Hi All

I have the deck, and was going to use it. But looking at the LWB, the meanings of the many cards are totally different from so called "Traditional RWS or Thoth meanings".

Is it because it is TdM family deck? I am not sure if there is such things as TdM meanings, because I used to use numerology based interpretation on TdM pip cards before.

But this deck, Bachus Tarot deck's meaning seem totally different from any other meanigs I have seen, and wondered where it is coming from.

Anyone owning it? Or using it? Would appreciate comment. cheers.

Sorry maybe this topic should go to "Looking for Info" sub forum. Could you please move to that board if possible? Thanks.

I have this deck, and read it like any other TdM, which is to say, I take my cues directly from the cards while embellishing here and there with numerology, suit and symbol, etc. The meanings in the lwb are interesting, but I wouldn't feel the need to stick to them, by any means.

Thanks for your reply. I had been using it like that before too. But recently I took it out to use it again, and looked at the LWB, and the 5 of Stave meaning in it says "The luck is on your way." So I thought it was totally opposite to the traditional meaning of this card, so was wondering where the meanings of the LWB come from. Would it be some sort of historical esoteric schools? - such as Levi, Papus? Or some other source? Just wondered :)

Yeah, I'd guess that the meanings are pulled from an early cartomancer like Etteila or Levi. I'm not versed at all in their systems, but I believe that especially in regards to the pips, the meanings in the book are probably derived from Etteila, as his meanings I believe read along the lines of a fortune teller, or predictive style. These pre-Golden Dawn meanings look very different to the RWS meanings to my eye, but in many cases serve the same function.
