How much do you think that a mint deck of the Knapp Hall Tarot (US Games reprint) is really worth now?

Well, the old cliche' is: "It's worth what somebody will pay for it." 
But if ebay auction history is an indicator--we're talking about the orange box, right? It has generally sold for roughly between $50 and $100, averaging in the low $70's.

I paid $20.00 for my copy (shrink-wrapped deck w/ booklet, box shopworn at the corners) in September 2009. I had been passing over more expensive copies, so I was happy to find this one. I think the deck should be reprinted. It has a lot of appeal. I especially like all the slapped on symbols "which are to be experienced rather than interpreted."

I wish I would have bought one of these back when I mailed for a PRS catalog many moons ago.
I had no idea they would go out of print.

Sorry. Don't book that Caribbean cruise ! I meant the original 1929 edition.
Even the second edition of 1934 issued by the PRS must be valuable.
Most of the copies one sees were those printed by US Games under license from the PRS.

I hadn't heard about the 1934 version. I lucked into an old version with a 1929 copyright a year or so ago and assumed there was just the one original edition. Can you tell me what the differences between the 1929 and the 1934 are?

As far as I know the deck was initially published in 1929 for the artist J. Augustus Knapp. He had worked with Manly Palmer Hall on a series of paintings for The Secret Teachings of All Ages: An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy, which was published in 1928. The tarot seems to have arisen during that collaboration.
As a result of the response to Hall's big book he formed the Philosophical Research Society in 1934. This then published the cards. Not having seen these, I am not sure if the PRS took over unsold stock of the first edition and reissued them, or reprinted copies for their edition.
Does anyone have copies of both of these editions to compare them ?

For comparison, here's the one I found. You probably cannot read the copyright notice on the box which says 1929. I'll try a closer scan of that. Of course, as we all know, the copyright date does not necessarily mean that was the year this particular copy was published!
The blue slipcase box has a linen texture and an oriental-looking painting on the back which I will upload separately.

Back of slipcase box and a booklet I found on ABE Books with a 1930 copyright. Don't miss the swastika border ornament on the cover of the booklet! Of course, in 1930 the swastika was still just an ancient mystical symbol and had not acquired its later horrendous associations.

This past January, Amazon listed the USG reprint for $11.70 as a new item that did not yet have an estimated delivery date. But then a month later they canceled it "due to a lack of availability from our suppliers."
I assumed USG was planning to reprint it but then perhaps they held off after they found a few old copies they hadn't yet auctioned off on eBay.

What I've seen at WH Smith and elsewhere are unpurged old listings that give the impression that the item is still in print and available. But this Amazon listing seemed like a new listing with a new price. I found it by sorting tarot titles by publication date--newest first.

Does the slipcase have that same "Revised New Art" label Debra deciphered above? That's interesting. I hadn't noticed that before and it sure suggests an earlier version, does it not?
Then again, I believe Knapp was a commercial illustrator in his day job. Maybe they had already picked up the marketing trick of the "New Improved Forumula!" even on brand new products back then?

Of course I suppose "Revised New Art" might have been referring to a new design as opposed to those fuddy duddy cards from Waite & Smith which had been published 20 years earlier in 1910. And here we were in 1929, the modern world, with a new look! The cat's pajamas, he might have said.

Counterintuitively--make the image smaller and it's easier to read. (Put cursor on screen, press control and "-" for smaller, or "+" for larger)

Hello everyone,
I've been searching literally the whole Internet to find the whole Knapp Hall Tarot deck (just images or scan). I will write a master degree paper soon about the Tarot symbolism and its cultutal aspects and reception, and I really need at least scans or images of this deck. Does anyone of you know where can i find it (good quality)? Or maybe anyone of you have some pictures of this and could share with me for my work?
