1) Minotarot by Eric Provoost - I haven't got a hope in hell of buying/affording this as it's been OOP for a long time, but I love the art and I like the way you can lay the cards out in a frieze, similar to the new Grail Tarot.
Anyone who owns it have comments or pros and cons on the artwork or theme? I'm keen on it, but I suppose it is quite costly? I consider anything over $50 to be too costly.
2) Maddonni Tarot by Silvia Maddonni - I have her Chinese Horoscope deck and very much like her artwork. I see Tarot Garden has the tarot for $30, but I've only seen two pip cards in reviews: the Ace Swords, and the 5 of Pents.
Do the pips have the same suit illustration on each numbered card? I am assuming so but can someone say definitely please?

Yes, the same suit illustration for each numbered card in a suit.

It is a rather delightful deck.

Thanks Ahclem. I think it's not for me after this further information on the pips. I'm short of space too, so I have to be more selective. Plus I have her Chinese Horoscope work which is fabulous too. I love her style.

The Minotarot was one of my most expensive tarots, after Michael's Tarot and acouple we won't discuss. I may have paid more than I should have, but It is an interesting deck. I haven't seen it on auction since then, I may have to check out your link, just to see what they have.
If you like the cards becoming a big picture, you may like Peter Woods 'The Picture pack'. It's regular deck of cards (not tarot) with his famous bears.

As long as we're talking about non-tarot cards that form continuous panoramas, I can't help but recommend Kahn/Selesnick's quite amazing Eisbergfreistadt Spielkarte.

Ahclem, thanks! Nontarot but fascinating. Cost: $10 plus postage, which in the US is $3. I clicked "yes, send it to me!" without thinking twice--it's so wonderfully odd. With global climate change, floating iceberg problems are likely to increase. At least I'll have the right deck for solitaire.

Whew, someone else is talking. I was getting kind of embarrassed zooming over 70 posts so quickly.
Thanks Skad, I like Pete Woods' work--would like to buy his 2,000 pips and the Wild! deck because they are semi-transformation. I have a tiny collection of transformation playing cards--another sub-genre I greatly enjoy.
I had the Eisbergfreistadt on order--mentioned it back on AT before they banned me--but as usual no one listens to me! It takes a big gun like Ahclem to get people's attention <g> Glad collectors bought it.
I get much more excited about playing cards lately, maybe because the ideas and art are so much fresher in comparison to the current vibe in tarot?

However, if you want something relatively affordable (but about as far away from Minotarot as you could imagine) by Eric Provoost, go to Somerville and search for "erost." It's a quite bizarre erotic transformation deck. Viewer discretion advised. Seriously.

They could be ones I got ripped off on. Like a genuine antique wood tarot, found at an old ladies' estate sale. No telling how old, but seems to be very old. And when I got them the varnish was still sticky! There were three auctioned off on Ebay, Jennette at Tarot Garden got one, and some other poor sucker. Jennette says she takes hers to trade shows to use as an example of 'buyer beware'. Oh well, a chance to learn.....
The Eisbergfreistadt had to come to me too. Neat deck. I try to stay away from regular playing cards, not because I don't like them, but because I could become over-whelmed! But this one was a no-brainer.
I agree--:shock: the "erost." was quite a :shock:. At least it's not just female, as a female I do get tired of some decks with nudity for nudities sake.

oy. it happened to me, as well. I went, I saw, I purchased. I have never seen a picture deck before, and that one really caught my fancy. I thought twice, but only just- I purchased the deck well within an hour of having seen the site. I love waiting for little packages in the mail. :)

Out of my league financially (I meant it when I said $50 was my top price.) Boy, I really like that artwork and the way the cards are set up--different, excitingly so.
That auction is by an AT member I think. Funny how these decks go around.
You know what I just noticed? The colours in the Minotarot are reminiscent of the Ironwing. They would go well together. Can you imagine an Ironwing card as a clarifying card with the Minotarot or vice versa?
Wonderful possibilities there.

Back when I ordered mine (back in July), he was in the process of moving to Ireland and all the decks were packed and in shipment. Mine did, in fact, finally arrive from Ireland.

The Eisbergfreistadt Spielkarte arrived right after we posted this exchange.
Postage from Ireland to the US was 3.35 euro; he charged $3 US, so didn't cover the postage cost and the cost of packaging.
Terrific production values, a very clever box with info on the tuck-in flaps--I'm in love with it.

I knew there another, I just couldn't remember it! (ok, old age settling in early) It's called Pry's Circus and it forms into a circus scene. I've seen it acouple places but Intercol London seems to have it the cheapest. They have it in deck form and un-cut sheets.

Just to bring this back to tarot (sort of), I'd point out that the "Pry" of Pry's Circus is none other than Charles Pry of Diableries Tarot and Les Simulachres de la Mort fame. He was apparently a prolific creator of hand-made limited edition decks of all sorts.

i am drawn to the Maddonni Tarot's look. it's on my wishlist, though the akron had to be prioritized for this xmas' wave of purchases. for some weird reason, the art also reminds me of... The Little Prince - both in terms of the book's art and, well, the general feel of the story.

I think these are the ones created by Endré Rousseaux and sold through Enchanted Oak, who have their own web site but also sell stuff on Ebay. I have a three of their decks. I don't have the same negative view on these that some others have. They are priced at around $120 but often discounted in special offers. These are hand made items with the image stuck onto nice thick plywood and then varnished. They come in large wooden box with another image stuck on top. These must take quite a few hours work to make, so I think the $120 price totally justified. They will never sell many of these and will probably give up producing them as soon as sales drop off, so I suspect they will be quite collectable. They are certainly unusual. I will buy some of the others when I see them sold at a discount on a buy-it-now on Ebay.

Yes, these are the decks, and the current ones are going for around 120. BUT the original ones were not listed as being created recently. They were hyped are really old, and well used and alot of other untruths. I think they go alot of flack after the first three, and decided to come clean.

Well, I'll have asecond copy that I'll be willing to part with someday, when Mom's gone and I inherit her cards!
It's a very cool deck, IMHO - I love the whole concept. I picked up my copy on Ebay several years ago for around $400, before I knew Mom had a copy that she'd ordered for$20 years ago when they were first issued!
