all the virtues, properties, and natures, the which God made in them, and
that within three hours.
Now I have shown you a sovereign secret, how that you may with
our heaven drawn out every quinta essentia from all things aforesaid.
Therefore all necessary things to every syrup put in our quintessence, and
within three hours that water shall be such a syrup. Understand well,
better by an hundred parts by cause of our quintessence than it should be
without it. And so I say of medicines comfortatives, digestives, laxatives,
restrictives, and all others. For this reason, if you put seeds or flowers,
fruits, leaves, spices, cold, hot, sweet, sour, moist, do they good or evil,
into our quintessence, forsooth such quintessence you should have
therefore. Our quintessence is the instrument of all virtues of things
transmutable if they be put in it, increasing an hundred fold their
workings.
