Why was there ill-feeling? I don't remember much about last year's deck, except that instructions not to clutter up the thread had an awfully dampening effect on me to the extent that I got out of the habit of posting much here at all.

I think also that doing two decks last year took the edge off things.

Just my thoughts...  :kt

So sorry to hear that there was negativity concerning the last deck.  I didn't know or understand what others were going through to make it happen even though I appreciated the work they did.  What can we do to make it better?  This is a great forum with great people so maybe we need to step back and see what all of us can do to change this around!

I agree about the 2 deck thing.  It was pushing it too far.  But I really wanted to see if we could do it, and I knew it'd never fly for the regular deck.

So, is it me?  should I let others take care of this, would that help?:kt

No it's not you. The only person ever to cause GENUINE offence was me, don't forget.

And the second deck we just did worked out just fine - it was weird and special and I loved it ! I think people are jaded over all forums. Every last one I am on - which includes two totally not tarot forums - is very muted right now....

No skad, it's definitely not you - without you there probably wouldn't be any decks at all. And gregory's right about forums methinks.

I made two conceptual designs for the chariot, and I am not sure which one will fit better to the deck

Nice cards ! I LIKE the second better - but I think the first fits a collaborative deck better. If that makes sense....

What does the Hebrew mean ? (If this is something very obvious that I should have known - sorry; I am in a hurry on my way to a plane !)

In both cards is the hebrew letter zayin, the seventh letter associated with the chariot.

In the first card are additional urim and thumim diviniation-stones.

Sorry for refering to wikipedia but my English isn't good enough to explain in own words:

urim and thumim at wikipedia

Sounds good to me.

That leaves the title card, unless someone would do the Happy Designer and I'll do the title card.

I think I like the first strength best.  I am not sure I understand the second one.  It looks like a mudslide over a river and water farm, how close am I?

It’s not strength but chariot.

I admit, the second one is a bit abstract.

In the lower left corner is the classical image according to Eliphas Levi. Now place yourself inside the chariot and look outside, while the two “horses” go in different directions and twist and dilate space and time.

Oh I recognise the image from Levi - and I like the abstractness; it is just that that very aspect of it - the abstractness - sets it apart from the other cards we've seen so far, and that might mean the deck hung together less well ?

I absolutely bonded with the first card because a gazillion years ago I spent two summers on a kibbutz in Israel when I was a teenager and everyday I watched the combines in the fields.  What a clever idea for the chariot!

I like Mr. la-luna s Hierophant. The silver lines look like the outline of a face interacting with the wooden fetish-figure in the background.

I would like to know from which culture the fetish is...

Another trial for the Wheel:

Could also be anything in between (color from the one, shapes from the other, but different sizes, etc)

Opinions?

I would prefer the colors from your second wheel of fortunes.  But I also like the little white figures (dragon etc) around the wheel in the first version. Maybe a combination of the two versions ..?

Thanks for the comment! I'll give it a try to include the figures from the first into the second one, but will definitely leave out the text (wouldn't make sense anyway without moon and sky colors).

As for your alternative takes on the chariot I like the first one a tad better. Your second justice is really creepy but I like it a lot. The first justice is a bit too abstract for me to understand.

Wow guys, these are some really great cards!

If it helps decide which version of a card to do, pop a temp version on the border (see page 1 of thread)  I poped really, really low res images on the border, but you can see how they'd look as a finished card better.

Skad - maybe I'll have to remove the Celtic border from Judgement - I'd forgotten that the borders of the deck were not just plain (which would have been OK), but as it is now the slightly uneven white edges will show. I'll send you an amended version...

okey

I put the low res on the border and it does look kinda funky.  I like the celtic boder but it is probably too much with the other border.

BUT it is an idea for the 2013 border :hp

I just plop the tests of the cards on the border, so it is no where near as nice as what the final will be.  The resolutiion is really low, and I haven't taken the time to ezctly fit the card of the border.

Hi skad - thanks for this - it never occurred to me to actually try it.

The card is much better than I thought it would be with the border, in spite of the fact that the uneven white edges are visible, and I do like the Celtic reference - he is a Druid, after all, even if he hasn't a long white beard. Perhaps I'll have a play around and see if I can make them more even.

Not sure about 2013 - it's not that I mind, but it would make the deck Celtic, and others might.

I actually prefer the Judgement with the celtic border. It somehow resonated more with me. Even with the extra border. I feel like the one without the celtic border is missing something. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Btw, I have been working on my card. I have two test versions, low resolution that are very different from eachother. Not sure yet which one to go with.

Skad1, I see that Marcia signed up to do the Empress. Which is just fine and I am sure she will get it done.
But just in case something goes wrong, I wanted to let you know I have an extra (very different) Empress left over from last year that could be used.

Thanks for the input, all - I'm working on evening up the border as I feel something is missing without it too.

Trzes - I like the purple background - it has the effect of knocking it back further so that the figures show up more and gives an otherworldly feel. Suppose you tried it with the red wheel - maybe the gold it a little too contrasty.

And/or perhaps try making the wheel completely opaque - there's a lot of translucency going on at the moment with the figures not being solid as well.

Another one preferring the Celtic border.

Gotta finish Strength.

As to 2013 - ummmmmm... not sure, given this one !

I evened up the border as much as possible and sent the new file off to Skad. I'm glad all who've answered so far prefer the border - I think he looks a bit exposed without it.

Not really sure about 2013 either - maybe we should have a rest for a year...

Thanks for pointing out the contrasts. Now that you mention it, I also think the yellow is a bit too much. If the purple version should make it, then I will mute the saturation down a bit. I tried the red wheel with purple background which didn't look too good for me.

I tried an opaque wheel as well, also with opaque figures which all works fine, but in a rather different way. I wouldn't want to make the wheel opaque in the end, since I would loose the effect of the wheel also being genuine part of the background.

I did say you would have to be desperate for another from me...

(ETA I hate all of them I posted so far and am starting over kinda.)

ETA some more. OK - is this any good (needs smoothing in places, I realise...)

I wish someone else would do it....

Well personally I like both the girl and the lion but I'm not so enamored of them floating against a backdrop of someone's front yard.

That's a huge park in Bruges actually :cl

I had used it in the first place as it was behind the first (and indeed second !) girl I posted earlier - who was photographed there - but OK - THAT's easily fixed. One moment...

Thank you for answering, by the way.
