     When I finished examining these figures and I had grasped their
secret qualities, I learned to read what was contained in the volume that
Hermes held in his hand. I saw there the description of two men, one of
which only thought of the goods of this world and its joys; while the
other had a concern only for virtue, wisdom, for peace and good, in
accordance with the principles of the revealed religion. Each of them
believed themselves to be on the right path. One was called Thatha men
El-Hokama (he bowed before the philosophers); he was the virtuous
