These examples I friendly desire all those who practice this false science
of Alchemy to take as gentle admonitions. And let us again return unto
the very true science named the work of natural philosophy

But I pray you Master Charnock if the science of Alchemy be not true,
by what means did Thomas Daulton made a thousand £ of fine gold in
half a day, for his Master Delves?

He did try and melt all his works which he had made long beforehand, in
half a day, and then it was pure gold, for before it was but a brittle
sulphurous earth, which few men would esteem to bear it away, no more
than they would an ounce of clay.

There was one Sir Ramon Lully Knight of the kingdom of Spain, who for
his great wisdom in this science was named the wise Ramon and he was
also in Edward the IV days unto whom he did write a book of this
science named Compendium Animae. Who made by mastery for a priest
to this art, in the city of Catalonia seven images, whereof three were like
ladies and of silver bright. And four of gold and each shaped like a
knight. And when he was for age nigh dead he made hereof aurum
potable for the prolonging of his natural life, as Sir George Ripley
beareth witness, which renewed his age and lived many years after.
