Anyone who admires the Tarot Moretti (1984)
http://tarotgarden.com/tarot-moretti-carte-a-lusage-des-joueur-de-tarot/
or Tarot de Merlusine (1996)
http://tarotgarden.com/tarot-de-merlusine/

may like this deck of Mandragore playing cards by Raymonde Moretti and Charles Pasino, dating from 1984.
It's interesting to see that the Queen of Diamonds is also called Merlusine, over a decade before the tarot of that name was created.

By the way, let me know if you'd like to see the other court cards and I'll post them.

I love Mr Pasino's work!
All of his decks are fabulous.
He seems to capture the liveliness & charm of the old days, but in his own original style.

I have some loose trial-proof cards from this deck, with what I presume is watercolor color experimentation. (10 of the 12 courts, plus the Mandrake. Red marbled backs.)
And I just recently bought a copy of the full deck, but it hasn't arrived yet.

I'll bet you got the other copy that was in the same sale...
If that's the case, I'll be interested to see how different they are.
(Not sure if one of them was a proof, or if there are color variations within the regular edition.)

Ah, so you were lucky enough to find (and win something at) that auction! I only discovered that site yesterday and saw that there were two decks for sale. Sadly, I was too late and wasn't the other winner. I notice that the Mandragore cards they showed were a different colour cast to mine. I'll take a photo so that you can compare, not that my photography with an iPad is upto much.
The backs of these cards are all plain white.

And here's the Mandragore box. I got mine from a Danish dealer who knew Frank Jensen.

I JUST made it in at the very last moment.
I discovered the sale a day and a half before, and had to wait for registration to clear on both the bidding site & with the auction house.
They approved me for bidding just as the sale started.

A few of the best things did ok, but it was kind of sad to see so many things fail to sell, or sell for so little.
I regret letting a couple of the old decks go, but there wasn't time to request additional photos, and I wasn't comfortable going too high without seeing more than just two or three random sample card images.

I suppose Madragore is pretty rare, at least here in the US, as I've only ever seen the trial proof, and nobody I know has it. (But then EVERYTHING turns up eventually, if you are persistent enough....)

I noticed that there were other Pasino decks for sale, including a very small size one from 1981 ... wish I were less busy and had time to search! Anyway, congratulations on your new treasure and I look forward to hearing /seeing any variants. I see that your deck date is given as 1983, whereas the piece of paper accompanying my deck has a hand-written date of 15.10.1984.

I don't have the Merlusine (though I know you do), but I do have the Tarot Moretti, if you'd like me to post some images.

Ha!
I totally have a weakness for Pasino's cards...

I actually bought that pair of miniature woodcut decks from 1981.
And I also bought the Tarot Moretti, later in the sale.
(I had to hold off bidding on several other things because I was saving the budget to make sure I got it.)

Tarot Moretti has been near the top of my most-wanted list for more than 10 years now.
A while back a guy I know was selling his huge collection, and I tried to buy it off his list, but then he couldn't find it and decided it must have already been sold months earlier.
Then a few years later, I won the bidding on ebay, and paid the bill, only to have the seller refund my payment & tell me they got a better offer and sold it to someone else instead of me.
I recently saw another copy for sale, so I made what I thought was a decent offer, but it was turned down. I've been thinking about going back and just paying their asking, but this one came up and I nabbed it instead.

So thanks for offering to post photos, but I think I can just wait for my package.
(Now I just hope it doesn't get lost in the mail....)

I suspected you probably tried for the other Pasino decks. If I'd seen the auction on time, I wouldn't have been able to resist. If you've time please post a few images from the 1981 deck. I'd be fascinated to see how they look. Also the Aluette deck you have in your collection ... I've never even heard of that!

In the obsessive search for 'stuff', I found online an ex-libris created by Charles Pasino for Raymonde Moretti and was interested to see that it's the same motif that appears on the card of Lancelot in the Mandragore deck (see the first set of images above).
