I'm not sure if its universal or not...good question.
There are tons of site with the meaning listed...here's one.

I grew up in North Alabama...a very rural, country area and carnations are generally used in flower arrangements placed on caskets and graves....very large arrangements of all different colors...
I've travelled all over the world and never observed this practice anywhere else but in the southeast of the USA.

Everyone's cards are so amazing...I love what folks are doing with Photoshop...I only have the Standard version, which does next to nothing.
Anyway, here is my 7 of Pentacles. Drawn and Colored with magic markers. :)
I thought this poem fit it well because it is a card of reflection and taking pause....

Ok, this card has been ready for weeks. But I couldn't decide which version worked best. They were only minor differences between the versions, but I am just a perfectionist I guess 
Anyway, presenting the 8 of Swords. I have decided to go with the meaning of the card for this one. But then with a new twist.
The 8 of Swords traditionally stands for feeling stuck, trapped, unable to move, not having free will, being a prisoner and feeling a victim.
In my personal life I recently experienced a period where I was feeling that way and it occured to me I was feeling like a living Marionette. Not free to move of my own free will, feeling trapped and feeling very much like a victim. 
Fortunally I don't feel that way right now anymore. But I wanted to convey that feeling in this card.

Truelighth, this image works so well because it is black and white adding to the dimension of the meaning. So strong, quite amazing. I too have been in that place and your drawing certainly reached me.

I am so glad that this worked out the way I wanted to. Like you said, the girl breathers despair and lack of power from every limb. That is what I was going for.
I actually found the picture of the girl on the internet, but of course I couldn't use it. But it clicked so much with what I wanted for this card, I decided to draw her myself. With some alterations of course. And also the 8 strings (corresponding to the 8 of swords). For drawing the hands I had the example of an ad for a puppetteer museum. It was a tiny little picture, but the hands looked so nice and alive on there that I thought they would work well.

Thank you, Arnell. I think a lot of us have been there at some time of our lives. I am glad my image conveys that feeling. It is just what I wanted for it. Especially because if you are in such a place, it feels so very oppressing and you would like the world to know about it.

And also thank you Blue Bubble. The fact that you call the image strong, is all the compliment I needed. It is what I wanted for it. And I think you are right. It is working because of the Black&White. I did consider colouring it. But somehow it seemed wrong. The black & white gives a more grim feeling which belongs with the image.
My alternate version, btw, for anyone who wonders, was also monochrome, but with red&white. I will post that one too, but I think the normal black&white works slightly better:

I am not sure about my Hermit after seeing all the wonderful cards.
To me, the Hermit has always stood for solitute, or the search for solitude, and the desire to just be quiet and learn.
The face is blurrier than on the original. I need ti figure out why.

The Fool Card Description: The Fool stands precariously on the edge of the amethyst mountain. He believes in himself and follows his heart, he will not slip. He gazes down at the new opportunities and challenges below him. He carries with him his worldly possessions and embraces the warmth of the sun on his back. His dog holds on tightly to his velvet coat in attempt to keep him steady on the crystal shelf, he whispers to his master “Be cautious”.
Card Meaning: New beginnings and opportunities but be vigilant look carefully before you leap.

Ok, here's the idea I had for the King of Wands. Originally I was just going to have the single wand on the moon, with earth in the background. Then i thought of the flag that was left up there and got a copy of it and attached it to the wand. Then I realized that we are a multi-national group and some may dislike the American flag on our deck. My first reaction was 'so what', but then I realized I wanted it to be better than that, so I came up with the second card. Originally I was going to have the crown on the earth, but it just looked silly.
Changed the crown to be larger.

The card without the flag is much better IMHO. Not because it was a US flag in particular, though I think you're right about the one nation for multinational group thing - but because it implied an ownership and the King sort of doesn't. If you see what I mean.

Skad, the second card works beautifully - there's something enigmatic about the crown on the wand, a strangeness not present in the now familiar image of the flag on the lunar landscape. Trust the King of Wands to get to the Moon...

She did indeed. I am really slipping here. Well, I guess I DID get a card done, so I wasn't totally goofing off.
Wow, when we started this I really was worried that we would never finish off 78 cards. And now it might be up to 80 cards!!! (remember the title card and the Obsessive Collector And Incidentally Also Happy Squirrel Card) I really love that name, it fits so well.

10 of Wands Description: A woman struggles to carry 10 wands on her back. The wind is fierce and tugs at her while threatening to blow out her vulnerable candle. With determination and grace she keeps to her path and to the goal.
Meaning: A burden soon lifted. A feeling of tremendous pressure to complete the task. The sense of relief and gratification when this job is done will be substantial.

Arnell, love your 10 of Wands, what a beautiful face the woman has. You can feel the movement of the wind against her back and you can feel her struggle to keep the candle alight. Love the background too!
