sense. I also have a text version of the cards with some very brief hints to the meaning of the pictograms. Does that help?

I have more detailed explanations as well, that I am planning to put on a website. A link follows as soon as I managed to put it online.

I actually think that the simplified version simply looks nicer and cleaner, although it loses most of it's message.

Well, sure it's great to see the explanations - but I fear I would want to look at them every time I drew the card.

I do agree about the cluttered look though; it takes away from your rather fine image. How about selecting SOME of the pictograms, which would make it less cluttered but still remind people that science is what makes sense of nonsense ? I was glad to see the identification of Boltzmann, though - I was vaguely aware of him, but hadn't recognised his face !

Agreed, a little less icons might do the job with my image.

Some brief notes about the remaining icons to be added to the LWB bit
- Aristotle and the relativity of up end down: spherical earth
- Galilei and the relativity of positions in space: heliocentric model
- Eiinstein and the relativity of space and time: determinism, matter is energy
- Boltzmann and the relativity of the arrow of time: anthropic bias
- Everett and the relativity of destiny: many worlds

Here is anonther attempt:

MUCH better, I think. Less like the back of an envelope doodling in a cafe, as they say (not to be rude; just - you know how it is when we are FULL of ideas and want to get them ALL out there !) Now each one looks important enough to LOOK at.

You must have been looking straight into my heart :cl

The back of the envelope full of ideas has now got its own web page ( http://reality.spiorad.net/iconsummary.htm ) and the card stays clear. Image and LWB text will soon go to skad1.

trezs, I like them both, but agree the first has alittle tooo much on it. I think it's the sky disk I like seeing on a card.

Updated list on first post. There is a little over a month to go, and there are only 13 cards completed. The cards are not considered complete until the high resolution version is sent to me.

The Devil

The journey of Seven offered by the Devil’s travel agency

I’ll give you a wand promised Pan, use it to succumb to the seven deadly sins or to learn the seven liberal arts. Drink from my cup and you will sail the seven seas to see the seven wonders of the ancient world.  I’ll give you a sword to cut the seven pure notes from the seven colors of the rainbow, on seven continents collect the seven planetary metals, forge them into seven pentacles and use them to buy all of the world or use them to buy back your soul…

First card ready:

The Hierophant

This card is in memory of Chris Asselin. He used the image of a mother with her children for the Hierophant in the Patchwork Tarot. I have always found this a powerful image, as our mothers are the first and most important teachers in our lives. So I have adopted his original image and made it into a black&white drawing.

And another card finished. I was on a roll, so I kept going. Here is the 3 of Swords:

Meaning: Sorrow, pain, feeling hurt. Also a release of pain, awareness of pain. The heart is open, so it can heal.

3 of Wands:

Facing new opportunity. Looking as possibilities. Activation of potential. Foresights, planning.
The decision of where to go has not been made.

Hi Gregory,

Yes, they are totally new. The minors were not illustrated in the Pippa Tarot. They were pip cards. These are illustrated minors, just like I did last year.

I have been making the photographs this last week and edited them yesterday and today.

Also, there are actually some new dolls in there :hp.

That is ok. And you haven't seen them before. But some elements you have, like the church arch on the 3 of pentacles. I have used that before. But then slightly different.

And the Fool is making an appearance again in the 3 of pentacles, same doll and outfit from the original card.

Latest update, two weeks, still many missing.  I usually seem to always extend the deadline, which isn't fait to the people who got their cards in, but oh well.  So deadline extended to August 31 st.

If you don't feel you can make that deadline, or are no longer interested in participating, let me know so I can get someone else to work on your cards.

Hi folks. Sorry I've become a bit of a stranger here, but I just wanted to say I've finished my card for this year's deck :ok
However, I've only got a phone to do the digitizing these days, and if you can believe it, my fancy pants new phone cannot produce a file small enough to upload here!!!
It is up on the FB page though (Sorry Gregory, although I note you choose not to share your card here)
Toodle ooo

I did indeed. Don't worry :) I don't really see the point when we aren't all sharing in the same place - may as well keep it all a surprise !

I could be wrong, but I'm not 100% sure if everyone included in this deck is a member here!

Yeah but that means there's not that much point trying to see the whole - or even most of the deck before it's done, so it may as well be be more of a surprise.

New listing.

Three weeks until new deadline.

I still haven't heard from EricBrookens, Palestrina

For those interested in stats:

No changes to main listing, so I created on with just the missing cards. Remember that you're not done until you send the final high resolution to me. Plus the card info and your bio.
I haven't heard anything from Eric Brookens. How long should I wait? He was going to do the Knight of Wands

I'd reassign the lot if I were you. I would have done earlier. Unless ANYONE there is in the path of Irma - but that's no excuse really - the deadline was ages ago.

So is the Compulsive Collector Card to be a surprise for when we first open our decks?

The latest news is that Sherry is very busy with her mother and Marcia has taken over. She was gonna post this here, but hasn't yet, I see. It will be done, I am sure. Just not sure when.

Yes, all cards are done. It is more a matter of printing and sending out, from what I understand.

I’m pitching in for Sherry to complete the 2017 Tarot Collectors Forum Collaborative Deck while Sherry deals with ongoing family matters. I’m looking now for an official count, mailing address and payment options for our 2017 TCF Collaborative Deck. I estimate a shipping date of about the end of August or beginning of September. Please Email me your name and address (morganmm@aol.com) if you would like a deck no later than Sunday, July 22. I have a list of contributors and if you used your TCF user name, help me out in the Email message with your real name/user name match. Our deck usually runs about $25-$30 including postage but you may be aware that international postage has risen significantly. Because of that, when the printer calls back, I’m going to establish a deck+postage amount to make sure I don’t go broke—and neither do you! 😋

This post will also appear on the Facebook page. Thanks and hang in there!:ok

Thanks, Marcia. You have my details - but when it is all finalised, please let us know WHEN you are mailing, so I know which address to use.

OMG I am SO excited! I’ve just seen the proofs for our TCF deck and I’m convinced it’s the best one yet! I’ll be meeting with the printer later this week to make sure we order the right quantities and you’re paying the lowest price. Usually the time between proof to mailing is about 4 weeks. If you haven’t told me yet, make sure I know whether you want a deck—trust me: YOU WANT A DECK! If you are outside the USA, please know that postage is more money than it used to be. I’ll make sure we can keep that at the best rate possible too. But TCF-ers. Seriously. MAGNIFICENT!

We have heard nothing about this for months; Sherry had serious personal issues, and Marcia was going to print it - even posted that she had seen the proofs in September and was very excited - and then - nothing. I now hear a rumour from a mate on Facebook that we all have to wait while Sherry organises two new decks and then she will revisit this one. This hardly seems fair to all of us who worked on it over two years ago now.

Could we please simply have the digital files to get our decks printed for ourselves ? It's been long enough now.

At what point are we OK pulling our cards and offering them up to other collaboratives ? It has been a Very Long Time, and it could have been sent to a POD printer long ago....

I don't WANT to do his; I want the deck, but...
