Just got the new Vieville Majors deck from Editions LeTarot and was pleasantly surprised to see TWO versions of the cards included. It may say that on the site, but my French, how do you say, sucks?

There has always been a suspicion that the extant copies were made from blocks that had been inadvertently reversed. And so Editions Letarot printed one direct and one reversed copy.

The reversed copy has also been re-ordered to the standard Marseille order.

I've scanned samples of cards from both sets along side the Heron photo reproduction.

Hard to argue with right-reading text on the reversed image though as on Temperance (Sol Fama).

I believe this deck was begun by Jean-Claude Flornoy and completed by Roxanne who has taken on the business.

Nice to see the tradition continue.

Hello all,

I am not a specialist of this deck prefering tarot of marseille type I and II patterns (more II than I to be honnest).
But... what about colors on Le mat/Fol hat beeing green and not yellow if I see Héron facsimile ?
same for some places on other cards.

This "blue" sound seems violet for me... should I consult for my exes or everybody agree with this ?

I dreams to see this original in BnF Museum and take also his exact measures.

Another project on my booknote when I'll be back in Paris.

Best from marseille

In regard to the original size of Viéville's cards Yves, over on AT Roxanne had this to say-

"The original Viéville, measured from the inner edge of the varying frame line, measures between 127-130 mm high by 69-70 mm wide. Ours is slightly smaller. The Heron is very very much smaller - a facsimile must be changed in size if the editor doesn't want to pay rights to the BN. Saves alot on paper, too."

Roxanne has posted the images she ordered from the Bibliotheque Nationale on their website.

This is what they used as the source for their Vieville restoration as opposed to the Heron edition. I think you can see where the original publisher had intended the additional greenish color on many of the cards. It does not quite come through on the Heron, but you can see it on the images directly from the BN more clearly.
